I've been wanting a Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon type of space pilot character to use with 8-inch Mego type figures, so I decided to create one. I call him Starhawk.

It's a combination of clothing and accessories pilfered from other figures, such as the Star Trek Andorian and the Battlestar Galactica Cylon. There's a few things from the Borg and Apollo, and the base figure is a TV Bruce Wayne (so I guess this is like Adam West playing a heroic space character).

I tried this various ways, ultimately I'm happy with the look but it was kind of an excruciating journey. It's a good example of how feeling overrides functionality when making customs because so many things on this figure feel flimsy, yet the end result is fun.

At the salvage store. Lots of Mego. 90% off retail of $14.99 so, $1.50 each. Not so many different figs but a great deal for customizers.

In order to broadcast our Paprihaven Labor Day 2021 spectacular with government subsidies we have to include a PSA with a socially responsible message.

RRAAAA... RRRMMm... mmm... AAAHHH... UUURR...

That concludes our PSA. Now back to the festivities.

Another new Mego I had to have.

Look at that head sculpt . Looks like NECA detail to me !

I prefer the less detailed style of 70s Megos. But I couldn't pass this up !

Costume - Classic TV Toys, Head - custom resin, Body - vintage Mego, Hands - Monster High. Figure is approximately 8 inches tall.

New Spock in the old Mego Star Trek the Motion Picture uniform. I plan a total custom outfit at some point...I should have the pattern for this outfit somewhere...

Patch and Polly were determined to help the little Batman out with his outfit. No Bat should go capeless, was their motto.

Polly: Are you sure this is the right house?

Patch: It says, The Bathouse on the door. What else do you need? A blinkin' Bat signal?

Polly: Oh. No I was just thinking he wouldn't advertise his presence normally. This could be a trick.

Patch: Splendid! Let's find out. *Knocking on the door.*

I got a vintage 8" Mego Batman a while back without his cape, belt and emblem. Perhaps these girls can fix him?

And so then I said, "Well, how many blenders do you need?"

HAHAHAAHA!!!

Oh, Chachi, you're so funny!!

Prue, was that funny?

I don't know. I'm just so hungry. I thought we were gonna eat.

Dean and I had a little fun when he brought over his Mego dolls to visit my ones in Cher's Dressing Room when he last visited... What's the story here? The cleverest one wins! LOL

Doll Room (5/22/25) Farrah Fawcett (Mego) 1977

Buck plays with his vintage Mego action figures.

(I think I forgot to post this on Flickr several months back.... so here it is!) I deboxed the Maddie Mod last January that was a Birthday present from Dean and dressed her in one of the Mego outfits that are illustrated on her box; ( It’s the bottom sketch on the side of the box displayed next to her! Though this outfit is actually the UK Sindy Pedigree/Mego one ‘Jumper N’ Jeans’ from 1975, as interestingly, those two toy companies shared quite a few of those outfits in the mid 1970’s … though of course, it fits Maddie mod better!) She’s a fab new addition to my Mego shelf in my display cabinet, joining Candi, Coppertone Candi, Jordache, (The regular gal and the Cheerleader version, in that Candi roller-skating outfit) and a brunette Candi clone hiding in the back!

My Mego collection just keeps growing! Farrah is now wearing that ‘White Out’ pantsuit as I think she looks very ‘Jill Munroe’ in it, (And there is NO way she can wear that hat, so it is staying in her hand there! LOL It was all about the hair with Farrah, anyway!) I also got a bendy first issue Cher and dressed her in a recent NRFP fashion I also got: - ‘Strawberry.’ (I prefer the scarf tied around her head … all the better to show that sexy cut-out in the front of that groovy jumpsuit! Her joints haven’t melted yet, but I still covered them so they aren’t in contact with her clothes…) I also just got a much-coveted outfit: - ‘Foxy Lady’ in minty condition! Just love that gorgeous black lace and fringing over that glittery pale pink lurex jumpsuit, so I thought I’d show a slightly closer look of it there. Stay tuned for more guests to visit Cher’s dressing room!

I'm not much into this type photography but I've had these on display like this the last couple weeks and wanted to get a shot of them before I put them away.

Vintage 12 inch Mego Robin head on a modern Classic TV Toys body and suit. I made some leggins because the shoes are way too big for the 12 inch bodies and needs something keep them on.

Mego Marilyn Monroe was a Christmas gift from my old man Trev.

Thank you ever so.

