Short Story Behind The Image: As I was photographing the Earth Day parade in Balboa Park, this women can up to me and did not speak, to my recollection, but pointed at the logo on her tee shirt, or so I thought. I took a picture of the logo, but she seemed frustrated and move on down the line. It was not until I started looking at, and begin to edit the images from the event that I realized my error, I know believe she wanted to for me to register to vote. I had to blow up this image and focus on the paper in her hand before I realized my error. There is probably no way to apologize in person for my misunderstanding of her quest... The only thing I can really do is say is that "Yes," I am registered to vote and intend, as I have every year, since I could... vote.
Prior to the trip, I was reading info about Vanuatu. On one page, I read something like "enjoy the walking trails because there are no spiders or snakes to worry about." I interpreted this as NO spiders or snakes and was pretty excited. Turns out that what it really meant was no POISONOUS spiders or snakes. These were hanging all over the place.

It is quite understandable that many tourists think this when travelling in Iceland, the land of the sagas. Nonetheless, it should be stressed that this was not the original intention. I took this photo at a friend's house in search of a location that would best suit this assignment. I thought it would be cool to incorporate words as part of the staged aspect of this photo. I also piled up some books to the side as a sort of an ironic gesture.
I would have liked to have had some more points of interest to this photo. I think the pile of books could have been tall enough to reach the top of the board which would have added an interesting and more fun vibe to this photo.

Due to a misunderstanding with the rest of my party over when and where we would meet, I ended up hanging out in the sculpture room at the V&A for much longer than I otherwise would have. But it was for the better that I did, such a fascinating place.

Matt and I had a small misunderstanding last night. Not an argument, but he felt bad that he might of upset me. So this morning, he stopped by my house to apologize with some roses.

The South Unit of the Big Badlands National Park is run under the jurisdiction of the Lakota Nation in cooperation with the National Park Service. There are many misunderstandings and much bad blood between the Lakota and the government of the U.S. It is my dream that one day these problems will be cleansed but it will take the power of both the peoples involved. Most Americans don't understand that the Lakota nation was an independent nation outside of the power of the U.S. for hundreds of years until around 1890's. That's not that long ago, only a few generations. Shannon county is the poorest county in the U.S. and has been since the wars. Until a few years ago it was national policy to force indigenous people to forget there old way of life and force them to give up there native language. Americans should remember every day that they are living in stolen land taken in bloodied violence. Women, children, the elderly were killed just as often as the warriors. I guess we never learn, there is always someone less than you that should be vanquished... is this the legacy that we defend, is this the way we really want our nation to be. We Must Have Unity
