Todos en el Parc Güell y momento vandalico...

Notables los arcos.

After napping in a completely dark room for an hour or so and a cold shower, I headed back to my next ticketed attraction, Parc Guell. This is a large meandering park with features designed by Antonio Gaudi, the great Spanish architect who also designed Sagrada Familia. It was supposed to be a housing development, but it never took off, and Guell, the developer, eventually gave it all to the city of Barcelona.

It was in the mid-90s this day, I had already had a strenuous experience at Sagrada Familia, so you can imagine my dismay when I turned the corner and saw that I would have to ascend a mountain to get to this park.

But as you can see from a few of these pictures, the place is full of unusual details! I think I would have appreciated it more if it hadn't been so very very hot.

My mother and I got lost trying to get to Parc Guell, and came around the back way. I should have looked at the map, but I was tired, and my mother saw a sign, and we followed it. And got lost. We were hot and hungry. At one point, my mom stormed off, throwing her guidebook -- with the only map she had -- in a trash can. I have no recollection of what I did to anger her. I briefly contemplated letting her go. But she didn't have a map. So I fetched the guidebook from the trash and made nice. Sort of.

In the foreground is a curved, mosaic covered bench at Parc Guell. Behind tht can be seen a spire from one of the 'gingerbread houses' at one of the entrances to the park.
