The church in Silver City is locked except for special services (once a month in summer), but a peephole has been placed in the keylock of the double doors to allow for a view inside the church. Here's an HDR view through that peephole to see what's inside.
Oh, the faith - no lock will help, IF there is NO LOVE, PATIENCE, AND MUTUAL help IN the FAMILY...

On a misty, Sunday morning my grandson (22yrs) and I took a bike ride up to Rat Lake from Mill Bay Road at Bamberton, BC (on Vancouver Island).
It was a blast! After an exhilarating bike ride, we put the drone up and got some misty video of the lake from 100ft.
The trail is maintained by the Cowichan Valley Regional District while the land is owned by a logging company. After landing the drone, we rode our bikes up to the lake. The trails are very rough.

If you look closely you will see that the circular Kwikset lock is all scratched up, apparently because people missed the hole with their key. The Schlage combination lock appears to be a recent addition while the Kwikset may well be original with the door. You can also see the dovetails in the wood jam - a nice touch I wouldn't expect to see although it was probably manufactured that way in the first place and is only visible now the wood isn't painted.

The quality of Bokeh of the Zeiss Distagon 21mm ZF is well visible on this picture. I posted this photo for the photo enthusiasts wondering what quality of photo they can enjoy with this great 21mm ZF lens from Zeiss.

For the record, I find the Nikon 14-24mm AF-S f/2.8 just as good in sharpness and more convenient due to zoom and AF, but I like the warmer color cast of the Zeiss lens.
For the story of this "love lock" on the pedestrian bridge please read story of the previous posted photo on flickr.

The Monastery of the Temptation is an Orthodox Christian monastery located in the West Bank, along a cliff overlooking the city of Jericho and the Jordan Valley. It is built upon the summit of the Mount of Temptation, rising 350 meters above sea level. It currently serves as a tourist attraction and its land is under the full jurisdiction of the Palestinian National Authority, but the monastery is owned and managed by the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.

MOORE, L. W., Capt., Gloucester Regt. Studied at Guy's for 3½ years, and on the outbreak of war he enlisted as private in the Gloucestershire Regt. Was quickly promoted to a second lieutenancy. Went to the Front in March, 1915, and served with his regiment until the time of his death, August 29th (sic), 1918.
Lieut. Moore, who was acting Captain of his company, was only 23 years of age last November. He was educated at Tewkesbury Grammar School and King's School, Worcester. Upon the completion of his school career he took up his studies for the medical profession, and was for 3½ years at Guy's Hospital before the outbreak of war, when he at once sought his country's service. For four years he was a member of the local company of Territorials, and whilst in London he joined the medical unit of the London University O.T.C. The Commanding Officer of the latter recommended him for immediate commissioned rank, but he enlisted as a private in his county's regiment, and was quickly promoted to a second lieutenancy October 3rd 1914. He went to the Front in March, 1915, and had served with his regiment until the time of his death. As a youth he was assistant scoutmaster of the 1st Tewksbury Troop of the Boy Scouts."

The trail is maintained by the CVRD while the land is owned by a logging company. It is suggested that you stay on the trail as the area surrounding the hike is being actively logged. The trail is an easy 45 minute hike at a leisurely pace and the views of the lake are quite picturesque especially in the summer when the frogs are singing on the lily-pads.
For about 600 years the sixty to eighty households of Penlline needed to collect their fresh water daily from this group of natural springs. Piped water was not available until 1934. All houses had large cisterns for rainwater and the oldest houses still retain these. There are only two deep dug wells in the Parish and these dry up in summer.
Wellhead No. 1 is likely to have existed from the fourteenth century and Wellhead No. 2 from the sixteenth (note the "Saint's Niche"). Well No. 3 was created in early 1911 to meet the increased use of water for improved standards of hygiene.
The use of the site over this period is attested by the age of the shards of pottery collected when the site was cleaned (over 100 kilograms). It is known that children would spend all day during periods of drought scooping up water in clay cups and filling buckets to minister to parched cattle. This was the only source of dependable water for miles around.
The site is part of the historic Manor lands and in 1883 Doctor William Salmon, who occupied Penlline Court, repaired Wellheads Nos. 1 and 2, paved their frontages and laid out drainage. Thereafter the site became known as Salmons Wells.
After 1940 the cleaning of the wells was abandoned, the site fell into disuse and soon became overgrown with trees.
It was Listed as an Historic Site in April 1998 and has since been archaeologically recorded by some of the village residents through the Residents Association. It has been restored with aid from;-
The Community Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, Prince's Trust and Cadw using the skill of a village stonemason Mr. Brian Keylock.
In search of Rat Lake from the end of Memory Lane (yes, that's the name of the dead-end road).
From Hwy-1 near Mill Bay turn left at Butterfield Rd to Blenko Rd to Memory Lane (yes, that's the name of the dead-end road).
Sunday, after driving from Victoria to Frayne Rd, Mill Bay, my wife sat in Serious Coffee at Hwy-1 while I drove to the Gatewheel Rd. trailhead and hiked the 1460m up to Rat Lake. Lots of walkers out on a Sunday which kept the bears away.
I made a map juxtaposing the two routes through that area that I've travelled recently.
I don't get to shoot bmx that often, but the other day one of my friends invited me to take a few shots... comparing to kiteboarding... it's nice not having to deal with water. hehe
The owner wanted a lock on the back of her doll.
I had to glue the torso together and drilled a hole, so the key can be turned around. The lock didn't fit perfectly as the back is very curvy. Breaking it in three pieces and then repair it again with epoxy and paint.
It was a really fun mod to do and learned a lot from it.
This is a possible mod to the DriveBoard 13.06 for changing the behaviour of the e-stop/keylock interlocks. With it the board will stay powered and only the laser PSU and 24V PSU (steppers) will be powered down.
Clearly a posed shot by the photographer A W Hutton who lived in Old Colwyn. The lady in the Welsh costume may either be Miriam a local girl who in 1934 played at being the Beddgelert station mistress or more likely the photographer's assistant, perhaps his wife? The small boy with the toy engine is alive and well. Thanks to the late John Keylock and the Welsh Highland Railway Heritage Society March 2012 Newsletter for this information.
