The orchid seems to mimic a bird's head with spread wings and raised tail. Macro lens with natural lighting. Selective contrast enhancement with Perfect Effects.
The conservatory keeps small orchids (less than 6 inches or 15.25cm) behind glass and I had not noticed the display when I entered the orchid room. What a treat, though, when I did!
Seen at the Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh, PA. Macro shot. Taken with FujiFilm FinePix S8200.
Best seen in a larger size on dark background (click image above).
This orchid had a very unusual central vase like protrusion in white and burgundy that was split at the top towards the end, and had a lower triangular lip that stuck out. Very interesting that this part of the flower was white and burgundy, while the outer petals were yellowish green with burgundy highlights.
This is one of a series of photographs that I have now organized as an Orchids set.
