BC’s Flower

Nikon z9, 200mm, 1/500, f/2.8, ISO 100

I worked with a different lens to get macro shots today. The next series of shots will all be from the z-mount 70-200, 2.8 lens. This is one of my go to lenses for movement, but does a great job with manual focus on macro. This shot is of a new dogwood tree that we planted last year in our yard. I love this official flower of British Columbia and am excited the new tree is flourishing!

"I love to walk along the estuary that flows in and out of Craig Bay. The bull rushes, different birds and geese, the ocean mingling with the stream currents and tides, and varieties of trees coexisting in a small space - lovely!" - Deirdre Kelly, 2013 myPQB Story Contest

Nana’s Photographic Tales: Swirling Night

Donna M hold on to something, I’m swirling again! I taught myself how to make star trails probably in 2018 and still love to see how every one is unique and different depending on the night sky. I typically use about 400-500 shots taken over a several hour period and then stack and blend them in a software programme. I originally used Adobe Photoshop but switched to StarStack as it was quicker. The focus point is always around the North Star.

Magnetic Field Lines

Nikon z9, 14mm, 15 sec, f/2.8, ISO 500

When you took science did you ever put iron shavings on top of a piece of white paper and move them around the paper with a magnet underneath? This common science lab helps demonstrate magnetic field lines. These photos from the Northern Light show from last Friday reminded me of that fun experiment.

Figuring it Out

The Many Sides of Nikki Series

Nikon z7, 24mm, 1/15 s, f/2.8, ISO 100

Here was the shot of the bridge at Spider Lake with just Nikki and Len. We figured it worked best if I just stay behind the camera and fire off enough shots to get at least one good one. While Nikki isn’t looking at the camera, rather checking out Len for that next treat, she is at least sitting pretty…. Awe the joys of photographing pets in beautiful outdoor spots.

"This photo is of my parents who were married for 57 years. My father had dementia in his last few years of life but he never forgot us and especially my mother. Oh Hello

Z9, 400mm, 1/800s, f/7.1, ISO 200

We watched this bear chase fish by the mouth of the river for about ten more minutes when he/she stopped and started walking up river just below us across the bank. It was fun to finally have it closer to us. Keep in mind we are up in a tower, completely quiet, and protected. He/she headed up where we had watched large clumps of salmon just hanging in the river and started fishing again under the trees.
