The Moon has phases because it orbits Earth, which causes the portion we see illuminated to change. The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit Earth, but the lunar phase cycle (from new Moon to new Moon) is 29.5 days. The Moon spends the extra 2.2 days "catching up" because Earth travels about 45 million miles around the Sun during the time the Moon completes one orbit around Earth.

Waxing gibbous
Visible: 69% ↑
Age: 9 days
What is a waxing gibbous moon? The waxing gibbous moon, is defined to occur when the Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight. Because the fraction of the Moon’s disk that is illuminated is increasing, we consider the Moon to be “waxing.” Each new lunar cycle is measured beginning at each new moon and the waxing crescent moon occurs when the Moon is more than one-quarter but less than one-half of the way around the sky (i.e., along its orbit) from new moon.
For fun, took 20 shots of the moon at 200mm using a Canon 600D and a Canon F4 IS L 70-200mm Zoom lens. Processed the images in PIPP, to center and crop them and convert them to 20 tiffs, then stacked the result using Autostakkert. Pleased with the result.

Werewolves, also known as lycanthropes or wolfmen, are mythological humans with the ability to shapeshift into wolves or wolflike creatures, either purposely, being bitten by a another werewolf or after being placed under a curse.
The medieval chronicler Gervase of Tilbury associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon; however, there is evidence that the association existed among the ancient Greeks, appearing in the writings of Petronius. This concept was rarely associated with the werewolf until the idea was picked up by Gervase. Shape-shifters similar to werewolves are common in tales from all over the world, though most of them involve animal forms other than wolves.
Interesting description about werewolves in wikipedia.
