WHAT THE HECK IS #JJ?.

Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal.

.

Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

Hey everyone. Here is my favorite shot from our "Week's Best" forum yesterday.

Our tag was #JJ_Forum_0892, with over 9,000 great shots in the gallery. I thought this submission added by @nickmrnhook was amazing. Thank you SO much Nick for sharing it with us this week. Really an incredible picture.

#JJ_INSTATIP- Personally I feel like there is no shame in snapping people's pictures in public places. Depending on the culture however, it is often best to get permission if don't want to make people mad. . . unless you're sneaky. :-). Did you know that, on the iPhone, you can release the shutter in the camera app by pressing the volume up button on your headphones? Very 007 huh!? ;-).

aerial69: Just a little Background on this Image. This is my Daughter who was home last year during our 4th of July Independence Celebration. At the time her Husband was deployed to Afghanistan. I had just had another son-in-law return from there just prior. My husband had Retired from the Fire Department after 32 years of Service. So this image for me Represents many different things! Maybe not the "Freedom" that you are referring to but in my mind this Image is indeed a "Symbol of Freedom". As Kevin said we are all entitled to our own opinions whether we agree or not. I Appreciate that you think it is a cool image & Thank~you for saying so. Respectfully~Deb @mister1tea @kevinkuster

The point I was trying to make to @kevinkuster is that when two images of the flag appear on a "freedom" themed forum, the rest of the world might question the choice. As a matter of interest, do any other flags symbolise freedom for US citizens?

mister1tea: For Americans this flag is synonymous with freedom and when I was a kid it was the same here. We all wanted to be Americans...I just think that the world has started to look at America differently. I hope I didn't cause any offence @kevinkuster and @aerial69

#JJ_FORUM_0877- @flortosc inspired our theme today with this fun submission a couple days back.

Today's assignment, is a little more open for interperation than some. Today I'm looking for shots that feature the concept "On Top".

#JJ_INSTATIP - Here's a tip that might help a little today's theme. If you've been with us for a while, you've heard me say how important it is to look for more than just the one shot that first jumps out at you. Work every scene till your sure you've got it. . . then take three more. ;-).

.

A big part of working you subject is framing. I'm not against centering your shot some times, but by all means make sure you get a little crazy too. Put the horizon on the very bottom of the image or cut half the building off maybe. Often the unexpected framing will be quite striking. Worked good for @flortosc didn't it?. :-).

.

Here's a little tip for today's theme. Want to make a nose look big? Follow Ray's lead and get in real close.

.

But the real gold nugget today might be in understanding that the opposite holds just as true. The cure for the unflatteringly prominent proboscis common in wide angle close ups? Step back a few feet.

.

When it comes to portraiture, smaller noses are almost always better looking noses. Your more vain friends will certainly thank you for learning this trick. :-). Crop in on your image after the fact if you need a tighter framing.

Well, it takes courage to be apart of such a huge global community!

Seriously, think about it! We have so many different likes, tastes, cultures and opinions. It is virtually impossible to make everyone happy!

I am sure each and everyone of you has been annoyed, angry, hurt or disenchanted at some point with Josh, Me or the community, however, you keep coming back! This type of action takes courage.

I have learned that we are truly like a family and it's okay to see things differently as long as we continue to respect each, acknowledge our differences and love creating together.

Hey it's @kevinkuster posting.

Thought this image was prefect for today's friends theme and a great image end our #jj community and @fiatusa Open Road Challenge!

As I walk to my gate for my plane ride home, I feel so much gratitude and appreciation for everyone that supported us with likes, comments and those who came out to one of our four instameets.

There are SO many people to thank and acknowledge that I wouldn't even know where to begin!

My sincere thanks to EVERYONE that helps to make this the best place to gather, share connect and create each and every day!
