danielschell: I'm new to your #JJ forums. Am I foolish for trying to follow any sort of guidelines? You post says "a shot or two" but I've just noticed 2 different users tag 26 photos apiece. Is the intention to limit ourselves to a couple tags?

nuodaispalis: @danielschell I agree. I get so frustrated when I see people tagging more than a dozen photos, or photos that are over a week old. The point is to highlight a couple shots that you're most proud of, not to spam the tag. I personally never tag more than two of mine (unless I had a really good week, which is rare ;p).

Don't just take the shot. Make it. Today I'm going to encourage you to think about shooting with intention. With the end in mind. Specifically what would you like anyone who sees your picture to feel? Maybe it's complicated or maybe, like this shot from @maariabutt it's unapologetically meant to make your heart melt. In any case if your shot isn't intended to create emotion, I'm not sure there is a good reason it should exist.

Once you've answered that question, what emotion am I conveying, your job is to get rid of anything in your composition that gets in your way. That's what photographers do. I believe cutting to the essence is what truly separates the best.

Give it a try. Today when you shoot your life, do it with intention. Don't take your next shot, make it.

#JJ_EXPLAINED- Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal.

Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors, @kevinkuster and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

Glad you're here. Can't wait to see your shots. Speak up if you have questions or comments. We like to think this is the friendliest place on the internet. :-).
