After chasing a small storm front to about 20 miles north of our house, we found a safe place to snap some shots. The lightning was pretty sweet even though it was somewhat tapering off by the time we got setup. I was still able to get some good ones. I love the intricate details of the lines from the lightning. I thought this closeup helps show that detail first-hand.
City lights of Phoenix Arizona with a monsoon lightning thunderstorm creating some action. A cloud to ground strike hitting a transformer making for a big spark in the city. This can be a common sight when out chasing storms. There is also a big green glow ball that is pretty cool. This is from a 2006 storm chase taken with my canon 20D. (I hated that camera) I was very happy when I upgraded it.. Anyway this is a reject from that shoot that I never put out. Not sure what the swirls are in the sky, call it art :-) . I love going back and working the files cause I always leave a few images behind. When you go back they look fresh and are fun to process.
This spring will be year 30 chasing lightning thunderstorms.
Hope you enjoy.

I spent the weekend in atlanta with my family, so tons of photos from that are forthcoming
but for now, have this, which I took on the flight home to nyc
I am SO PLEASED I have always wanted to capture lightning in a photograph and now I have!!
While on holiday in Florida recently i was lucky enough to witness a stunning lightning storm directly opposite where i was staying. Thankfully i had decided to bring my tripod on holiday too so spent the next hour or so attempting to capture the strikes.
On the last day I visited Arches National Park in Utah a thunderstorm popped up just as I was preparing to capture the sunset from the windows area of the park. Since I was already setup, I decided to put the rain cover on my camera and take my chances with the thunderstorm and here's the result :)
I didn't use a lightning trigger, I just set my camera to take continuous photos every 3 seconds and waited to get lucky.
If you liked this image check out the rest of my work at www.sgarciarill.com.
Please don't use any of my photos without permission (I'm very accessible if you ask first).
Matthew 1:20... and Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. NIV

Two bolts of lightning connect the heavens and earth as an electrically charged storm moves towards Winfield from the north.
A powerful electrical storm sizzled and thundered across Goulburn just after 11 pm this evening. I tried a few shots, but after this first and last lightning in the lens I bolted back inside. That was way too close!

I got startled when I got the cake from the fridge after it had been out a site for a bit. I guess I forgot what it exactly looked like....do you find Lightning-Mater looking a little sinister ; ) I think it's that cocked eye and that curled up lip....lol

"G. C. Liesenberg, B.O. Box 48, Empangeni, Zululand, S. Africa. Photo by H. Duncan Abraham, P.O. Box 1699, Durban."
A photographic QSL card from 1939 that provided G. C. Liesenberg's old radio call sign--exZT5F--as well as his new one--ZS5AW. The writing on what was intended to look like an oversized QSL card that Liesenberg's holding is an acknowledgement that he made contact with another radio operator on January 14, 1939. I like how his kid is pretending to turn one of the dials on the radio.

Out in southern New Jersey for a series of cells that moved through in the evening and during the overnight.
Lighting thunderstorm extravaganza above and striking the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains in North Boulder County, view west across McIntosh Lake in Longmont . It was an incredible night of lightning strikes. It was a very special night for me as it was the one year anniversary of my fathers passing so I felt he was up there putting on the show for me. Thanks Dad! This is one exposure. Here are the setting ISO 200 - 15 sec - f7.1 - 90mm - 08-05-2019 10:42pm

This incoming late night storm had some vivid frequent lightning just to the south of me over the Philadelphia Center City area - moving north into my area. But quickly fizzled out as if someone flicked a light switch!
It's about 10:00 pm, and I decide to take one last look outside when the sky started to light up. The sky was lighting up the sky pretty good with big inter-cloud burst. This was the first stop on my storm chase. Big massive storm clouds moving very fast. At this point the lightning strikes were cloud to cloud and inter- cloud. Here is a good example of the monster thunderstorm above me with the bolt just peeking out the center of the storm.

A ticket for a Halloween party at a country club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1937. Landis Art Press (formerly Pluck Art Printery) printed the ticket.
The moon-face-with-thunderbolts character (for lack of a better name) at top left and right was part of a Protean Ornaments series designed by Charles E. Heyer for Barnhart Brothers & Spindler, patent no. D0018285, dated May 1, 1888 (see A Database of American Typeface Design Patents, 1842-1899).
Landis Art Press also used the moon face with thunderbolts on other Halloween tickets. See, for instance, the following:
-- Sophomore Barn Party Ticket, East Petersburg, Pa., October 27, 1920
-- Hell'o'een Masked Dance Ticket, Lancaster, Pa., October 29, 1920
