I foolishly became the victim of a phishing scam late last night and I am now going to have to continue dealing with it.

Kevin shared his Lumix G1 at the Phish show we went to at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday night, because of course Merriweather like everywhere else is under the impression that cameras with detachable lenses need to be kept out, even for an act like Phish.
I hadn't listened to Phish in probably five years, and I hadn't seen them since 2003. There was a solid decade before then that I listened to little else, though, and I was happy that I could still enjoy the night and the music and the people. With last night's show, I've officially lost track of how many times I've seen them.

Phish is an American rock band that formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and a dedicated fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the primary lead vocalist. A wider view of the bar in yesterday evening's post. The Phish Cafe bar is situated on the Laem Mae Phim beach on Thailand's east cost in Rayong province. The decor is teak wood and the cafe is a class apart from the other beach bars and restaurants.
Classy, with excellent service, it is not an expensive place, and the food is good. If you're in Rayong, check this out.

Today I fell for a phishing scam. :( A friend of mine sends me a link via Yahoo IM asking me to check out some geocities link. I click on it, and I get a Yahoo 360 sign-in page. "Strange that you'd need to sign in to see a geocities page, but Yahoo does own geocities, and I haven't been there in a while," I think.
So I put in my username/password and just get a Yahoo 360 homepage. Weird. I IM my friend to ask what the deal is, but he doesn't reply. I'm in the middle of working, so I quickly get distracted by other duties and don't think about it much.
A while later, I get a reply from my friend, along the lines of, "Huh?" Turns out he never sent me the link! "Crap!" I think. "I'm a doofus! I just fell for a phishing scam!" My friend had gotten the same link from one of HIS friends, and so I bet the bad guys have a program that recorded his password when he typed it into that bogus page, then logged in to his Yahoo IM account and spammed it to everyone on his buddy list.
It's quite insidious, because you're tempted to trust links your friends send you, and because this doesn't require any spyware on your computer; it's all done over the web.
So again, people, don't be an idiot like me. Think twice before putting your password in a page that asks for it!
Oh, and needless to say, I immediately reported the page to Yahoo (and it's been taken down now), changed my Yahoo password, and then changed the password in the various other places I use that same password, just in case. I also emailed everyone in my Yahoo IM buddy list to warn them, just in case my account sent them the bogus URL, too. Pain in the ass.

Today I received a very official looking email reporting to be from the “DMCA Compliance Team”. The message had been sent as a Flickr message from “gck6vwnkzi” flickr account. The message did not state which image was supposedly in violation of copyright but did contain a link to download a PDF. I did some investigation and found that this had a high probability of being a Phishing Scam.
If you receive this type of message “do not download” the PDF. I sent a message back to the sender stating that I do not open unsolicited links from strangers and to send me a flickr link to the image in question. I have not had a response.