I love Maddie Mod’s funky outfits from the late 60’s/early 70’s by Mego. They are very ‘Downtown’ as opposed to Barbie’s ‘Uptown’ wardrobe. I especially wanted ‘Groovin’ from 1969 as I always thought that it was almost identical to an outfit Twiggy wore in a 1967 issue of American Vogue that you can see here. Even though that fabulous golden blouse was worn over the tights in the picture on the back of the Mego box, I wanted to try it with the tights over the blouse, as in that look that was in Vogue magazine. I wonder if the designers at Mego were inspired by that look in Vogue when designing this outfit. (My one wasn’t in the box, but I thought I would show it here NRFB, so that image was taken from an online pic.) I decided to leave the white ankle boots off so that it would look more like the outfit in Vogue, but I loved those thick, round chocolate specs and that gold purse so they were still included. And of course, the outfit had to go on my latest Twiggy! She is really groovin!

I’ve been keeping my eye out for a Mego I liked since I never owned one before. I think this is a great combo of retro character and retro figure style, so since I had no Ultraman figure and no Mego figure, I had to get it!

" Well that depends on your vow of chastity "

My BFF Dean is now heavily into the Mego fashion dolls and action figures from the 1970s and I guess he influenced me with this babe. Yes, it’s the iconic Cher, apparently the bestselling fashion doll of 1976, who actually toppled Barbie from her long-time throne, if only for a year. This is the later budget version (as she doesn’t suffer from the dreaded ‘Mego Melt’ like the more articulated earlier dolls do.) and was NRFB, so her hair is still in its perfect silky, smooth state. I also managed to nab one of my favourite Bob Mackie designed outfits for her; - ‘Peasant Lady’… I love this, as that peasant top actually looks kinda modern, don’t you think? And I LOOOOOVE those very 70’s electric blue satin flares! But the biggest ‘get’ so far was her fabulous Dressing Room Set, still mint and complete in its box!!!! It even still came with its clothes hangers, and that very cool black catsuit to use with the Magic Mirror (that still works! And it came with several of the illustrated fashion cards of the other outfits that were available for her that - for the uninitiated- you slot into the back of that mirror. Then you place Cher in her catsuit on the stand so just her head is reflected in that ‘mirror’ and you can see it on top of that illustrated fashion! You then move the lever on the bottom of the stand and she twirls around, while the illustration moves to the back view… hours of fun!) and even the patterned detachable carry strap that is often now missing from these sets. I also read in some department store wishbooks from that time that Cher even ‘designed’ the playset herself! The most dangerous part of all however, was that the set also came with that fold-out catalogue of all the other outfits you can get Cher (And Sonny! Even though he looks quite odd IMO, I need to get him, too) so now I also need to get all of those outfits … Though I HAVE gotten another famous Mego celebrity, so watch this space….

A friend surprised me with this for my birthday... I was not even aware of this reissue...

The 1970’s were a golden age for fashion dolls… Kids and collectors alike had a huge amount of choice, even here in out-of-the-way Australia. There was of course, the reigning queen Barbie, Sindy, Dusty, Tuesday Taylor, Darci and about a million clones available … and then there was this gal. This from Carmen Varricchio’s wonderful book on clone dolls of the 70’s and 80’s, ‘Doll Junk’: - “Fashion Candi was Mego’s last, most ambitious and I think, most interesting attempt to nudge Barbie from the top of the fashion doll heap…” Indeed, her gimmick was that you could paint her hair different colours to be a redhead, brunette or even a raven-haired beauty. She also inherited nearly all of Sindy’s amazing accessories, furniture, playsets and even her extraordinary three-level townhouse, when Sindy’s US company Marx went bankrupt, so she too had her own ‘world!’ In an interview on the Mego Museum website, it was noted that she was apparently a huge success for the company the few years she was on sale.

She has one of those very odd clone-ish bodies with wire in her very light, hollow plastic legs that make them bend in very bizarre ways, (no ‘click-click’ here! LOL) but IMO she has one of the most beautiful face sculpts that Mego had ever produced, and one of the most sophisticated faces out of all the fashion dolls of that period. She reminds me a little of an American model who was my favourite back then named Kelli Wynn, who was the face of Elizabeth Arden in the very early 80’s, though Kelli was a brunette, so I am tempted to change her hair colour to see the resemblance! As you can see, she came complete in her box with the instructions, booklet, sponge applicator (with the sponges all still intact!!!) and her ‘hair makeup’ kit, which is also intact. I also love the cut-out pattern for her hair salon-style cover-up! I had the 18-inch version of this gal as a kid and loved her (she also came with makeup, and a very scary stencil mask so you could apply her makeup accurately! LOL) so it was great to get the classic 11 ½ inch fashion doll size of her! Her face has faded just a tad, but that HAIR!!! So incredibly lush, thick, silky and, just like Darci’s, incredibly easy to style. I also love that very Disco side-tied tunic and shimmery Lycra leggings, with those wedge heels! I also have some favourite NRFB fashions for her on their way soon, (and a clone sister from the early 80’s that used the same moulds after Candi departed the fashion doll world) so stay tuned!
