66181 is near the end of its 5 mile climb at 1:40 as it approaches the opencast disposal point at Cwmbargoed, at the head of the Taff Bargoed Valley with an empty train from Margam.
Cwmbargoed is one of two locations still generating coal traffic by rail in South Wales in 2021. A nominally daily train ships metallurgical coal to Tata at Port Talbot, and a weekly train of coal is delivered to the cement works at Hope in Derbyshire.

Soaring bridge is a unique viewing platform in the form of the Latin letter "V", located in the park "Zaryadye" in the very center of Moscow.
The bridge it is called only nominally, in fact it is a horseshoe-shaped console flight, making an arc over the Moskvoretskaya embankment and the water of the Moscow River. The total length of the observation platform reaches almost 245 meters, while it rests only on two supports located almost at the base of the bridge, and the length of the outreach of the console part is 70 meters. Towering 15 meters above the level of the Moskva River, the bridge seems to float above it - that's why it was called "Soaring"..A view of the Raushskaya embankment is one of the most important sights of Moscow. Here is the famous 5-star hotel Baltschug. You can also see the first power plant of Moscow MOGES - 1, built in 1896 and still in force. From the remarkable buildings of the embankment you can also note the head office MOSENERGO, the former hotel Khrulevoy, the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and other buildings from the 18-19th centuries of construction.

Limenitis arthemis, the red-spotted purple or white admiral, is a North American butterfly species in the cosmopolitan genus Limenitis. It has been studied for its evolution of mimicry, and for the several stable hybrid wing patterns within this nominal species; it is one of the most dramatic examples of hybridization between non-mimetic and mimetic populations.
The Shugborough estate was owned by the Bishops of Lichfield until the dissolution of the monasteries around 1540.
The estate was immediately leased to Staffordshire County Council in 1966, who managed and maintained it on behalf of the National Trust, with Lord Lichfield retaining an apartment in the hall until his death in 2005, paying a nominal rent to the new owners. His successor, the 6th Earl, decided to relinquish the lease of the apartments, thus severing the family's direct links with the estate.
In 2016 Staffordshire County Council handed the estate back to the National Trust, with 49 years remaining on its lease
Each of these photographs today have a nominal subject far away. They need to be enlarged to see. But more importantly it highlights my philosophy that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Alluvial plain along the Sekigawa river is fertile albeit heavy snowfall in winter, and had been the seat of a political power. Uesugi clan was originally a governor dispatched by a Shogun in Kyoto but became increasingly nominal and autonomous. Local hero of Jou'etsu city is Uesugi Kenshin (上杉謙信), a warlord in 16th century who was a formidable rival of Tokugawa Ieyasu who later became the ruler of Japan. His headquarters was located in Kasugayama (春日山), which is not far from Takada Castle.
Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康) subjugated the Uesugi clan finally in early 17th century, and sent his son to rule the area that used to be Uesugi's. Takada Castle had been the headquarters for ruling the area that had a tradition to be autonomous from the central government.
Takada Castle did not have a Tenshukaku (天守閣 castle keep or donjon) unlike many castles in Japan. The structure in the photo is a recent reconstruction of Sanjuu Yagura (三重櫓), a three-story watch tower. Takada Castle had been completely dismantled after the Meiji Restoration in 19th century, and no original architecture remains today except for the large scale moats and mounds.

The Iberian wolf is a subspecies of wolf endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. Its phylogenetic proximity with other populations of European wolf has led many zoologists outside the Iberian Peninsula to include it within the nominal subspecies C. l. lupus.
Limenitis arthemis can be split into two major groups, mainly based on one physical characteristic: the presence of a white band along the wings. Individuals of the northern group, called white admirals, have a conspicuous white band that traverse both the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the wing, while those of the southern group, called red-spotted purples, lack that trait as they have evolved to mimic the poisonous pipevine swallowtail (Battus philenor). Due to overlap in distribution among the two major groups, intermediates are numerous as hybridization occurs frequently.
This White Admiral had just emerged from its cocoon and was resting before flying away.

Lilium bulbiferum, common names orange lily, fire lily, Jimmy's Bane and tiger lily, a herbaceous European lily with underground bulbs, belonging to the Liliaceae.
The Latin name bulbiferum of this species, meaning "bearing bulbs", refers to the secondary bulbs on the stem of the nominal subspecies.
Minekata tunnel (嶺方トンネル) is dug under the ridge that forms the border between Hakuba village and Kinasa in Nagano city. It is the dividing ridge between the Hime-kawa valley and the Oku-susobana gorge.
The tunnel is also called Shirasawa Doumon (白沢洞門) by the people on the Kinasa side of the ridge.
If coming from mountainous Kinasa, this is the place you marvel at a panoramic view of Kita Alps.
Snow-capped peaks of Hakuba-yari, Ten'guno Kashira and Karamatsu-dake are seen from right to left.
The road is National Route 406, a trunk road albeit nominally.

