Tesla, maker of high-end electrified automobiles, based in California, is going through a bit of a tough patch at present (October 2018). But for the past ten years, the company's fortunes have only ever looked up.
Some of this was smoke and mirrors - the company is worth more than the Ford Motor Company, despite never having made a profit. The rollout of engineered products though, shows that real progress has been made in creating an electric vehicle consumer product that the customer was willing to pay considerable amounts of money to own.
There was, of course, the original Tesla Roadster (a much modified Lotus), but the real product that catapulted the company to prominence was the Model S, launched in 2012, and now in its sixth year.
The Model S is now the best-selling luxury car in the US.
The car is large, nearly 5.0 m long (196 in), with a long wheelbase, allowing for the package of the large battery. For context, the battery makes up 800 kg or so of the vehicle's 2,250 kg weight. The lightest model S weighed in at 1,961 kg, the P60, with a 60 kw.h battery pack, and reduced range.
Incidentally, the number in the model description represents the battery storage capacity. The largest battery providing energy to the P100D - 100 kW.h, yielding a driving range of approximately 500 km.
The Tesla S has been on my list of vehicle to model for quite a while now, but was a request from Instagram's back2brick, as a custom build, as my 500th Instagram follower.
The Tesla Model S also meets LUGNuts' 104th Build Challenge theme, - "The Science of it All", - for vehicles with science-based names.

The Tesla Model X is a full-sized, all-electric, luxury, crossover SUV made by Tesla, Inc. that uses falcon wing doors for access to the second and third row seats. The prototype was unveiled at Tesla’s design studios in Hawthorne on February 9, 2012. The Model X has an official EPA rated 237–295 mi (381–475 km) range and the combined fuel economy equivalent and energy consumption for the AWD P90D was rated at 89 mpg-e (23 kWh/100 km or 39 kWh/100 mi).
The Model X was developed from the full-sized sedan platform of the Tesla Model S. The Model X has an EPA Size Class as an SUV,[ and shares about 60 percent of its content with the Model S and weighs about 10 percent more, both are being produced at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. First deliveries of the Model X began in September 2015. As of December 2016, global deliveries totaled more than 25,000 units, and after one full year on the market, the Model X ranked seventh among the world's best-selling plug-in cars.

It's almost certainly me not paying attention, but I've been convinced recently that the earlier Teslas have disappeared from the roads. I know they've only become really popular in recent years, and I'm now sick of the sight of them - but seeing this one today made me wonder when I'd last seen one that looked exactly like this. Even now I think this is a good looking car, but the situation now with the founder of this company really makes me want to switch off to whole concept of them.

JenniferQ - I've just had the same front suspension failure - a cracked Fore Link - on my 13,000 mile P90D so I'm adding my experience here for others because, as you point out, this failure looks like it could cause a serious accident.
While at the mall, I noticed a clunking sound at slow speed when going over small bumps, so I stayed off the expressway and slowly drove home on local roads.
After arriving home, I backed up while turning the wheels to right and the car abruptly stopped as the back of the right front wheel jammed solid against the inside wheel well lining.
The right front wheel was an inch or two back from where it should be. I looked under from the front and saw the cracked Fore Link:
Tesla took it to Dania Beach, FL via flat bed and its now being worked on.
