"On Sept. 29th and 30th, 2011, Code Red Robotics (Team 639) held a demo at the NY State Fair, as part of the 4-H Youth Building Exhibits. Code Red is Ithaca High School's FIRST robotics team. The team is composed of 51 students, 15 professional mentors and parent volunteers, and they worked for six weeks from early January to late February in order to build their robot. Team members spent their time at the State Fair presenting and demonstrating their robot, known as "Duck 'n Cover", for this year's challenge, "Logomotion". The robot resembles the shape of a duck, with its angry, animated eyes on the front and a duck bill-shaped clamp at the front. The quick and maneuverable robot has the ability to pick up inner tubes off the ground and hang them on the racks. There is also a speedy minibot that is deployed off the main robot at the end game. As it shoots off the tray, our minibot has the ability to make its way up a 12 foot steel pole within 1.7 seconds. Overall, the team had a great time talking to the public and showing them how much hard work and enthusiasm is put into constructing a robot."
