Old buildings and a motionless Union Jack flag on a warm summer's evening in London. Photo taken in August 2016.
Architecture – Modern
This is another collection of buildings (some as photographed), glass panels, abstract shapes formed from buildings. Most are in London, although they could be any city. I have not named any building, nor have attempted to find Architects or Designers. I have just altered things to my own taste, nothing is sacrosanct, nothing lasts for ever, new ideas quickly become old as will these images be the moment I post them. Please enjoy.

The future of this beautiful old part of Woolwich is still unclear. The cobbled streets alone is surely enough to treasure & protect? Mortgramit square, Woolwich, South East London.
This is a landscape version of my square photo called 'Simple Abstract 75'.
This image is looking up at balconies of Wardian London, one of two similar towers in Canary Wharf, East London, using intentional camera movement. The architects are Glenn Howells.
I like to think this photo has the feel of a scientific abstract image taken by the great photographer Berenice Abbott (1898 to 1991).

Modern Architecture at Canary Wharf… and yes I know that I’ve taken this view before. But whilst it may be the same it is different. It’s got a bit more colour for one. And I don’t seem to take many photos nowadays, and post even fewer.
And might not for some time. Happy Tier 4.
Thanks for all views, comments and favs. They are always much appreciated.

Michelin House – 81 Fulham Road, Chelsea, LONDON SW3 6RD
The House was constructed in the late 1900s – 1910 and was opened for business on the 20th January 1911. Designed by Francois Espinasse (1880 – 1925). He was one of Michelin’s employees. Espinasse was an engineer working for the HQ in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Little is known of him and his work.
The Michelin House has 3 large stained-glass windows depicting the Michelin Man (Bibendum). It is made up of many panels of decorative tiles, some with just flowery designs, others with a bike (1890’s) and cars of the turn of the 20th century. The windows were taken out and removed to Stoke-on-Trent for safe keeping, however these went missing and after much searching, suppliers were found and replicas were made. In 2011 the building marked its centenary and as a result the company renewed its efforts to trace the original stained glass. A amnesty website and hotline was set up but I have no idea if it was fruitful. There are two glass tyre like constructions on the roof plus other decoration, these also disappeared.
Michelin moved from the location in 1985 and it was purchased by Paul Hamlyn (publisher) and Sir Terrence Conran who embarked on major development and restoration turning into offices for Octopus Publishing, a restaurant and oyster bar and a Conran shop all opened in 1985.
Definitely worth a visit and although we visited Friday 7th July, I wasn’t fortunate enough to see the whole building in it glory. The only downside was that is on a busy thoroughfare and it’s not easy to get the whole shot of the building without the steady stream of traffic.
Holborn Tower, a modernist building in Central London.

Another photo looking up at the curvaceous balconies of the 'Riverwalk' apartments, overlooking the River Thames at Westminster, in London.
Architects: Stanton Williams.
Looking up at a recently built structure, St James's Market, Central London. Architects: Make Architects. This development was RIBA London Award winner in 2018.
Looking up at Prospect Place, Battersea, London. Architect: Frank Gehry/Gehry Partners. This is his first residential building in the United Kingdom. Completed 2022.
The Shock of the New
This is another series of images, Here I’m showing how Modern Architecture has embedded itself with the more Traditional Architectural styles. Some successful, some in my view not so. But we’re all different. You may like them. What It does tell you however, is that progress cannot be stopped. There are forces greater than you out there.
Another iintentional camera movement photo looking up at the Madison building in London’s docklands. The advertising tag line for this structure is ‘iconic design that creates motion’. Designed by Make Architects.
It is probably a coincidence but 'It's Madison Time' was a popular dance song by The Ray Bryant Combo from the late 1950s/early 1960s. This spawned the Madison craze, which is still a popular line dance. I still own the record bought by my father in the early 1960s. The song and dance was made popular again in John Waters' movie, 'Hairspray'.
