Electrical storms over Hong Kong at the start of summer are always spectacular. The storms are nearly always accompanied by rainstorm warning signals. The signals are used in Hong Kong to alert the public about the occurrence of heavy rain which is likely to bring about major disruptions such as traffic congestion and floods.

When I got off work on this night the sky was filled with lightning. I had to go home and get my camera and by the time I got down to the riverfront the lightning had all but stopped. I waited patiently snapping one after another. Then.. out of nowhere came one random bolt. It was barely in the frame but I got it. I stayed another 30 minutes or so but nothing else happened. Not sure where this one came from but I'm glad it appeared.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

We were run right over by this fast moving shelf cloud on May 24th, 2018 outside WaKeeney, Kansas on a day where I thought I wouldn't even get to use my camera as storms kept dying out early. I have a few shots of it spitting out CGs that I'll likely post in the near future as well.

This crazy bolt landed not far from us, shot with a wide angle at 28mm, out near Safford, Arizona. The monsoon has begun.

A shot of last nights storm that rolled through the area. Produced some nice bolts of lighting. Most of which I missed but I did get this one. My girlfriend was in the other room getting some lightning shots as well. She caught the same bolt from a different window you can check it out here www.flickr.com/photos/elyssawalter/14251524291/

Tonight it was Mother Nature steeling the show completely. It just couldn't be missed or overlooked. Oh boy, I've got a great series out of this thunderfest! I knew it was coming and I waited for these moment whole day long. Pure excitement and pure visual violence as storm gathered overhead, sideways and in front or me. No shelter in these open fields but the car, which is quite typical in this part of the Netherlands. Multiple exposure times were made, varying from 10 to 100 seconds, and most of them are filled with big fat lightening bolts.

However, the excitement changed into the urge for precaution because this stuff should be taken seriously. More so because I heard on the radio that a woman got struck and killed by lightning of today. For this reason I want to dedicate this one to her and her family.

Also I guess I saw some shorter form of a ball lightning this evening, but I'm not sure because I have no reference, unfortunately. I guess that would be the ultimate goal to capture such a scarce event. The only reference of a ball lightning - or fireballs if you like - I know came from a a student back in 1987. However, I've heard and seen several stories along with some evidence of fireballs entering houses, schools and churches and craters in gardens caused by this yet unknown event.

Anyway, if you ever decide to go outside shooting lightning, here's an informative site about 1.21 Gigawatts!": The Real Facts About Lightning

The Top End's storms are a sight to behold! The sky electrifies as lightning bolts dance above the serene waters of the Mary River floodplain. This dramatic sunset storm in the Top End showcases the awe-inspiring forces of nature at their best.

More purists!

The young justice series just got available on the swedish netflix so I decided to celebrate that by making some purists.

Gosh I hope lego starts releasing more of these characters. Just give us atleast one set or cmf series based on young justice...

Miss Martian: I really need to get a better head but I am really happy with that torso.

Superboy: just the official

Robin: Felt lazy I just swapped his hair and legs. There are some really great legs from some surfer or diver that looks spot on that I need to get and of course switch the arms.

Aqualad: The only part I am ify about is the torso :/.

Kid flash: This is probably the most controversial of the combos since I used a parademon head. I actually think it looks quite good. It matches with the catman torso which kind of has the lightningbolt on it and it has red googles like he has in the show. The downside of course would be the big grin, the sharp teeth and the wrinkly gray skin.

Artemis: Probably the most difficult of them to make a purist of. Aside from the skincolor being a bit dark I really like the new batfangirl face for her. The body is trickier. I think what I used works but I am really curious to see how the new classic green arrow body looks on her. Haven't got that yet tho.

Lightning Storm at Mono Lake

On August 16th, dry lightning sparked numerous fires in California. Claudia and I watched one of those fires start near Mono Lake, and later I photographed this lightning strike over the lake at sunset. You can read the whole story and see more photos on my blog:

From 2018, upslope flow was responsible for a supercell forming, coming off the mountains, and into Santa Rosa, NM. It was a prolific lightning producer for a short while. Not bad for a marginal day.

Large bolt from a very lightning active, but short lived summer storm on Tasmania's east coast.

It was a hot sultry day yesterday and there was a massive storm cell brewing out west (Queensland) that I completely unaware of. To be fair, I was cooling off in our pool as it seemed the best course of action all things considered.

After emerging from the pool, I had a look at the radar images to discover a monster storm cell heading our way. So down to Woody Point I trot. When I got there the lights of Brisbane and the Port of Brisbane area were as bright as a Xmas tree under a looming beast.

Within minutes it was like somebody pulled the plug on the city and it went pitch black. The rain was that intense. Then seconds later whoosh! Rain rain and more rain, thunder lightning blah blah blah. It is fair to say, I got a tad wet during this event and so did my gear, but I'm pleased to say the weather sealing did its job perfectly, well done to Nikon. Happy with this massive bolt...

Oh look what I found in the 2017 archive.... not as good as the big daddy shot of the day.

Nature, flexing her muscles. We rarely see big thunderstorms like this in norway, i guess this one formed due to the unusually warm weather we´ve been having lately. The pouring rain and thunderclaps woke me up, so i grabbed my gear, and ran to a lookoutpoint near my home. Glad i did, these are my first lightningshots, and they turned out quite alright no?

Check exif for shoot details. This one is more blue because of the shorter exposure time, only 7 seconds, so less of the ambient light gets registered.

Monsoon season was rough this year...

My first Lake Michigan storm of the season did not disappoint! A few lightning bolts and the traditional getting drenched by rain!
