Collaboration between two artists over several years, mutual influence and parallel creative processes. This exhibition presents works united by the signifier of mountains, which refers to another signifier.
It is part of the structure of a metaphor - what can be called a "cold face".
* Nom-du-père (Name of the Father) - is a concept that Jacques Lacan developed in his “Psychoses” seminar to illuminate the role of the father in the Symbolic Order.

Another one scanned in from the negatives of a trip to Colorado years ago. I actually remember this really well. This was taken on a cheap little camera with no zoom basically. We were literally probably 5-10 feet away. It was cool because they would just wonder aroudn as if noone was there.
I thought about cropping this down a little to take out the van but decided to kep it just to show how close they were. Plus it would have got kind of pixelized.
Stand alone kiosk. The PixIt game was developed by University of Texas to teach kids about pixelization.
"Artisans" is a free-hand digital print utilizing the Appleworks program.
While the results are kind of "raw", I enjoy the "pixelization" so characteristic of these digital prints.
The procedure I followed in making this print is much the same as the approach I use in developing a painting.
On the way to Charlie's school for the Cinco de Mayo fiesta, we passed this beautiful stand of irises. I'll have to remember that my viewfinder doesn't show the whole photograph -- I thought I'd composed the picture without the mailbox bits at the left, but it crept in. On the other hand, shooting at this angle kept the background the way I wanted it -- the damp, reflective road surface (it had been drizzling all afternoon... what, drizzle in Portland?), rather than the cars, lawns and houses across the street. And it has my I'm-a-sucker-for-it diagonal line from upper left to lower right, provided here by the curb.
One of the things I like best about this picture: I knew the cellphone would pixelize the colors in these irises, so I intentionally planned it as a sort of French Impressionist shot. And sure enough, the closer blossoms look as though they were daubed on canvas by a student of Monet.
So that's my photographic exercise for the week -- start learning to see things the way they'll turn out in the photo, and use that to your advantage.
Sorry for hte pixelization. Res was quite small. Flickr enlarges it unfortunately

Digitized, pixelized, & artified with Adobe Photoshop & its plugin Pixelbender. Then inversed in photoshop.
I took this shot in I-15 (read middle of the desert) back in December and just gave it a Kodachrome-look and a little fixing with the noise. The camera's sensor sucks so the sky is pixelized when I upped the contrast and saturation.

I had to reduce some of the moon's light to get the blackness to appear this way... The eges are abit pixelized because I couldn't use my Tele Lense (I used my Standard one >_<)
Note to self:

It would be very hard for me to use the Williamsport subway to get to work everyday. This girl supports my life in many important ways.
Did you know that by owning an automobile you are automatically ranked in the top 5% wealthiest people in the WORLD? Be thankful in everything you have, so often we fail to see how lucky we are to be who, what where and when we are.
I didn't like my expression, and felt like being creative so I played with gimp's pixalize function....

This means more than one thing to me.
First is a play on the concept of pixelize, ingesting the image. Another is ensigns and how we measure people based on tags more than our own trust. Another is flags and the universal human.

After we finally made our way into Mt. Rainier National Park in April 2013, darkness was impending. In trying to get a few final shots at high ISO, I ended up with a lot of pixelization in the dark areas of the shot.
When I have a shot where I am not satisfied with the quality, I like to play with Photoshop filters and see what I can do to help "hide the blemishes". I've shared all four versions - neon glow, normal, dark strokes and poster edges.
Cycling my way up downtown on Main last night I spied these three bike-shaped bikeracks on the sidewalk in front of the Caltrans headquarters and putting my cam on blur mode paused to pixelize them for posterity.

Faces have been pixelized to protect people's privacy when viewing at larger sizes. Otherwise, the picture is unaltered.
It's a tad more pixelized than normal since I zoomed in so much, but I'm extremely pleased with the detail of the craters. The glow is from the clouds.
