I love November because all the purple trees are in bloom. The Jacarandá is typical of subtropical weather like Buenos Aires or Montevideo.
This avenue is filled with them and everything is absolutely lavander purple for 1 or 2 weeks if there are no winds or rains.
The one in the blue dress is me. The staircases on the right are the Malba Museum of latin american art.

the jacaranda trees are blooming glorious purple all over santa barbara and dropping their confetti in thin purple films all over the roads and sidewalks.
in other news, i made somewhat of a special purchase last night. as some of you may know, i have been a one camera woman for quite some time now. there was a time where the thought of cheating on my M6 was basically unthinkable. but after a lot of thought, i've come to realize that there is room in my heart for another camera as well. i recently came into a little bit of extra income, and like any rational person, i earmarked it immediately (even before i'd actually finished the work associated with it) for the purchase of my very own HASSELBLAD. i've been floating on air about it all morning, not sure what i will do when it actually arrives!

The Jacaranda in October,November in Australia is a most stiking tree in full bloom. It is a remarkably adaptable tree and can be found in most country towns around Australia as Jacarandas can tolerate quite dry conditions becoming deciduous before exploding into flower although it does not tolerate frost well.
Grafton has the title of the Jacaranda City though and it is true Jacarandas do love the river loam and the climate of this NSW inland north coast town.
Often seen flowering in early summer with Illawarra Flame Trees,Tabebuias,Cassias species,Silky Oaks,Tree Waratahs and Cape Chestnuts,Jacarandas are surely one of the worlds great flowering trees.
"White Christmas" is a white flowering grafted variety.I have photos of it in this set.
These images were shot on different days under different light conditions which accounts for the varied colour tones quite apart from the colour variation between trees.Grafted trees are now the preferred option due to better flowering and more intense blues/purples.

The delicate bell shaped flowers of the Jacaranda tree.
Our street is called Jacaranda, consequently many Jacaranda trees have been planted. These flowers were the last ' bunch ' flowering on any of the trees.
Jacaranda Festival is over for another year and it always amazes me the sights I see!
When the trees turns purple and the people go strange.
It could only happen in Australia.
