One of two pictures I have been inspired to post today, by other people's posts of the same vehicle. This is MRM2, one of only 3 Alexander AD-bodied Metrobuses built, and one that was exhibited at the 1979 Scottish Motor Show. Here is is seen with paint peeling off the roof, at Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow in the mid 1980's, shortly before it was transferred to Kelvin Scottish.

MRM2 later worked for Capital Citybus.

In the background on the right is I think the more usual R-type body on a Metrobus for Midland, and in the far distance on the left, behind the Central SMT Y-type bodied Leopard, is an Alexander AV-type bodied Ailsa also of Midland.

Keep seeing this bus whenever I visit Croydon, but never had it in service...until now! Metrobus Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini 2 WVL334 (LX59DDL) is seen at Cromwell Road, Kingston on route X26

Metrobus ADL Enviro200 187 (YX13AJV) is seen in Orpington High Street on route R8.

Believe it or not, this was the first Metrobus Enviro 200 to be used on route 434, albeit it was loaned to Croydon for route learning and type training exactly 6 years ago today in fact while 189-192 were being delivered before the 434 was taken over by Metrobus. It was returned to Orpington once this was completed and has since been refurbished as part of route 138's contract renewal.

West Yorkshire PTE used the name 'Metrobus' as its fleetname and could be seen on Atlanteans, Fleetlines from the PTE fleet and on VRT's amongst others from the various NBC fleets that operated within the PTEs area.

When the PTE started to evaluate its future buying options a batch of MCW's new Metrobus were taken, thus the new type became Metrobus Metrobuses!

The biennial Farnborough Airshow took place in July 2018 and as normal the Hampshire town was flooded with visitors the show.

The weekend public days meant the addition of 16 buses operating the Park & Ride service from the Eelmoor and Rushmoor car parks into the airshow site. Once again the service was provided by buses from the Bluestar and Metrobus fleets.

Brighton & Hove Albion football club play their home fixtures in Falmer, at the 32,000 seater AMEX Stadium next to the A27. Opened in 2011, it is some way from Brighton and Hove and has limited car parking, not just on site but in the general locality as well. So getting there for many involves using a network of organised bus and coach routes which come from all over Sussex! Seagull Travel run at least 16 coach services and 7 bus services to the stadium which complement the 2 park & ride services from Mill Road and Race Hill. There are other services too, such as the 1901 Club, Zeelo and North West Seagulls and of course you have the visiting team and their fans who, depending on where they are from, can send 10 or so coaches. Plus Brighton & Hove run bus services 3X and 23 past the stadium entrance so all said and done it's a 2-hour bus fest!

So on Saturday 18th October, I popped down to capture the bus and coach movements for the 3pm kick-off game between B&HA and Newcastle United, who brought 3,000 fans to the game. I was rewarded with a huge variety of operators, vehicle types, and good company to boot. Highlights for included the number 23 bus in B&HA colours, the Newcastle United team coaches, a pair of 25-plate Reays Coaches, a trio of Chaseside buses, a fine selection of Sussex Coaches including one of their bendy buses, and a pair of Dutch Van Oeveren Reizen Mercedes-Benz coaches!!

A good day then, and I left after bagging 50 home and 9 away buses and coaches in the coach park, around 20 on the park and rides, another 20 or so service buses, and a single non-football related coach that was just passing by. Brighton won 2-1.
