A can of Modus Hoperandi from SKA Brewing in Durango, Colorado, at Olympen in Oslo.
Modus Hoperandi is a 6,8% abv India Pale Ale sold in cans. I tasted it back in February and loved it, four months later I encounted another can from the same batch and was eager to find out how it had aged.
It poured a golden amber color with a white head. The aroma was the first hint that it had peaked, I barely smelled any hops - just a grainy malt sweetness. The flavor was also a disappointment, all the aroma hops were gone - leaving a sweet malt brew with a very bitter finish. Unbalanced and rather boring, I struggled to drink up my glass!
Sadly to say, like most IPAs, this beer just had a couple of months of shelf life. In five months, from February to July, this beer had been reduced from a world class fresh & hoppy IPA to a sweet, mild barley wine with no aroma hops whatsoever.

Modus Hoperandi is a 6,8% abv India Pale Ale sold in cans (probably inspired by fellow Colodaro brewery Oskar Blues). It poured a golden amber color with a white head. It had a wonderful hop aroma, with fresh pine scents and mild malt tones. Nice creamy texture and medium to light in the mouth. Flavor started with a mild, fruity sweetness before the aroma hops kicked in. Fresh juicy hops, with a strong piny character. Awesome! The finish was very long with a good bitterness and some lingering malt notes. This is a delicious, refreshing and very good India Pale Ale.

Besides a Guinness, Double Chocolate or Boddington's, I haven't had a good beer in a can, so it was weird tasting a strong bitter hop flavor at first.
It's the beer of the week at Quencher's right now for $4.
Someone must have squeezed out all the juice from the hops into this beer. It was almost like drinking juice.

It had a light body and was crisp and refreshing (and exactly what I needed after running around town). The citrusy hop flavor was immediately noticeable. However, there was bit of maltiness that came through to match it. In the finish, I did notice a hint of floralness, but the citrusy hop flavor stuck around in my mouth for a while. It’s a pretty drinkable beer for hopheads, and... (More on Ska Brewing – Modus Hoperandi India Pale Ale Draft)
