Yesterday morning's golden sunrise with Peak Bloom Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC

One more Cherry Blossom photo from Wednesday's sunrise. I took this one during blue hour, on my way to the location where I took the Jefferson Memorial photo posted yesterday. Before walking around this curve, I noticed the sky looked good and it was a nice comp with this tree. In addition (and maybe most importantly) no photographers had their tripods setup in the shot! Score! While I had to work around different people walking through, I was able to capture a few clear frames before moving on.

On more note: I focused on the Jefferson Memorial this year because renovations are now complete! The exterior (especially the roof) looks great again!

The area around the MLK Memorial is stunning during peak bloom at the tidal basin in Washington, DC.

(exif of 135mm is incorrect. it is 58mm)

Yesterday was peak bloom for the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin in Washingon, DC. It was a beautiful day!

The 135mm in the exif is incorrect. I forgot to set the focal length when I put the manual lens on the camera. It is really 58mm.

Yesterday morning's peak bloom cherry blossoms in very still air at the Tidal Basin (5:37am). They can be stunning in the dark as well!

I arrived early and, when I realized that there was no wind and few photographers, I started moving around to capture some shots that are only possible when the wind is calm. I took this near Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. Even though it was still dark, the reflection looked great.

With all the blossoms blooming, it's as though one is walking amongst clouds! The cherry blossoms were in "peak bloom" on this rainy Wednesday along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. Despite the dreary day, drenched shoes, and soaked-through socks, it was well worth it!

It definitely looks like peak bloom this weekend in DC.

Most of the cherry trees were at or near peak bloom when we were at the Arboretum on our volunteer day last Tuesday, so here are some cherry blossom images. After this, back to posting images from the archives. :-)

One more photo from the cherry blossom festival as peak bloom's winding down - a little more traditional this time.

It may have sounded like I hated it when I posted the first picture, but the tidal basin really is beautiful during peak.

Shot handheld with 3 exposures (-2..0..+2 EV). HDR processed through Photomatix, tonemapped with detail enhanced. In Photoshop, Shadow/Highlights and Curve Adjustment for details, colors, and contrast. Hue/Saturation to increase overall saturation. Unsharp Mask.

It was Mother's Day and we decided to go find us some flowers to shoot. We ended up in Schreiner's Iris Gardens in Brooks Oregon. Many irises were blooming but most were not. However, there were other flowers in bloom, like columbine, allium, wisteria, lupine, etc. I will put up more flower pictures taken at the iris garden along with some bearded irises.

Just when I thought I have seen most of the beauty that could be seen from around the Tidal Basin, Mother Nature threw me another curb ball that had me staring, staring in disbelief how beautiful she had became overnight. Blossoms are known to peak, fall and be blown away in high wind, or come down in a downpour to become a puddle of mush, but this morning was quite different. She definitely saved her best for the last as each petal was laid out with a soft touch and filled the ground like winter snow. Yes, I fall for her every time and the only memories I have left are images of her past.

Washington Monument poking around behind some cherry blossoms along the tidal basin. A cold winter snap delayed the peak bloom for about 4 days and many of the trees had yet to begin to pop. You can see the budding stages on this particular tree. I'll be posting more of these in the future.

Sunday morning blue hour peak bloom cherry blossoms - before the rain & wind! Unfortunately, I understand that many blooms are now down because of the rain and wind we had on Monday.

Love this view of the Washington Monument when the blooms look great. I've taken this composition a few times in past years. This is the clearest reflection of the monument I've managed.

I was going nuts with the ducks and the blossoms and all the changing reflections in the water moving up and down, kept nudging the guy next to me saying "Duck! Duck!" Good thing the spoke no English or he woulda thought I was crazy. :-)

Taken during peak bloom on 3/30/21

This was taken at dawn on Apri 1, 2010. The sun was just starting to peek over the tidal basin and light up the sky.

This is a seven-shot raw HDR. I compressed the files into one, and used the tone mapping feature. HDR is still very new to me, but I like trying new things. :) Reminds me of a painted postcard.

This gal really knew how to strike a pose, and could not have asked for a more magnificent backdrop. Washington DC, at the Tidal Basin near the FDR memorial, 4/6/19. +5 days peak bloom and the trees still looked fabulous.
