The beautiful Phalaenopsis (Moth) Orchid "Surf Song," shot in February, 2019 at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, New York.

Photo taken in the Biltmore Estate Conservatory, Asheville, North Carolina.

I wanted to show light emanating from the orchid (as I feel it emanates from all forms in Nature). I used color inversion and black and white to point in that direction.

A cluster of lovely Phalaenopsis (Moth) Orchids, shot by my talented wife during the 2015 Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, New York.

I made this macro photo of an orchids during a visit to the Conservatory of Flowers in March 2021. Until the pandemic erupted a year before,Melody and I had regularly visited the Victorian Greenhouse in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Hi all, just popping in to wish you a wonderful weekend...stay safe...stay happy!

Sometimes one-word is all you need. I love orchids and their many faces 8-)

of an orchid in Bunnings the other day. No flash used, I was trying to be inconspicious as I'm not sure about their policy regarding people photographing the flowers for sale!

A macro shot of the center of a common Dendrobium orchid. I have had this plant for several years now but I always thought of it's color as just a beautiful dark red. Just shows the infinite care God takes with all he does.

White Phalaeonopsis orchid - natural light /fill flash. Focus stacked using zerene stacker.

This orchid was caught in a tornado lol

What do you think of this?...I love it...it's crazy...

I hope this will inspire some of you to try some craziness lol

*see if you can pick out a particular shape in this pic

A bad joke, I know, but I just couldn't resist!

An Orchid of the genus Disa (Unnamed Hybrid), shot at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. This genus is from the cooler habitats of South Africa, and has some 144 species.

Welcome spring!!!

Today was THE most beautiful day you could imagine, to welcome spring ...perfect weather!!!

I had a great day...it started with my usual Thursday trip to the mall to take Mum shopping...while she goes off and does her thing, I go have breakfast...today I took a book along...usually I'll sit and write poetry...

Once I took Mum home and helped her unpack her shopping, I then went for a long walk on the beach...no camera...no mobile phone...I wasn't even going to look for rocks...but then it happened lol....I found a heart rock and the rest is history!

I'll post a photo of my beach treasures another day lol...

Wishing you all a day/night as magical as I had!!!

Hi there

Today I felt in a bit of an artistic~creative~crazy mood!

Maybe it was because I looked after the littlies and they did some drawings, plus they always make me feel great...or maybe because I always need to try new things when it comes to photography and art!

This is certainly new for me, I haven't done this effect before and I quite liked it!

For those of you who like the normal...go view pic # 2 below...for those who like a bit of crazy (like me, go view pic #1 below...and for those who have time, view them all and tell me which one you like best!

Thank you in anticipation

Nat :)

I really should have just clipped the one on the right with insect damage. Got the lighting set up pretty well on this photo.

EDIT: Clipped it, took a new picture:

Stlma. Kelly = (Brassavola nodosa x Cattleytonia Keith Roth), where Ctna. Keith Roth = (Cattleya bicolor x Broughtonia sanguinea)

So Stellamizutaara Kelly 'Lea' is

%50 Brassavola nodosa

%25 Cattleya bicolor

%25 Broughtonia sanguinea

It's a nice plant, and a nice nodosa hybrid! By the way, if anyone has or can find a picture of a Stlma. Kelly that is NOT the 'Lea' clone, I'd love a link!

These beautiful orchids were on show at the shopping mall today, there was such a variety and they were all beautiful in their own way...I loved the colour and details of this one! :)

Once I got in close with the macro lens, I discovered that the stigma and the underside of the column were surprisingly luminous. I guess the light must come through the back of the flower, but be blocked by the dark color on the top of the column, making the bottom, along with the female reproductive organ, seem to shine.

Nice little species; a rather distant Cattleya relative.

Flowers are around .3cm N.S.

A complex white. If I'm not mistaken, this breeding program is mostly made up of the species used in 'bulldog' Paph breeding (Paphiopedilum section Paphiopedilum) and includes some of the white section Brachypetalum species way back in the ancestry.

This clone of P. Rosy Dawn seems less peachy (rosey?) than most, and more white. Plus little hairs, nice little purple dots, and the egg-yolk-yellow staminode.

I sure wish someone would register this cross. Cute little thing on a very small attractive plant.

View at large or original size to see all the hairs and spots in the throat.
