Just noticed I forgot to upload these.

This was the first gentleman to enter on to the mat - one of the Generals from Washington & Lee University.

Once again, I didn’t make it to midnight. My 20-year old sister didn’t make it either (in fact, she caved first!) so that makes me feel a little better. These photos were taken many hours before the new year, when the sun and I (and my sis) were still awake.

This car competed in two races at the Aston Martin Owners Club's Autumn Historic Car Races meeting at Oulton Park in September 1993. Described in the programme of the event as Allen Lloyd's 4.2 litre 1964 Jaguar E-Type, it has the looks of one of the 12 Lightweight competition models built in the 1960s, but I can't find anything to confirm that this is a genuine Lightweight. Eighteen chassis numbers were set aside in 1963 for the Lightweight models, but only 12 were built - the six additional cars were eventually built in 2014-15. Allen Lloyd was at one time President of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.

One of the original Derby Lightweight single car DMU's survived into departmental service as TestCoach Iris. For many years it was in departmental Red & Blue livery but towards the end of its service was repainted into BR Green. Here Iris stands at Waterloo.

This was my second system for Kite Aerial Photography. Simple, lightweight but versatile and dependable. I used it (and I still use) with many different cameras. This rig has just a Picavet suspension (using an aluminum cross and plastic pulleys) and the head of a small tripod. It's the kind of setup I'd recommend for a novice KAPer to start with (and for a seasoned KAPer to have as a backup).

DVLA says first registered in 1984, presumably when it was sold off by the MoD.

I did a solo overnight photo trip into the mountains this past weekend. Here is my very lightweight setup for my 4x5 camera. I wanted to get it as light as possible. You’ll notice that the head of the tripod is missing. My camera has two tripod holes, I can screw the camera directly into the base to save a lot of weight. The adjustments are a bit more difficult, but manageable.

I also used clothing I was already bringing to substitute for the darkcloth. I ended up using running tights and a zip sweater to get it dark enough. You’d think I’d leave the Dust-Off behind. The nature of the large format beast necessitates that I drag along something to deal with the dust. It gets bad and it almost always gravitates to the film plane. Plus, you can turn it upside down and kill mosquitoes with the frozen propellant!

Bedfords weren't the usual choice for NBC operators, the lightweight chassis usually being the preserve of small independant fleets. However, OYU576R was one of four Duple bodied Bedford YMTs in the National Travel South east fleet that were used on National Express work in the 1970s.

The Busch & Müller Eyc-T is a fantastic little dynamo head light. I was pleased to find out that the body is alloy. Now considering painting or polishing on future builds.

Not ultalight by any means. I'm too much of a comfort hound, but this is about what a long weekend pack would look like for me. This pack is assuming that I'll be in or near water the entire time. I'll try to tag it up explaining what each piece is. What's not pictured here is that my Leatherman Skeletool and my Garmin GPS and/or a map. I also typically have a copy of A Comprehensive Guide to Wilderness Medicine stashed somewhere in my bags. Some of this gear is in my pockets, strapped to my belt or in a hiking vest. The idea is that if I lose my backpack, I'll still be ok with what's on my person. I've learned the hard way not to walk away from camp, no matter how short a distance, without having enough on you to spend the night away from camp in an emergency. You may never need it, but that one time you do, you'll be sad if you don't have it.
