103. Jaeger Family House (4462 Sixth Street) G.D. Haigh constructed this 1907 Craftsman residence for the Jaeger family, who moved from Iowa to Riverside in 1906. Dr. Edmund Jaeger, one of Southern California’s foremost botanists, occupied the house until his death in 1983.
This former U.S. Army Kaserne now is a University. The Kaserne was prior home to a small M.P. detachment, and admin people. The base had a movie theater, PX, music store,garden store, fitness store, and other small shops.
You can see the yolk on the bill from the goose egg this bird was eating.

In 1992 I helped cleaned these barracks out for return to the German Government. I think the M.P.'s were housed here.
Surprise! Turns out I do system stuff. As you can probably tell from the title, this guy was inspired by Pacific Rim.
Once the top peoples brand Jaegar has lost a lot of it's glamour over the last few years and now is just another tab of Marks and Spencer. I don't pay much for my clothes and so nevertheless I'm still a bit of a sucker for this brand and I still find plenty of lovely clothes like elegant this long blue dress to wear.

The small building was a former garden and sports equipment store. The white building to the right housed the fire department and M.P.'s. This base was closed in 1993/1994.

Parasitic Jaeger nests in coastal tundra and migrate along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, so every fall on east winds birders and photographers head to the lake to see if one can be found. Over the weekend a single bird delighted birders and photographers alike in Hamilton, Ontario. Lighting conditions were poor at times and when the bird flew he came straight up the beach and flew about 10 feet over our heads. Not great for images, but fun to watch all the same.
The Bay of Fundy was alive with predatory sea birds on my recent trip off the coast of Grand Manan. I saw several of these pomarine jaegers during the 8 hours that we were out on the Bay.
These guys nest in the Canadian Arctic and Alaska winter in the warm southern waters. According the Audubon guide they "forage at sea by dipping to surface in flight to catch fish, by catching small birds in flight, also by harassing other birds and forcing them to drop their food. Forages over land mostly by hovering and dropping on prey."
Gull-like in shape and size, slightly smaller the Ring-billed gull. All dark brown. Lighter on the nape and feathers have pale fringing. Bill pale with dark tip. Thank you, Matthew Cvetas of eBird for confirming this identification.
