I am re-posting this photo to provide an update on the planned timber harvest by Prentiss & Carlisle at Bottle Brook falls. See my photo posts on December 12th for the original report.
My e-mail to Prentiss & Carlisle's operations division generated no response. More recently, Gerry Whiting of the Appalachian Mountain Club contacted Prentiss & Carlisle by phone, on behalf of the Piscataquis Tourism Development Authority. Gerry was unable to obtain any commitment other than to "comply with the letter of the law" in conducting the planned timber harvest at this location. "Letter of the law" can mean aggressive cutting to within 25 feet of the brook, with additional selective cutting within the 25 foot stream protection area.
P&C is understandably reluctant to defer its harvest based on a single phone call. P&C both owns and manages timberland, and may be managing this parcel for another owner.
With that said, I remain convinced that the trees on this small (5 to 10 acre) parcel, due to their proximity to a very scenic waterfall with easy road access, ultimately have far higher value as part of a conservation easement than as cut timber. In other words, on this particular parcel, a hard cut will constitute poor land management.
What the actual cut will look like remains to be seen. That decision will be in the hands of Prentiss & Carlisle's forester overseeing the harvest. If the harvest is as aggressive as the Maine Forest Practices Act allows and replicates the prior harvest south of Bottle Brook, the quality of this waterfall will be significantly degraded, without an opportunity to first have it evaluated for potential conservation easement acquisition as a local tourism resource.

I photographed from a distance, from the car window for minimal disturbance, even though the birds are fairly well acclimated to humans at this busy location, in a waterfront parking lot.

It looked like she was right so I ordered on. She responded promptly to my e-mails and promised me to make sure I'll get mine within a few days, since I was about to leave the country. She kept word and I'm really impressed with my new Journal. The paper she uses is of good quality and works great with my G2 pen.
But the best thing is, it fits a large size soft cover moleskine notebook perfectly.

Only a few hours ago I heard about the sudden death of Marsha Ellen Meidow (that's her on the left with her mom on the right)... I knew Marsha as a promoter of the arts here in Calgary, a skilled charity event organizer most notably known for Femme Fatale... She also worked with troubled youth with great vigour and passion, to keep them off the streets and out of trouble...
I just received this in my e-mail shortly before posting this photo...

Nothing is working today. Primarily, the computer is not working today, so that even when I got my non-working brain to work and finally got some work done and went to send it, my e-mail screen turned into a solid gray block. I went to post a blog and it turned solid black. I tried to comment on a friend's blog, gray. Grr. For some reason, the only sites I can visit are the Yahoo homepage and Flickr. I can't even pull up a song or get myself good and angry while validating my own intelligence by watching bigoted morons be moronic on Youtube. (Yeah, I do that.) And then my son decided to pick a huge fight with me about whether he is required to button his own pants. Double grr.
Plus, I got a grand total of three hours' sleep last night, and three-and-a-half the night before. So I'm just dead freakin' tired right now. Like, I keep fantasizing about sleeping on every surface -- desk, car dashboard, stove top -- that I happen to pass. I zoned out with my son and watched Wolverine and the X-Men (if you have to be subjected to cartoons, parents, this one's not too bad), and he decided to tickle me, and I got all startled, like really startled, and angry.
Yeah. Today as a parent/writer/human being = FAIL.
So here's a bright happy picture to counter that. This, plus having come in from an hour of backyard baseball with David, is improving my mood if not my productivity. I will attempt to repair the computer after putting my son to bed, when I can say all the dirty words I want and not feel bad. Hopefully then I can post the backed-up blog posts I have, whereupon I will post pictures to pimp out my work shamelessly promote myself link to them.

Cacau Pirera (Amazonas), 4th Oct 2023 - Boats and floating houses run aground along the lakes and streams of Cacau Pirera, Amazonas. After the Amazon River dropped 10 meters in just over a month, hundreds of communities became unreachable by conventional means of transportation. This situation has forced residents into long walks to reach their homes, often carrying essential goods and supplies.
This is the first update in my E-Reader collection in months, and I'm so lazy with this collection since the only other time I bought E-Reader related stuff was in a huge gameboy lot over a year ago.
My Bloody Valentine (1981) Reunion screening

Rue Morgue magazine put on a one night only screening of the original Canadian slasher "My Bloody Valentine" (1981) as part of their monthly Cinemacbre screenings at the Bloor Cinema in downtown Toronto.
This was the very first time the film has been seen UNCUT on the big screen and a number of cast and crew were on hand for this very special one night only screening/reunion.
Cast and crew in attendance included:

Alf Humphreys - Howard
Paul Kelman - TJ
Paul Zaza - composer
Bob Presman - Line producer

I made this bag because I really needed a diaper bag for my newborn baby. I decided to make it so can put everything I wanted in it.
I designed it and didn't use a pattern.
With a 6-week old baby and no sewing experience it was difficult to get started, but when I finally finished it I was very happy with the result.
To describe my bag a little bit: it has 3 inside pockets (one big one especially for diapers), 2 outside pockets, a water bottle holder and a key holder.
I put all my effort and love into it. My little baby girl was my inspiration!

Juliet's log: Tuesday 5th No early rise this morning – I woke naturally at 10.05am! – So we spent the morning trying to send emails (unsuccessfully)and jobs around the caravan. This is a free Wi-Fi site but this means it is unprotected and btconnect blocks outgoing emails (- and when we got back home I discovered my e-mail address had been compromised!).
Pm: we decided to go to Collioure for a re-reconnoitre and then see how far we could drive up to Tour de Madeloc which is on the highest peak behind the town. In 1970 we had driven up there almost to the top in old Austin A40 with a slipping clutch. This time we could drive to alt. 450m and then had to walk a winding path for the last 200m in altitude – a lot further in distance. The temp. was 25C even up there but there was a slight breeze. We had amazing views especially N along the coast as it was probably one of the clearest days we could have.
After a quick supper we visited Michael and Annie on their new campsite near Argeles. They wanted to be able to walk into the town but hadn’t realised quite how ‘beachy’ it was around there. We didn’t like the site of its position at all – shady but no privacy with open pitches under the trees.
