WHAT THE HECK IS #JJ?.

Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal.

Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors, @kevinkuster and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

My best friends Husband always says when his Wife gets home that he didn't take any video or photos of what they did while she was gone so she would freak. I love it. They have a huge ranch and lots of off road toys. She tells him every time she leaves, I don't wanna know;)

In my humble opinion IG has done a great job keeping the entire community "safe for all eyes." I know and realize some have different opinions of what art is and isn't and this debate can get intense. This is a timeless debate and will never be answered by the masses. Each individual must answer that question for oneself.

To me this photo is simply beautiful! It reminds me of classic Greek or Roman sculpture. Bravo @observationsintime.Please give them some #jj love and new followers!

WHY I LOVE LIVING WITHOUT MY "STUFF".

.

I have always had a love/hate relationship with my "stuff". Like almost everything else in my life, I think it comes back to The Itch. We talked about The Itch a couple week's ago. Insufficient dopamine. ADD. That unsettled and restless feeling that makes me look for something, anything, to occupy and distract uncomfortable mind.

.

Some times my stuff helped. It kept me out of my head. I have heard that people with Tennitus, a ringing in the ears, often prefer music or white noise to silence. It makes perfect sense to me. I've know my stuff drowns out that consistent uncomfortable hum in my brain. Stuff helped me feel better.

.

Some times. . .

.

Unfortunately, the "fix" is short term. Isn't every "fix". Eventually the new camera becomes the not so new camera. I've been through all the menus. I've tried all the fancy new features and shopped for the accessories. There isn't anything left to explore and that brain hum floods in again. So. . . I need to find something else.

Have you heard about our @FIATUSA Open Road trip this summer? Just like last years trip someone will win a NEW FIAT 500L!

To get you guys pumped up about possibly winning your own vehicle, I reached out to last years car winner @littlecoal and asked him a few questions.

KK. Who is cooler? James Bond in a tricked out 007 car complete with pop up machine guns and secret rocket launchers or @littlecoal in his new FIAT 500L?

LC. I can't even begin to answer that with a straight face!

KK. Have you attempted any death defying jumps over a pool of sharks in your 500L?

LC. No pools of sharks, but I saw the sidewalk chalk left on the driveway using the backup camera and safely navigated around it. Same thing right?

HIGH RES RELATIONSHIPS.

The crew from last year's NYC meetup.

This world wide creative community is powerful. It's changed my life. I've met people who inspire me. People who make me feel like I'm not alone. Like I am loved. Not because I look like I'm expected to, or say what I'm suppose to, but because I am strong enough, crazy enough, to honestly be who I am. No games.

.

I am very grateful for the experience of these three plus years. An experience that came to me unexpectedly through little, low res pictures.

.

I'm grateful, but to be honest I'm also a bit concerned.

.

I am naturally introverted. To a fault. And I'm concerned that I might have a tendency to loose the big picture in the stream of shiny images and pleasant comments. Bare with me and I'll try and explain.

.

The truly powerful thing happening here is not about pictures at all, but about friendships. So I don't want to settle for platitudes or niceties. Here's the hard truth. It is sometimes very tempting for me to take the praise in but still keep to myself. I call it hermit mode. :-) a

And hermit mode is not a good place for me.

.

Can you relate? If we're not careful, social media is kind of like "relationship junk food" isn't it? Tastes great. . . but not much substance really.

.

So this week I'm gonna make the time to buy someone a drink instead of liking their picture. I'm going to make an effort to go deeper than a three sentence comment. I'm not going let the hermit win. ;-).

.

I don't want to loose sight of the big picture. Because, in the end, if this thing is going to work, it's not really about the pictures. It's not about an app. It's not about a quick little digital boost to our egos.

.

It's about really connecting. It's about friendships.

.

Things have changed. This one time, SLR camera nerd, is now surprisingly comfortable shooting small, square, images with my phone. And, in the end, I guess I'm ok with lowering the pixel count of my jpgs. :-). But I DON'T EVER want to be ok with low resolution friendships. In the end, that's the big picture. That's what's worth while. Isn't it?.
