This image was a single 34 minute 8 second exposure, which is the maximum exposure length for the CFV-50c sensor. The relative motion between the Earth and the rest of the galaxy produces an apparent rotation of the stars about the South Celestial Pole. I composed the shot such that this pole would be adjacent to the top of the Great Cross. This was a good choice as it produced a strong connection between the Great Cross and the star trails, the two main elements of the photograph.

Photography notes ...

The photographs were taken using the following hardware configuration ...

(Year of manufacture indicated in braces where known.)

- Hasselblad 501CM Body (Chrome) - S/N 10SH26953 (2002).

- Hasselblad CFV-50c Digital Back for Hasselblad V mount camera.

- Hasselblad Focusing Screen for the CFV-50c digital back, with focussing prism and crop markings.

- Hasselblad 45 Degree Viewfinder PME-45 42297 (2001).

- Hasselblad Carl Zeiss fisheye lens - F-Distagon 3.5/30 CF T* (1996).

- Really Right Stuff (RRS) TFC-14 Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod - MFR # 13996.

- Really Right Stuff (RRS) BH-30 Ball Head with Mini Screw-Knob Clamp - MFR # BH-30 PRO.

- Hasselblad HATQCH (3043326) Tripod Quick Coupling.

- Arca-Swiss ARUCP38 Universal Camera Plate 3/8”.

- Nikon AR-3 Shutter Release Cable.

- Artisan & Artist ACAM-302 Silk Cord for Hassleblad Cameras (Black).

To minimise the incidence of vibrations, I employed the following strategies :

a. Use of a sturdy tripod.

b. Pre-exposure mirror lock-up.

c. A mechanical shutter release cable.

I acquired the photograph (8272 x 6200 pixels) with an ISO of 100, exposure time of 34 minutes 8 seconds, and aperture of f/11.0.

Post-processing ...

Finder - Removed the CF card from the camera digital back and placed it in a Lexar 25-in-1 USB card reader. Then used Finder on my MacBook Air to download the raw image files (3FR extension) from the card.

Lightroom - Imported the 3FR image.

Lightroom - Exported the images as a 16-bit TIFF file.

Pixelmator - Used the repair tool to attenuate some distracting fetaures from the margins of the image.

Pixelmator - Output the result as a TIFF file.

Lightroom - Imported the TIFF image.

Lightroom - Used the Map module to add the location details to the EXIF header.

Lightroom - Applied various basic lighting and color adjustments in the Develop module to optimize the lighting of the sky region.

Lightroom - Saved the Develop module settings as a preset.

Lightroom - Output the image as a JPEG image using the “Maximum” quality option (8272 x 6200 pixels).

PhotoSync - Copied the JPEG file to my iPad Mini for any final processing, review, enjoyment, and posting to social media.

I-generated images of the Israel-Palestine conflict being sold on Adobe Stock !

_____________________________________________PdF__

As fears rise over fake imagery generated by artificial intelligence flooding the internet, one of the world’s leading stock photo websites is openly selling AI images of the Israel-Hamas war !

A quick search on Adobe Stock for “Israel-Palestine conflict” brings up dozens of AI-generated images purporting to show the Middle East conflict; in fact, the overwhelming majority of results are AI.

Adobe announced that it is accepting AI-generated submissions from generators such as Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion last year and are unique in that they are the only major stock photo website to have such a policy.

In June, a report from Stock Performer suggested that AI images are outperforming real photos on Adobe Stock.

The analytic website for stock photographers found that the average revenue per image per month for AI images is a whopping four and a half times bigger than photos or any other format ...

Created in Pixelmator and Photo Lab apps. Horse photo taken with my iPhone.

A view I always loved to take in while in Banff. I decided to stand in the center of the street on the island and look up towards up towards Cascade Mountain. There was some construction work so there is a big sky crane right in the middle of the image, but I used Pixelmator to cloned it out. I later used Analog Efex Pro 2 for the final image with an older, faded effect.

A quick snapshot.

Rosh Hashanna is coming in about a month. Miss Cecily has begun practicing blowing the Shofar.

It is very difficult to get long steady sustained sound from a ram's horn trumpet. Miss Cecily has mastered the art. It is intense and very dramatic!!

This is what I wanted to get when I set up to shoot the Aurora Borealis on October 10th.

I have shot star trails, night skies, and Perseids at this location and regretted not capturing the May Auroras here when I had the chance.

I did use a photo, shot during blue hour, to mask in and give the building a little more presence and definition. I likely shot that at about f8 with a shutter long enough to provide some exposure in the shadows. I used Pixelmator Pro to do this.

When masking the photos, I noticed that the camera moved a fraction and everything was just slightly off. I needed to move my base (sunset light) photos over a few pixels to line things up and offer better clarity to the details of the building. This is the first time that my camera has moved when shooting in one spot for a long period of time. I am PRETTY sure I didn't bump it but, with changing settings a few times through the evening, I might very well have altered the camera a smidgeon.

LES VENTES D'APPAREILS PHOTO SANS MIROIR SONT TOMBÉES D'UNE FALAISE ET N'ONT TOUJOURS PAS TOUCHÉ LE FOND … 74 % EN AVRIL !

MIRRORLESS CAMERA SALES HAVE FALLEN OFF A CLIFF, AND STILL HAVEN’T HIT BOTTOM … 74 % IN APRIL !

BCN Retail has published its April report of camera sales figures in Japan and, as expected, the huge slump in sales continues apace. In March, BCN data revealed a 50% drop compared to 2019; as the pandemic continues to exert a severe economic toll, April numbers show an even greater dip !

Geheimnisse

Silhouette meiner Tochter mit etwas "Zeichnung", also kein Scherenschnitt.

My daughter's silhouette with 'character', not a true silhouette. The capture itself was processed using Silver Efex Pro 2 and 'locked down' using Pixelmator... :))

Jour 190

Last night, in my dream, I'm sitting across the desk of a colleague. As we talk, I realize that today he is wearing a shirt identical to one of mines. I mention that it's good that I'm not wearing the same shirt today.

To honour my dream, I took several pictures of this shirt with the ReeFlex Pro Camera app and the ReeFlex Telephoto 2x and Wide Angle lenses. I blended and edited them in Pixelmator Pro.
