When I was shooting a couple on the steps of the Philly Art Museum last week, this young man near us proposed to his girlfriend and when she said yes, he pulled a Rocky Balboa! (I was half tempted to give them my business card.)
When my youngest son (Cameron) asked me to help him pull off an epic marriage proposal to his girlfriend (Kenzie), of course I was ALL IN!!!
He painted the proposal on 25 king size bed sheets that were staked to the ground which we then just "happened" to fly over while taking her on her first flight in a small airplane!
I created a video of the event and posted it on YouTube HERE
I don't think either one of them will be forgetting the details of that day any time soon! ;-) Congrats Cameron & Kenzie!
The Bow Bridge, Central Park, NYC, links "Cherry Hill" with the park woodlands area known as "The Ramble." The Bow Bridge has served as a location for multiple romantic settings, including scenes in at least three well-known movies, "Autumn in New York," a 2000 romantic drama, starring Richard Gere and Rinona Ryder, "Uptown Girls," a 2003 comedy starring Brittany Murphy; Dakota Fanning; and Heather Locklear and "Keeping the Faith," a 2000 romantic comedy, starring Ben Stiller; Ed Norton and Jenna Elfman.
The Bow Bridge, which is the first cast-iron bridge in Central Park, and the 2nd oldest cast-iron bridge in the USA, has served as a 'romantic' setting for many couples at the time of their proposed engagement to one another. The bridge was named for its bow shape, similar to that of an archer or violinist.
Exactly 43 years ago today, February 12, 1971, at the Friday Happy Hour of the Hall of Graduate Studies at Yale University, I met Amanda Correa for the first time. I entered the room with some of my friends, which adjoined the hall where we normally ate our meals. It was "Surf and Turf" night, where we enjoyed steak and lobster (It was Yale after all), so the room was full. She was wearing a long, grey dress that clung to her shape, and a rust-colored wool-lined coat. Oddly, she was sitting on a table near the back of the room facing the wall, and looked like she was totally bored. She had come with a friend who I did not notice despite her heavy makeup and brassy look. Mandy wore no makeup. She was as always, completely natural. As luck would have it, no one else noticed that she was there. I noticed. I walked up to her, not more than two feet from her face, lifted her chin, and asked her to join me for dinner. She smiled and said yes. Fortune smiled upon me that day, and every day hence.
I asked her to marry me at the Yale Ski Lodge in Vermont two weeks later. We skied that day at Bromley, which is near to Mt. Snow. Here is a photo of the Bromley Ski Lodge.

Marriage proposal seen on a rooftop via Google Maps.
I mentioned this along with a few more marriage proposals seen elsewhere via other satellite or aerial photos in my blog article about some of my comments on rooftop ads, and the recent interview with me in a USAToday article.

There was some engineering involved to get the balance right - I shifted the centre of gravity back a bit, and gave the mouse longer arms than usual, strengthened with wire armature which runs through the body in one continuous piece. Hope she says yes!
Earl never was much of a speller, but he is a hopeless romantic...
It does make you wonder what proposal ideas didn't make the cut?

The way to a man's heart!

Here is the scrumptious dinner that Jody made to celebrate getting engaged. It contains all my favourite things β dips, cheese, ham and bread (yes I know I am bland!) along with artichoke hearts (romance), sweet peas (my nickname for Jody) and lovingly carved heart shaped carrots (for wuv!)

These candid marriage proposal photos were taken in New York Cityβs Central Park at the Wollman ice skating rink. We were hired by Steven, the groom, to take photos and video without being noticed by his girlfriend. He specifically requested that we focus on his girlfriend to capture her facial expressions and reaction to his special marriage proposal. Steven later gave her the photos and video as a Christmas gift. See the Video here: Central Park Marriage Proposal Video
