Jugando en la ciudad...

The penultimate shot of the Barrett Lumber Yard series, taken as you can see whilst the snow was coming down. About 5 minutes after taking this, it did stop, but I was already on my way by then as we had run out of time and had to leave. I so love the ramshackled look of the wood with all it's gaps and the bare winter trees and scrub land in front.

Is it just me or does this remind you of a Lowrie Painting?

Leaving the Basement Bowling Bar....

A second snapshot portrait with the little boy's baby sister added to the picture. I love her smile and her bright eyes. They're certainly a contrast to the stoic expression that her brother's maintained. I have a feeling that he might have been ready to get out of that sailor suit and go out to play by the time this picture was taken.

It has the agfa-lupex logo on the back, which suggests that it was taken either before or shortly after the end of World war II, since the company changed it's logo to just "Agfa" after the war. The only two pictures with dates on them are in the '50's (1952 and 1959).I think that the little sister shown in this photo, might be the nine or ten year old girl in the '52 photo, which would place this picture somewhere around '43 or '44.

Shot last weekend along the Central Oregon coast.

I processed this image using a combination of Photoshop and the new program Luminar 2018. I wanted to see how well they integrated with one another and how I might incorporate Luminar into my workflow. This was just a first experiment. The integration worked as expected and I'm still learning the intricacies of Luminar to achieve the final look I'm going for.

I so enjoy the learning process!

Paranoia is in bloom,

The PR, transmissions will resume

They'll try to, push drugs that keep us all dumbed down

And hope that, we will never see the truth around

(So come on)

Another promise, another seed

Another, packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed

And all the, green belts wrapped around our minds

And endless red tape to keep the truth confined

(So come on)

They will not force us

They will stop degrading us

They will not control us

We will be victorious

So come on

Interchanging mind control

Come let the, revolution takes its toll

If you could, flick the switch and open your third eye

You'd see that, we should never be afraid to die

(So come on)

Plymouth broke the mould; sort of. Instead of "MIND THE GAP" the station platform at Plymouth has retained the arcane and odd usage of "mind" to remind everyone that their platform is a bit lower than you might prefer. England is laced with these oddities: complex phraseology when simple would communicate better, the most convoluted approach to simple matters of plumbing and their favourite transport safety message, repeated ad nauseam, "see it, say it, sorted".

I began posting to Flickr as a way to let everyone know where I was in my travels. I'm travelling again in a not quite post-COVID world. I try to be a traveller, not a tourist. All the same, my travels this time will be punctuated by a small group tour nominally focussed on things of an astronomical and engineering bent.

Like my plans to post sequentially according to the date taken, hardly anything ever turns out to be perfect — sorry if that has upset the idealists and optimists among you.

With the hindsight of my disrupted plans I'm now inclined to title my travels to the UK in 2023 as "MIND THE GAP". You see, despite almost all my travelling plans running smoothly, the tourism delivery was a bit more, shall we say, chaotic. That may sound a bit unkind. Without the company of eminent scientists I would never have access to the places I've been. It's the bits I signed up for that fell into the gap, never to be seen again, the organiser's ignorance of the 6Ps, disregard for their own respiratory infection protocols and the unconscious bias attracted by cliques and elites that elicited this change, in my mind, for the working title.

Anyway, I'm back now, or at least parts of me are and I promise to outshine the service delivery which confirmed for me that travelling is so much better that tourism.

Compositionally Challenged - Week 4: A Thousand Words

Mind the Gap is a common phrase in the UK.

His mind ,his kingdom and his will, his law. William Cowper

Is there a curve in sight????

A place to go to when your brain feels like it has been tied up in a thousand knots, when you think it’s just impossible to untangle what’s happening on the inside. The confusion, the decisions to be made, the irrelevant projects to hand in. Applications to be filled in, portfolios to be put together, interviews to go to. New businesses to setup… and so much more…

I need a holiday, sadly no break, I gota keep on moving… the end is near… I can see it. The wave is coming...

Whats on your mind?

A huge ravine in the Skaftafell National Park, dug out by a river. The light was quite difficult with the dark ravine against the bright sunlit ash fog. But IR worked out the contrast quite nicely.

Here our group walked along and down the left side of the ravine until it finally leveled with the ground at a great plain.

This was one of the places I ran the most to get shots from different view points. My forehead wouldn't get dry for at least 15 minutes in the bus after this...
