Another difficult choice presented itself during the recent Ensignbus running day. Would you ride on a mark 2 Metrobus or a Duple Caribbean bodied Leyland Tiger? However, as I’d arrived earlier on the Metrobus, it had to be the Tiger :-) . Both are seen in Brentwood. The Tiger was new to Southend as their 250 (A250 SVW) and the Metrobus had been new to Ensign themselves, as one of a batch of 16 new in November 1988. All 16 Metrobuses would pass to CNT Holdings a couple of years later when Ensign sold their LRT tendered work but just this one would be bought back in 1994 and has been owned ever since. That said, it had been off the road for many years until being reactivated and repainted just a few months ago. I think it looks superb.

Numerically the highest numbered Metrobus to be delivered to West Midlands Travel was 3124. I'm not sure if was the last to arrive, as there was a debacle regarding the delivery of the final batch of Metrobuses from the Metro Cammell Weymann Works. MCW had gone into liquidation and subsequently they were unable honour the warranty on these vehicles. A legal row ensured and the buses ended being parked up in Sheepcote Street Garage for sometime, at least until it was sorted out. However, one of the Metro's, 3107 was in the end refused by West Midlands Travel, as it had been dismantled and reassembled by DAF, as part of their assessment in taking on some of the former MCW work and developing their own version of the Metrobus. As a result, 3107 was never owned or operated by WMT, and was subsequently sold to other operator.
3124, a Hartshill based bus when new, is seen at Quinton on the 137 service, as it makes its way into Birmingham on a wet and Wintry afternoon on 6th January 1990. I understand that 3124 is no more because following withdrawal it was apparently sold for scrap.

The refurbished interior of Metrobus ADL Enviro 200 185 (YX13AJO) whilst on route 162. As you can see, the Metrobus "moon" moquette has given way to standard Go-Ahead London moquette. Have to say I much prefer the Metrobus moquette, but this is something I'll have to get used to soon as 189-192 off route 434 will receive the same interior "transformation" when they are refurbished later this year.
One of Metrobus's 38 new Wright Gemini 3 Hybrids WHV70 (BF65WJO) sits on stand at Purley Way whilst having a rest on route 119. This bus was here for quite a while without a driver , so I assumed this had gone faulty.

Metrobus Scania N230UD/East Lancs Omnidekka 947 (YN07EXF) arrives at Purley Tesco on route 405. This bus is due for a refurbishment in the near future, but a delay with the current buses in for refurbishment (949 and 952) means that this bus and sister 950 (YN07EXK) have to wait a while longer before they go in.