The University of Glasgow (abbreviated as Glas. in post-nominals; Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Ghlaschu) is a public research university in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded by papal bull in 1451 [O.S. 1450], it is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities. Along with the universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and St Andrews, the university was part of the Scottish Enlightenment during the 18th century.
86428 ‘Aldaniti’ heads the 1722 Euston to Northampton commuter service on the stormy evening on 4th April 1990.
The locomotive carries the mercifully short-lived miniature numbers applied to InterCity’s locomotive fleet when they received the sector’s ‘Swallow’ livery as seen here. Miniature numbers were applied in 1988 and early 1989, and not surprisingly, were despised by the rail enthusiasts of the day.
Later in 1990 the locomotive had its electric train heating isolated and was renumbered as 86628, a number that it carried for the next 30 years as a (nominally) dedicated freight locomotive. It was withdrawn from service in July 2020, after 54 years in service.

For those of you who have always wanted a Jaguar, but just didn’t have the money, now is your chance. This one is almost like new. Of course, if you want it to run you may have to put some money into it.
Just parking it in your yard would be a status symbol though. We could tow it over to you for a nominal amount.
The Italian 1929 OM 665 SSMM Superba race car. The firm OM, which stands for Officine Meccaniche, was founded in 1899 in Milan. It came into being as a result of the merger of two firms that were active in the production of railway locomotives and rolling stock. OM's involvement with car manufacturing began in 1917 when it purchased the Roberto Zust factory in Brescia. (A Zust 28/45 HP participated in the 1908 New York to Paris Race, won by a Thomas Flyer, and finished third.) Their first car appeared in 1918, and it had a close resemblance to the Zust. The punitive taxation system on Italian manufacturing was based on engine capacity, which dictated the need to get the most power out of 'nominal' engine sizes.
This famous OM factory team car is the supercharged 665 SS MM model with the larger 2.3-liter 6 cylinder engine, finned cylinder heads and dual water manifold pipes. It was driven in its racing debut to first in class and fifth overall in the 1930 Mille Miglia by Aldo Bassi and Carlo Gazzabini. The Mille Miglia was a thousand-mile race first held in December 1926. The event began and finished in Brescia and ran a 'figure of eight' course down to Rome and back. It was won with a 1-2-3 finish by Brescia-based car manufacturer, OM.
The racing events with which these cars competed required four-seater sports touring bodies. It is believed that this car, and others, would have been sent to Milan, where local coachbuilders Carrozzeria Sport modified its existing coachwork or else replaced it with the four-seater lightweight touring bodywork that it needed to be eligible for the race.
This important race car sold at auction in 2014 at auction for just under $2 mil!!!!
OM was taken over by the Fiat Group in 1938 and in the following year passenger car production ceased, and OM became a commercial vehicle and train part manufacturer.

This interesting site is located far out on Kent’s southernmost point, in the United Kingdom’s only desert and Europe’s largest shingle foreland. It lies at the end of the remnants of a single-track branch line dating back to 1881. Briefly re-capping, a line across the Romney Marsh between Ashford and Hastings was brought into use by the SER on 13th February 1851. By Act of 8th April 1881, the nominally independent ‘’Lydd Railway Company’’ was formed to build a ten-mile single-track line across the bleak peninsula to Lydd and Dungeness. This left the Ashford to Hastings line at Appledore, and the section of line between there and Lydd was opened to passengers on 7th December 1881 – beyond, to Dungeness, was initially goods only. Passenger services were extended to Dungeness on 1st April 1883. On 19th June of the following year, a three-mile single-track line was opened to passengers from ‘’New Romney Junction’’, 7¾-miles south of Appledore, to New Romney.
Smailholm Tower in the Scottish border’s commands an excellent view over the surrounding countryside as it stands proud on the rocky crag of “Lady Hill” and it’s easy to see why this site was chosen for the construction of a defensive tower house. For five hundred years, the border between England and Scotland was witness to repeated wars both large and small, and even in nominally peaceful times, cross border banditry was the norm rather than the exception.

