Hey, what is this? We have to tear it out to be able to get to the foundation of the house and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth saving, how many years' worth of growth this was, etc. It makes a nice green wall, but also we're sort of overworked and I don't want to expend a lot of energy on something very common and fast-growing.

Here you can see it when the clematis was blooming: flic.kr/p/28cZGK8

Happy week everybody!!!!!

Still working on the diagram... but very slowly... overworking again... :-))))

On Saturdays, we wing it. The baked potato was a nice touch, though. (That's "jacket potato" for many of you , yet another translation I've needed to learn. My father in law insisted on asking for one in every restaurant we went to, thus flustering already overworked teenagers..)

Ah start-of-term, it's always good to get out of the office during this time to avoid getting overworked.

Server issues at the office today. Had a tech guy come in to lend a hand. At 11PM I gave up. He said we needed to stay and finish and that it would take about 16 more hours. I don't get paid well enough to be that dedicated to my job.

As office cats, Silver and Mary, don't believe in overworking.

Most of my pictures of Mary involve her snuggled up with Silver Storm.

This is me. Just an average day. I keep telling myself 5 o'clock will come. It is inevitable.

OverWork(8-19-01)

'Ah! Hang on a second, just noticed something about, "Beware the Guardians of the Chest"...'

I totally overworked the day for night in that last shot.

For the past year, I've barely picked up my camera. It almost seems like I forgot the sound of the shutter snapping. I was both lazy and overworked at the same time. But when my camera got stolen two weeks ago at a Greyhound station something changed. I realized empty I felt without my camera and how much I took it for granted.

For the past year, all my D300s did was collect dust. However, that changes today.

I'm back from Vancouver for the summer, I replaced my old camera, and my photography trip starts today. I will take and upload at least one photo a day.

Expect it, look for it, it'll be here. No more collecting dust. Here's number 1 :)

Ah start-of-term, it's always good to get out of the office during this time to avoid getting overworked.

This was a star of David from a factory worker. The A represented the fact that this person was a slave of the factory, and although he worked without wages and many colleagues died from being overworked, this probably also saved him from being taken to a concentration camp (because he was a slave belonging to the factory). The owner did end up living (although it wasn't an easy story) and his son donated this to the museum.

October 24 2016: Parents, students, and teachers are tired of having no decision making power in their own school district. So it was a packed house at the Legler Library on Chicago’s West Side

for a strategy meeting to plan how to get a bill for an Elected Representative School Board through the Illinois Legislature.

Chicago is the only place in Illinois that does not have an elected school board. Since the school board in Chicago is selected by the Mayor, that is sometimes called mayoral control. But that is really a misnomer. Mayor Emanuel represents the wealthy financial and corporate interests who dominate politics in the city and the state. Mayoral control is really corporate control.

Corporate control has brought us mismanagement and financial scandal. It has brought us high stakes testing and poorly conceived curricula. It has meant school closings, privatization, teacher overwork, and and general demoralization throughout the system. That is is why Chicago voters have voted for an elected school board in two non-binding referenda.

The Chicago school population is made up overwhelmingly of Black, Latino and other youth of color, many them living in poverty. The failures of corporate control are profoundly racist and insult to the people of the city.

Excess information. Difficult situation, problems. Anxiety, stress, depression, loss of cortrol. Woman clasped head in hands. Throbbing splitting headache. Overwork, work too hard

For FGR: Death to...

The Tsushima-class Frigate is a holdover from before the formation of the Nipponi Empire. While cutting-edge in its time, now its only redeeming quality is the large number of them in reserve. Originally classified as a heavy destroyer, modern systems have so outclassed it as to justify a reclassification.

While its heavy laser cannons are powerful, they are very slow to recharge, unreliable and due to using antique liquid-chemical reaction chambers are unfortunately prone to unplanned rapid kinetic self-dissasemblies. Plans to upgrade the Tsushimas' systems were scrapped by the Imperial Naval Board when it was recognised that the cost would be more than it took to buy newer Flechette-class destroyers.

