This photo is looking back where we came. The road is visible winding its way through the high (11800') meadow.
This photo appeared in the following ideotrope albums:
Ashcroft to Crested Butte and back - Cher, Bill, and I left Boulder Saturday morning around 4 and drove to Ashcroft. A number of others, including Christie, Logan, and Karl, drove to Crested Butte the evening before. We were able to send camping gear around with them. We didn't start riding 'til around 9 Saturday morning, but the weather forecast was good.
We rode the famous and popular Pearl Pass. We came up with a few reasons why it's famous and popular:
it's high; at 12705' I've only ridden one pass that's higher (Imogene - 13114') and I can only think of two others in Coloroado that are higher than those two (Argentine - 13132' and Mosquito - 13186')
it hosts the oldest mountain bike event in the world, started in 1976
it's drivable so many more people have been over it than the (we found out later) far better Star Pass and Taylor Pass route
The ride is brutal. It was continuously steep from the Ashcroft side and very rocky in sections. We walked a lot. Then we crested the pass and walked a lot on the way down.
Exhausted from the ride, I was happy to have a fairly short ride for our rest day in Crested Butte. We car-shuttled our bikes up to Schofield Pass (10707') and rode the classic 401 Trail mostly downhill to where we had cold drinks waiting. Karl hitch-hiked up the pass to retrieve the other car while the rest of us enjoyed beer and wine in the shade.
Stubborn as we are, we stuck with Monday's plan to ride back to Ashcroft. Really, we didn't have a choice. It was the only logical way to get back to the car we left in Ashcroft. Bill drove back since he had to work, and under-employed Karl took his place. The weather forecast wasn't great so we snuck out of Crested Butte a little before 6 in the pre-dawn darkness.
The Star Pass (12300') Taylor Pass (11928') route ended up (as shown in the photos) being phonomenal. There's a lot of singletrack, almost the whole route is ridable, and it stays up high for a long, beautiful section between the two passes. I'd like to do that ride again in both directions.
The logical conclusion was given that this was not a simple haemorrhage, and a differential diagnosis of vascular anomaly or (less likely) tumour was offered.
While a vascular anomaly can give this appearance, it would most likely be a cavernous angioma rather than a capillary haemangioma, which is a rare lesion that, in the CNS, occurs mostly in the spine. The reporting radiologist may have meant a capillary telangiectasia, but these are mostly in the brainstem and are rarely if ever visible at CT imaging. The suggestion of a neoplasm (even as a "less likely" diagnosis) was probably not warranted by the appearance and stability of the lesion, especially in the absence of any clinical concern or relevant provided history.

Just an experiment. I think this has far more information than tourists on the Cable Car need. I wanted to show how the F-line could be integrated since my wife is always saying "there's also the street car..." to befuddled tourists. After staring at it for a few days, it does appear to have value as a "Market Street Railway" map for tourists.
The Exploratorium's new location on Pier 15 and the Railway Museum are called out to advertise/promote them, as they are not yet popular tourist destinations. Note that the Railway Museum is physically across the street from the Ferry Building which highlights the logical nature of the map. "Union Square" being represented as a square (and consuming the entire FiDi!) is just a happy coincidence.
This also emphasizes the lie present on the Cable Car-only map that the Powell-Mason line "takes you" to Pier 39. It doesn't, but when tourists ask "Does this go to Fisherman's Wharf?" the easiest answer is that the P-M goes to the East end, the P-H goes to the West end. This map is therefore more accurate for getting around using the whole system, but less useful when navigating via Cable Car.
See the next image in the stream for a "future" version including the E-Line.

Math Lessons to Build Kids’ Cognitive and Reasoning Skills
How Can Math Lessons Nurture Kids’ Logical and Intellectual Capabilities?
For children to grow up learning how to express and communicate effectively, they must learn and experience how to deliver their thoughts clearly, think critically, and satisfy their curiosity as they develop as a person.
Integrating these in education such as math lessons—already a generally challenging subject—through activities that stimulate the mind will increase their abilities and shape their character especially when supported by their loving parents.
Here are a few straightforward and effective ways math lessons can boost your child's cognitive and critical thinking skills:
1. Encourage your child to answer problems on their own
Give leeway for intellectual freedom by stepping back so they could analyze and figure out multiple solutions to solve challenges by themselves. This will practice logical thinking abilities so they can grow to be assertive and quick problem solvers.
2. Motivate them to think outside the box and be creative
Ask leading questions starting with: “what if” or “how about.” Not only will this build their empathy by
imagining themselves in other people’s shoes and situations but also gain foresight—to think of multiple possible outcomes from one scenario.
3. Gamify their math exercises
Try to look for creative mind puzzles or visual game exercises and play them together! If done continuously, their minds can get used to critical thinking—a skill crucial for children to grow with better situational awareness and analysis of cause and effect.
4. Keep your child physically active
Get them moving! Even stretching, casually dancing to music, or a simple exercise routine after class will contribute to a positive mental state. Getting physically active will also induce body chemicals that trigger an optimistic and energizing outlook on life.
5. Make learning comfortable and unintimidating
Create a positive learning experience under a stress-free environment so they could focus on learning effectively without tension or misguided expectations. This is a practice Izumi’s teachers emulate— patiently guiding and motivating students to perform their best and excel.
