Lightning bolt captured with the chdk motion detect script.
This wasn't really what I was going for - the tripod somehow fell over without me noticing. But it's kind of interesting anyway.

A line of storms produced a lightning barrage near the city of Lelystad, with many, many branched CG's (Cloud-Ground discharges).
I used Kodachrome-64 slide film with an aperature of f/8 and an exposure of 15 seconds.

Date night with my husband! Storm spotting is part of being fire chief and part of being fire chief's wife is "helping". Does proving what we see count as helping? He's my spotter and the calm to my storm when the lightning doesn't happen in the direction I am aimed.

Watching from the beach as a severe storm passed to the north of us throwing out huge bolts of lightning. This was one of many beautiful bolts I captured.
Wasn't an epic storm but it was moisture and we were thankful for the rain. We were also thankful that the lightning didn't start any fires. I love a good thunderstorm. I love to hear the rumble of the thunder as the lightning lights up the sky. I would prefer those storms happen in the late evening or dark hours as they are easier to photograph but this year, nobody could complain, no matter what time the storms came.

On the night of May 14th, 2018, a severe thunderstorm rolls past the southern edge of DeKalb County. As is my luck in such matters, I missed 5 or 6 fantastic lightning bolts by just a half second or less. However, I was able to capture two. This is the best of the two. It's not exactly the sharpest image, as it occured while I was still perfecting my settings and setup, and I was being buffeted by outflow winds from the storms. For the first lightning capture of the year, I will take it.

We've had a several nights of lightning with little rain. In the drought, it is worrisome when this happens.
Years ago, I was dispatching for a Sheriff's Office and we had a night of dry lightning fires. We had 10+ departments fightning 10 fires in different locations across our county of 1818 square miles. It is a night I will never forget.

We sat on the county road awaiting the storm. It was approximately 30 miles away at the time of this photo. We ended up at a vehicle fire instead and missed the few bolts of lightning that happened near us.

Last night poole and the south coast of england was hit by one of the best lightning strom in years. I was out for the sunset and it should of hit by then, It was not till around 1130pm the light show started and it was a trip to the cliff tops to see what i could capture. I did manage two nice bolts before the rain put a halt to any more captures. Sat in the car with wind and rain hamming and then the hail started as well. After 20mins it clear and the moon and stars started to light up the sky. In all it was a wicked 20 mins.
A very nasty thunderstorm over Winston-Salem, North Carolina on 16 May 2023. It blew down several trees and caused numerous power outages.
