The big choke cherry tree in our front yard lost a HUGE limb in a late spring storm. After I cut it away, The branch above revealed an oriole nest. There are babies in it, being well cared for by both parents.

The instant I saw this old log truck, I was reminded of the old Buzz Martin song, "My Used Log Truck".
This is the second active nest in our back yard, This is the first time we spotted the beaks of the chicks. This golf ball-sized nest is about 8 or 9 ft (~3m) off the ground so hard to get a good vantage. Fun to see more more little hummingbird lives come into being.
Whether it was just the wind and rain overnight or perhaps spring is coming the Mill Lake Bald Eagle pair are getting the old nest cleaned up.
Swallow nests high up on the lighthouse. They certainly had an ample supply of food (mosquitoes). If you look close enough you can see can see birds.

This Blythe doll is Blue Rabbit, posing for the theme “Nest” in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. My daughter painted the nest in the center. I made the dress. The headband came to me as part of a craft swap.
Mama has been sitting on her eggs for a couple of days, but she still occasionally brings more materials to fluff up the nest. Must be very cozy in there!
We saw these egrets at a rookery in Norfolk Virginia. The nesting site is at the curb of a busy road and is in someones front yard.
We counted at least 50 nests in the tree.
There was a steady stream of birds coming in with small branches and twigs.
Ardea alba.
The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.
The oldest known Great Egret was 22 years, 10 months old and was banded in Ohio.
A little springtime beauties in Iowa
Very popular with the hummingbirds
Story: in half a day, a nest was built in our door wreath. We tried to be oh so careful not to use this nest. One day, we noticed a freshly broken egg. The bird was GONE; she never was sitting on her eggs, to our knowledge. But, one egg remains...
Marsh Wren. Nest building. The males are known for their loud gurgling song. Learning continues throughout their adult life; it has been shown they will imitate songs presented to them on a tape recording or by a live tutor. IMG_4940
In this image a Bald Eagle returns to last years nest atop a tall pine tree with a little Spanish moss in its rebuilding process. To the right half hidden behind the tree limb is its mate.
Eurasian Blue Tit, (Cyanistes Caeruleus).
Visitors to my garden.
For several years this nest box in my garden has had a mating pair of Blue Tits (Cyanistes Caeruleus). It's lovely to see them back once again. Whether it's the same pair annually is unknown. They may be offspring from previous years?

No Group Awards/Banners, thanks
It all started with a leak in the conservatory... and then a floorboard having to come up to investigate (thanks again Darren for sorting the problem if you see this).
Stuck to some polystyrene insulation under the floorboards was this beautiful and apparently unoccupied nest, the work of a queen wasp. A little smaller than a golf ball and weighing 0.4 grams, there are a dozen or so hexagonal cells inside. I'm just struck by how beautifully crafted it is! :)
Northern Flicker female (Colaptes auratus) returns to nest hole; shot from seated position; Yellowstone NP; Wyoming; USA
A bunch of shots today... I've been trying to slow it down a bit, but I couldn't help myself today. So many interesting places... It was largely a continuation of my Mario Botta pilgrimage, though not exclusively. We went to several spots in the Mendrisio area, all in all it was a really fun day.
My first explored shot!!! (#119) (maxed out on Jan 22, 2008 at #38)
