worked a catered event for Burr Forman the other week - my desserts were spread out in 3 conference rooms. it was on the top floor of the Wachovia Bank building downtown with spectacular city views all around! i so rarely get to see the "finished product" so it was fun to see it all come together [florals, table arrangement and food] and everything really looked stunning [my point-and-shoot certainly couldn't do it justice].
these are lemon squares, coconut macaroon pyramids and the white pepper shortbread with citrus cream in the background.
He is so excited about his quilt that he did not want to get out of the way while my husband tried to get a picture! He has been involved with the creation of this from the beginning - choosing the fabric online. He's sat with me through much of the cutting and some of the sewing, sandwiching, and binding. He was excited throughout and was pretty patient considering this took me a good three months to finish!
I made this quilt for my 4 year old son. He is SO excited about it, which I am thrilled about because the first quilt I made for him a couple of years ago has sat unused at the bottom of his bed because he has not been a fan of it. I tried to make this one more appealing by picking fabric which is more interesting to him (cars/dog theme), using soft batting with a great drape (quilter's dream), and quilting with straight lines instead of free motion (the free motion and previous batting made his last quilt stiff).
I got this liquidiser with my Kenwood Chef and I've never yet had a chance to use it. The lemon bars recipe recommended by my aunt (as found and baked by my cousin) calls for a liquidised custard topping and so, lo! Liquidiser was unpacked. And there was much glee.

I used a free tutorial from my favorite quilting blog, www.freshlemonsquilts.com. This is the Lemon Squares pattern. I used a combination of patterns and bold solids, and added in a square of just the pattern which the original pattern does not include. I used a warm-warm-cool-cool pattern to create a look that has 2 warm diagonals followed by 2 cool diagonals throughout. I added a white sashing frame to the front to make it a little bigger for the size of his bed.
I'm going to piece the back and quilt this beauty for the Lovely year of finishes link up

These lemon square bars were highly recommended by my aunt, the esteemed baker in the family. They're a sort of solid lemony custard on top of a crumbly shortcake base.

Am I a worthy bearer of the torch?
These sandwiches were cheese, radish, parsley, and vegetable salad.
To the right, you see the "American-style brownies" and the lemon squares, a traditional last-minute filler dessert we do with my mom a lot. (The elegant raised serving dish is actually the lid from our wok with the little handle in the middle balanced in a tea-cup. There was a lot of improvisation for this party.)
i ended up having to leave most of in the hotel room because we were leaving.