Tsushimas are best known for being cheap, aging vessels, usually falling apart from poor maintenance and using antiquated systems well past their shelf life, barely kept running by the sweat and desperate prayers (not to mention curses) of their harassed and overworked engineers.

Thankfully, Tsushima frigates are quite rare nowadays, mostly due to the Imperial-Consortium war of 2305. When the Harpes Consortium laid siege to Arthur IV in order to secure preferential trade taxes, the Emperor angrily demanded that the Imperial Fleet respond with maximum force. The Imperial Council tried to reason that Arthur IV was poor, minor colony, and that the siege was undoubtedly costing the Harpes Consortium far too much to sustain for long, but it was overruled by the Throne.

Being commited to military action, the Council decided to kill two birds with one stone. The rusting fleet of Tsushima-class frigates had long been an enormous drain on the Imperial coffers. Forced by the Emperor into sending a naval task force, the size and composition of said task force was left to the Council's discretion.

Every single Tsushima, no matter its state of disrepair or how understaffed, was assembled into the 2nd Imperial Squadron. Put under the command of the eccentric but competent Admiral Rodensky to give the appearance that the Council were ardent suppporters of the Emperor's decision, the fleet was sent to the far edges of Imperial space to relieve Arthur IV.

The journey to the besieged planet was an ordeal all in itself. With his ancient fleet frequently breaking down and his consripted sailors showing poor discipline, Adm. Rodensky was infuriated at the poor judgment of his superiors. No less than a dozen Tsushimas were deemed "totally irrepairable" by the Admiral and launched into the nearby suns, their crews parceled out among the fleet to alleviate manpower shortages.

Despite the various breakdowns, mutinies, diseases, training accidents and supply problems, the 2nd squadron nonetheless made it to Arthur IV, where it suffered one of the most crushing, one-sided defeats in galactic history.

The huge fleet of over two hundred vessels was virtually annihilated by the Harpes Consortium ships. Only a small number (including the Admiral's) managed to escape. They inflicted negligible casualties among the corporate vessels, and, it goas without saying, totally failed in their goal to lift the siege. Ironically, the Harpes Consortium gave up their claims soon after the battle, being unable to sustain the cost of the siege.

The legacy of the Tsushima-class frigate is tragic indeed.

"I would be better off instructing them each to ram the enemy... but I doubt they would be capable even of that!" -- Admiral Rodensky, on seeing his new command of the 2nd Squadron.

i'm exhausted and losing apetite... this is porridge i made as bento, but i felt somewhat dizzy and fell down from stairs this morning - and finally decided to take a half-day off from the office. it's (relatively) okay to drop & lose my wallet or the room key, but i don't dare drop myself from more dangerous place and lose my life :( i've been working really hard for the event on sunday. it's a few more days to go, anyway!

Charcoal on paper I struggled with this one and ended up overworking it all! The nose was of particular difficulty to me-not sure why, but oh well some days are easier than others. Anna is so beautiful, and I hope she is ok with this one.

The Russian Chapel at Vršič (Slovenian: Ruska kapela na Vršiču) is a Russian Orthodox chapel located on the high Vršič pass in northwestern Slovenia. It was built by Russian prisoners of war engaged in forced labor in the area during World War I.

In early 1915, the small town of Kranjska Gora was suddenly rendered strategically important by its proximity to the Isonzo Front. In order to ease access to the front, the Austro-Hungarian authorities ordered the construction of a military road across Vršič, a 1611 m pass between the Sava and Soča river valleys, to be built by Russian POWs.

The road was begun in May 1915, and was completed by the end of the year. To ensure an uninterrupted supply of materiel to the front lines, the pass was to be kept traversable year-round, and the POWs were made to clear the road of heavy snowfall. On 8 or 12 March 1916 (sources vary), an avalanche of snow buried a POW work camp, killing approximately 300 prisoners and about 10 guards. Exact casualty figures were never determined, either for the victims of the avalanche of for those of the brutal overwork and appalling conditions.

The Russian camp was located roughly halfway up the slope of Vršic. Between 1916 - 1917, the remaining prisoners built a small wooden memorial chapel. The building is of typical Russian design, with two small towers on either side of the nave, and is surrounded by prisoners' graves and a pyramid-shaped memorial marker.

