These days Flickr is very slow and many times down ... so sorry dear friends for some delay in groups, comments and challenges !
Light filtering through the hat draws its own geometry. No expression, no movement—just patterns tracing a silent presence. A still face, profiled by the sun.

Many of you will remember the Cheshire cat character from Lewis Carroll's novel "Alice in Wonderland." He would appear and disappear in front of Alice's eyes at will, frequently leaving only his smile behind. An unforgettable magical being, who has remained with me since childhood. In life, when I encounter someone or something has a tendency to appear or disappear, the Cheshire cat always comes to mind.
Today was a red-letter day in terms of my kindle-facilitated photography. And this shot was the last one I took of a bevy of mannequins in the window of a local clothing store. There had been a dramatic downpour of rain that began just as I was making my first shots. I continued shooting through the rain storm, thanks to the protective awning, which I and several other neighbors were most thankful for. The rain ended and I was still shooting away happily. The employees--and even the boss, who is an acquaintance of mine--began to bring the outdoor clothing display indoors, and I was still busy as a bee.
I spoke to one of the women involved in the end-of-day activities, and asked her who created the mannequin window (and outdoor) displays. She said she did, and I found out her name is Flor ("flower" in English). A perfect name for such an artist! I began piling on the praise, telling her how much I love her work. Indicating this mannequin, I exclaimed, "¡Pero esto es arte--está bailando flamenco!" (But this is art--she's dancing flamenco!) She was pleased, but rather astonished by my enthusiasm. The group was just about to lock up the store, so they turned out the lights in the window.
That's when it happened: this dancing mannequin "faded" into the reflection of the pale brick building across the street. I made the shot and here she is, in all her "Cheshire" glory, disappearing from view in front of our very eyes!
