My husband, the fire chief, and I were sitting on a hill watching the storm. Every once in awhile you get lucky and you catch something crazy.

Storm watching in Beaver County Oklahoma

A few good rounds of lightning. I don't use a trigger, just a self timer and some luck. I missed the best lightning of the night by about one second.

One single photo cropped in photoshop to get rid of the junk I did not notice in the foreground.

Wow! An unpatched Conrail locomotive! :D

A Norfolk Southern helper behind a Conrail SD60M locomotive both lead the front of a slow moving Norfolk Southern train. My friend, Sam (who moved away to another town in Illinois kind of far from Edwardsville the day after this bike ride. The reason we did the ride was because he was moving.) We had to wait almost 2 hours for this train, which is unusually long for this particular railroad line. We think that there must have been something wrong with the tracks, like a damage delay, which is why there was such a long time that we had to wait, because usually trains come through on this line once every hour (and many times even more frequently than that!)

I was watching the sky last night and it was just like pink cotton candy, so I hopped into my car and went to a usual place along Pat Bay with my camera - got behind a VERY slow moving vehicle and missed the best part of the sunset. The parking lot and roadway were packed, I have never seen it so crowed before. I decided to stay and found a spot that I could perch my tripod and not be in anyones way or too close to anyone.

Looking across the bay it looked like there was huge rain falling, then all of a sudden there was lightning - well that was enough to convince me to stay and watch the show - and attempt to capture lightning on my camera! Played with a few settings and out of pure luck I was able to capture a couple of strikes.

I found it very interesting that the reflections in the water did not match - more of just a light streak - and they were that way for all of them.

So... I was so hoping that Old Faithful would be erupting when a lightning bolt shot out of the sky, but of course the timing was all wrong and I never did get 'the pic'. With the magic of photo editing (no, I did not use photoshop) I can cheat a little :) I blended 2 images together and I was finally able to get the pic that I was hoping for :) Below is one of the images I used for the lightning bolt, you can see that Old Faithful finished erupting and 'THEN' the lightning bolt happens...geesh!

A love a rainy night. I love a stormy sky. But I really love when the lightning lights up the night.

For the moment the sea is very calm. But the vedette returns quickly to the port before the storm breaks out violently!

Some stormy conditions at Bryce Canyon last month produced a number of great lightning bolts! This was one of my favorite shots as the bolt dropped in the darkest part of the sky. One of the challenges with daytime lightning is that bolts can be very difficult to see when the sky is too bright. This was definitely a lucky capture!

Texas Thunderstorm September 2021

Lots of rain with the storm, so the photo is not as sharp as I would have liked. Shot from within my truck too, which was quite a challenge setting up the tripod. Lots of rain drenched the passenger seat, lol.

The monsoons have taken it up a notch in the last week and we were able to take a quick trip out a few nights ago to take some shots of the storm. We're hoping for some more storm action this week as hurricanes start picking up steam in the Pacific!

The first lightning storm I experienced when I lived in Transylvania, was also the best of my three-and-a-half year stay there.

The storm formed in an environment with strong vertical windshear and continued for hours with great CG lightning displays.

The photograph is from the early morning at the back side of the storm.

Unfortunately I had my camera-settings wrong and I shot it handheld, but nonetheless it's a nice image....

Dos años hace de mi primera y última foto a un rayo. Desde entonces he estado fotiando cada tormenta. Tengo más fotos del Reina Felicia que de mis gatas. Pero ayer me volvió a sonreir la suerte. ¡Lo cacé!

The City was Live Tonight!~

Btw,

This is Very Real.

Follow Me..

A huge lightning bolt over the ocean past Newport and Huntington beaches. Very unusual weather for us! The three lit structures in the background are oil drilling islands off the coast. The huge bolt of lightning, well beyond the oil islands, ends at the horizon.

Ok, not the best...but I still love it! My very first lightning shot. *yay*

I actually didn't have my tripod with me. (bummer). When I did find it, a piece was missing....ughhh!! (Gotta find it!)

Anyways, we had a really nice light show Friday night. We had a thunderstorm pass through.

Was out taking photos of lightning and a bull hauler drove through my photo. He honked as he went by. It almost made up for the fact we only got a few sprinkles of rain.

Small thunderstorm cell from last night, there were some very nice and powerful flashes to see.

Taken from a passing storm cell in Poole bay,

Just like one week ago, isolated thunderstorms over the North Sea produced awesome lightning strikes.

Here a large CA (Cloud-Air) discharge jumps out of the top of the storm into the free atmosphere. Perhaps the charge difference was not large enough for a strike into the surface of the earth.

The cattle got quite a light show on this particular night.

Hope your week started on a good note? Last week while trying to capture some images downtown after the sunset a small summer storm cell was rushing trough the city. My wife saw that because I wasn’t paying attention to much after I got my shot at the previous location. After she caught it we rushed to this overlook to try and capture it. She is the one tha managed to capture the short video as well. You might know this but sometimes during hot summer nights we get “heat lightning” that can look awesome but can be challenging to capture! This is a blend of half an hour worth of flashes. What do you think?

I was out shooting the big storm that rolled through Brampton the other night... This is the train station in downtown Brampton.. with some luck the lightning strike came at the perfect spot..

Out in southern New Jersey for a series of cells that moved through in the evening and during the overnight.

Developing storms over western Belgium looked promising, so we gave it a try and drove to the southwestern part of the Netherlands.

The lightning in the province of Zeeland was dissapointing, to say the least. However, just to our east storms became way more active and we captured this shot on a parking place near Roosendaal (Noord-Brabant).

This was just around midnight. The next hours we kept chasing these storms all the way to the vicinity of Utrecht. We only stopped when daylight returned.

For me one of the best lightning chases in The Low Countries.....
