Here's a tip for today's assignment.

.

Never feel disappointed again if you get a rainy day of vacation. Dramatic and interesting weather can lead to some of the most interesting shots.

.

Here are a couple things to look for when the weather goes bad.

.

1. Dramatic light through clouds. AKA "God Rays".

.

2. Shimmering reflections after a rainstorm. Just take a look at your next car commercial on TV. They actually will often FAKE wet roads with big water trucks.

.

3. I love to find layers of light and atmosphere during or after a storm. Fog or rain do a great job lending a 3d feel to an image.

.

Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal.

.

Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors, @kevinkuster and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

.

Glad you're here. Can't wait to see your shots. Speak up if you have questions or comments. We like to think this is the friendliest place on the internet. :-).

BIG thanks to all of you who participated in our Polaroid Foto Bar event the last couple week's. I got a preview of Oscar's initial designs for the piece. You won't be disappointed. It's gonna be AMAZING! Tens of thousands of shots were submitted. And thousands of you will soon be able to say you have work in a museum. :-). Pretty cool. I'm jealous! ;-).

.

In case you didn't hear, if you click on the Polaroid Foto Bar link in my profile, 30% of all purchases will go to a special Emily and Emma fund. That's right, 30% of all sales will be donated to Emily and Emma to help them during this difficult time after the fire! So cool. It's great to have partners like that. :-).

THE #JJ FORUM - OPEN ROAD SPECIAL.

It's day two of our Open Road Challenge, sponsored by @FIATusa. You've probably heard, Kevin and I are visiting four cities over the next few days. Second stop, we're on our way to Portland.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to once again have @FIATusa sponsoring this trip for us. We honestly could not do these trips without their help.

Since we're traveling in conjunction with FIAT's extreme sports tour this year, we'll be focusing on action sports related themes. Today's two themes are for the surfers out there. :-). We're doing Water or Waves.

Hey it's @kevinkuster highlighting for our courage theme today.

Lucille Ball once famously said, "I am not funny what I am is brave." That my friends is one if the key pillars of great comedy.

Now, I don't know if this video meets this high standard but, it is pretty funny!

This clip is by @joehaggard. Joe was courageous enough to follow Josh and I on our four city road trip with @fiatusa. As you can tell, he caught some great moments and some aaahhh... not so great moments. Enjoy!

WHAT THE HECK IS #JJ?.

Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal.

.

Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

.

Glad you're here. Can't wait to see your shots. Speak up if you have questions or comments. We like to think this is the friendliest place on the internet. :-).

Perhaps one of my favorite forms of photography is street photography. While going about your business, with your hidden camera at the ready, you're like a spy searching to capture wondrous vignettes of everyday life without detection. There's little time to adjust exposure, composition or even focus, and the keeper ratio is extremely low. The late great Vivian Maier was one of the best, and wasn't discovered until after her death. Do yourself a favor and google her and see the movie Finding Vivian Maier that was just released. It's an incredible story. .

In the meanwhile, check out #jj_forum_0929 for more fine examples. @liliandmax is particularly skilled at this style and captures today's Paris on her lunch hour like few others are able. Show her some love and tag your own. Just don't forget your 1-2-3's

"SOMETHING SIGNIFICANT"- An interview with @bridgettesxo of @wearegrryo.

Every Wednesday morning I post a little something that speaks to the deeper side of what we do here. This week I'm going to refer you to a piece on grryo.com. Here's an excerpt.

"I want to do something significant, to make an impression in the world. The opportunities that we get to make something significant always happen when there is change. And there are changes happening now. Technology and more specifically, mobile technology is fueling an exciting global burst of creativity. There’s an opportunity to guide people through that process of creative discovery, and to lead during this disruptive and exciting change. This is what I want to do and how I want to position myself and our community."

As I mentioned, that is a paraphrase from a phone interview I did a couple days ago with @bridgettesxo and a picture of the landscape that rushed by as we talked on our way down the west coast. :-) You can find the interview transcript on the "Stories" page at grryo.com.

We had an very cool talk. If your REALLY interested, I'll link to the full audio file at the top of my account. Fair warning. It's unedited. We're not talking NPR production values. Hopefully the app I used, Call Recorder, can host traffic. If not, let me know and I'll post it somewhere else.

Hi everyone it's @grammy1 for Family Matters. I have had a three months sabbatical :-) Visit @grammy1 and scroll to see what I have been up to. Family Matters will now appear on Thursdays and as always it will run along with the daily forum. .