Again, we can still see a little bit of the Indian Great Wall in the furthest part of the picture just above the mountain, however sketchy that is. Moreover, the way and the idea the arch is shaped here came from lotus flower.
This is a business similar to horse driven carriages in Europe taking tourists to points of attraction-- and here in this case the Amber Fort. This is a fast dwindling business, for even though the elephant drivers themselves are taking nominal wages, elephants eats a lot, much more than horses. Moreover, we are now very much into a global economic downturn which means there are less and less tourists. On the other hand, the rise and modernization of India means better job opportunities, together with the super inflation rate everywhere world round, there is a real chance that the office will soon be a thing of the past within a decade or so.

The Deejo "37g" Ebony is a stylish lightweight pocket knife made in France. With a hint of an ebony handle. Lockable blade with liner lock, but still "street legal" in Germany, as it is dual hand operated.
The "37g" name comes from the nominal weight of this knife - 37 grams.
These knives also come with other wood inserts on the handles, such as juniper or olive. Or even as "naked" w/o that piece of wood at all.
Tip, in case you stumble upon those in an online shop: though the "naked" versions do look even more stylish and cool, they are unfortunately very uncomfortable to hold in the hand.
Better buy in a "brick and mortar" shop where you could "try it on" and see how the respective wood and metal combo really looks like.

Christ Church Cathedral, more formally The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, is the cathedral of the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough and the cathedral of the ecclesiastical province of the United Provinces of Dublin and Cashel in the (Anglican) Church of Ireland. It is situated in Dublin, Ireland, and is the elder of the capital city's two medieval cathedrals, the other being St Patrick's Cathedral.
The cathedral was founded in the early 11th century under the Viking king Sitric Silkenbeard. It was rebuilt in stone in the late 12th century under the Norman potentate Strongbow, and considerably enlarged in the early 13th century, using Somerset stones and craftsmen. A partial collapse in the 16th century left it in poor shape and the building was extensively renovated and rebuilt in the late 19th century, giving it the form it has today, including the tower, flying buttresses, and distinctive covered footbridge.Christ Church is officially claimed as the seat (cathedra) of both the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic archbishops of Dublin. In law, and in fact, it has been the cathedral of only the Church of Ireland's Archbishop of Dublin since the English Reformation. Though nominally claiming Christ Church as his cathedral, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin uses St Mary's in Marlborough Street in Dublin as his pro-cathedral (acting cathedral).
Christ Church Cathedral is located in the former heart of medieval Dublin, next to Wood Quay at the end of Lord Edward Street. However, a major dual carriageway building scheme around it separated it from the original medieval street pattern which once surrounded it, with its original architectural context (at the centre of a maze of small buildings and streets) lost due to road-building and the demolition of the older residential quarter at Wood Quay. As a result, the cathedral now appears dominant in isolation behind new civil offices along the quays, out of its original medieval context. The cathedral is used as the setting for filming from time to time.
Christ Church is the only one of the three cathedrals or acting cathedrals which can be seen clearly from the River Liffey.

The Sainte-Suplice church and the eponymous fountain
Saint-Sulpice Church is a Catholic parish church located in the Odeon district, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.
It is dedicated to Sulpice the Pious, Archbishop of Bourges in the 7th century.
The church has been classified as a historical monument since May 20, 1915. Due to the fire in Notre-Dame de Paris on April 15, 2019, the church serves as a diocesan cathedral for large ceremonies in accordance with the wishes of the Archbishop of Paris. The seat of the archdiocese nominally remains at Notre-Dame, even during reconstruction.
The Saint-Sulpice fountain on the forecourt of the church which gives it its name, is sometimes called the fountain of the sacred orators and is also mischievously called the fountain of the four cardinal points because it is adorned with four statues of Catholic bishops ( on the photo LEFLECHIER, bishop of Nimes), famous preachers from the time of Louis XIV, but who were never appointed cardinals. However, the faces of the fountain are more or less aligned with the cardinal points.
It isn't often that you come across a wreck of a boat on a lovely sandy beach. Most I have read about seem to have grounded on rocks, but this one sits half way along a huge stretch of sandy beach at the Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon.
The MV Peter Iredale was built I'm Maryport (now part of Cumbria in England) in 1890 but ran aground in 1906 when she was heading for the mouth of the Columbia River. Alas in the fog and gales the night of 25th October 1906 she ran aground on what was known then as Clatsop Sands. She was a whole four miles south of entrance to the Columbia River.
When grounded she was intact and all 27 crew plus two stowaways survived but apart from the nominal remains now seen here the 2,075 tons of steel and wood have all been eroded by the last centuries tidies and storms. During this period the deterioration of the wreck has been photographed periodically. I really do find it quite amazing how such a large man made object can be ground away by natural forces. There are a few photographs online that show the pace of the decomposition of the wreck.
Two photos stitched.