The chapel was renovated in 2005, at a cost of 90,000 €, and serves as both a war memorial and a symbolic link between Slovenia and Russia. The pass road was renamed to Ruska cesta ("Russian Road") in July 2006.

the air conditioner waited

with him but there’s at least a part

of me that wishes I

fortitude

as he

did.

sleep waged its nightly war

with me and won a clear

as the warm air wafted

in and out of a fan

only circulating it

and not quite cooling

anything down, I tossed

and I turned and I

stared at the ceiling

for what must have

been entire

centuries

inside,

territories became countries

and countries became empires

the great rise and fall of

civilization kept in step

with the inflation and

deflation of my lungs

ribcage and

spirit.

the morning alarm was the first bomb

and humidity was the second

third, and fourth; I got my coffee,

picked up my check, paid my bills,

and was left penniless, overheated,

and destitute all over again

just another turn around

the sun, just another

stroll against the

times, it’s part of

the gig, part of

the grind, parts

of parts of parts

of parts

I look down at my hands and they

suddenly resemble my father’s

only less steady and

reliable

he did this same grind and

continues it to this day

and he has never once

felt the urge to put pen

to paper to bitch about it

and yet here i am,

doing that

because i could

once again

afford to pay

my bills on

time.

that’s our biggest difference;

he works because he believes

it is what a man does

there is no shade of gray

no looming shadow like

a harbinger of rough fate

you do it because

you’re supposed to do it

and that’s it.

I envy that mentality

because i work, not

out of desire or because

i was mandated by the

gods to waste my

precious

time

I do it because

at some point

I became everything

I once rallied

against;

Not having plays

second fiddle to

working on

nothing.

it’s all part of the grind

parts of parts

of parts of

A man feeling as if he is chained to his computer doing a job with no future

(A continuing photo story about a raft trip down the Yampa River many years ago.)

Failed Feminist Cowers On a River Bank:

River rafts carry high quality ice chests to provide abundant fresh food. But on this big trip after a delicious dinner I noticed something.

Hot water was provided in a couple of buckets and people were invited to wash their own personal utensils. Standard practice. Except that the cook crew, perhaps overworked, was allowing those buckets of hot water to cool.

I told my three kids to NEVER use those cold soupy buckets. They were to wipe out their cups and spoons and go to the river to rinse them.

Sure enough, on the third day of the trip, more than 60 people were wan and miserable with “24 hour stomach flu.”

A delegation of several very authoritative men, all MDs, caught me sitting on the river bank. They stared down at me sternly, only a little wanly, asking why the Williams family didn’t get sick.

I’ve cooked on more than one guided wilderness hike or horse pack trip. I wanted to talk to the kitchen crew, not rat them out. So I shrugged and cowered to show my humility. And I mumbled something vague. The Important Men accepted my response immediately. You couldn’t expect more from a woman.

I’m ashamed to confess this, but remember it was 55 years ago.

This one was done with Graphitints on 140 pound hot press paper. It's the first time I've used them and it was very difficult for me. I'm not used to having the graphite shine . Also, I found it hard to control and it seemed that I got fewer values. Kate, I think my branches look kind of wimpy, and the brown leaves at the top got muddy. Overworked? Orange-crowned Warbler (Oreothlypis celata)

Rithet's Bog,Saanich, BC

This little warbler had a nice earwig to feed to her baby, and baby was waiting for it. But the baby "warbler" that got fed the bug was almost twice the size of its "mother": a Cowbird! This poor overworked warbler had been tricked into raising a a bird from an egg she did not lay. Cowbirds lay their eggs in other bird's nests, and don't seem to care about differences in size. They also sometimes push the host bird's eggs out of the nest, leaving her with only the Cowbird egg to hatch. Why the warbler didn't figure out that the Cowbird could not possibly be her baby is a mystery. She fed it several bugs in the half-hour I watched them. What I am wondering now is, does the Cowbird think it is a warbler? If so, how will it find a mate?