Shenzhen was the first of the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) to be established by paramount leader Deng Xiaoping.
As a SEZ, Shenzhen is given the privilege to embrace market capitalism policies under the guise of "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics," unlike other cities in Mainland China which is based on a planned economy. As of 2018, Shenzhen has a nominal GDP of 2.42 trillion RMB (HK$2.87 trillion), which recently had surpassed neighboring Hong Kong's GDP of HK$2.85 trillion and Guangzhou's GDP of 2.29 trillion RMB (HK$2.68 trillion), making the economic output of Shenzhen the third largest out of Chinese cities, trailing behind Shanghai and Beijing. In addition, Shenzhen's GDP growth between 2016 and 2017 of 8.8% surpassed that of Hong Kong and Singapore, with 3.7% and 2.5% respectively. With a market capitalization of US$2.5 trillion as of 30 November 2018, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) is the 8th largest exchange in the world.

The starting point for the river Stour is approximately a mile from the Stourhead estate and is accessed by walking from the estate up through a small grassed valley with wooded ridges. The nominal source of the river Stour is now marked by St Peter's Pump, an ancient 14th century pumping house. This though is actually a fairly recent addition to this site and was positioned at the nominal source of the river Stour by Henry Hoare in 1786. Previously, St Peter's Pump (also known as St Agnes pump) had stood at the junction of Peter Street and Dolphin Street in Bristol for 300 years. It had formed a major part of the Bristol water supply. It was heavily decorated although now much of the original stone work is now badly eroded.
The location Henry Hoare located St Peter's Pump is also known as Six Wells Bottom. Six Wells Bottom has been regarded as the start of the river Stour since antiquity. The family crest of the Stourhead baroncy is actually based on a theme of six wells. Today though only one well is left. This sits right at the base of St Peter's Pump.
Thankfully NO.
In 2004 Asteroid Apophis was discovered and it was originally estimated to have a 3% chance of hitting Earth in 2029.
New analysis means that Apophis is now no longer on the ‘SENTRY IMPACT RISK TABLE’ which is a list of objects that pass close to Earth that astronomers have not yet been able to rule out a possible strike.
Apophis is a near Earth Asteroid with a relatively large size (It is about 1,100 feet or 335 meters - wide). It gained noteriety in 2004 when early observations suggested it might strike Earth in 2029. Though it will come breathtaking close to Earth in 2029, a strike has been ruled out.
Apophis should pass on Friday 13th April 2029 at a nominal distance of 19,662 miles (31, 643 KM) from the Earths surface. That’s in contrast to the moon’s average distance of about quarter of a million miles (380,000 KM). It is estimated that two billion people will be able to see it with the naked eye.
NASA have recently confirmed there is no likelihood of a asteroid strike for at least 100 years.....
Thanks for visiting.
Take care out there and tick asteroids off the worry list! 🙀🙀🙀.

Garth Pier, Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.
Garth Pier Coordinates.... 53°14′18.58″N 4°7′26.76″W
Garth Pier is a Grade II listed structure in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. At 1,500 feet (460 m) in length, it is the second-longest pier in Wales, and the ninth longest in the British Isles.
Designed by J.J. Webster of Westminster, London, the 1,550 feet (470 m) pier has cast iron columns, with the rest of the metal structure made in steel, including the handrails. The wooden deck has a series of octagonal kiosks with roofs, plus street lighting, which lead to a pontoon landing stage for pleasure steamers on the Menai Strait.
In 1971, the pier closed on safety grounds, with ownership being passed to Arfon Borough Council in 1974. The council took the immediate decision to demolish the pier, but Bangor City Council objected, obtaining a Grade II listing for the structure, with the planning officer considering it one of the three finest surviving piers in Great Britain.
Purchasing the pier for a nominal 1p in 1975, in 1982 renovation, undertaken by Alfred McAlpine commenced, taking until 1988 to complete. Financial assistance was given from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Welsh Office and Manpower Services Commission. The pier was reopened by George Paget, 7th Marquess of Anglesey on 7 May 1988.
Refreshments are available in the pavilion café, at the far end of the pier ☕🍦
