Custom tongue and groove flooring,

Writer Maile Chapman and I worked together for this exhibition. We realized that we share an interest in architecture and have both been affected by Alzheimer’s in some way, so we thought we’d explore that in this exhibition. Maile mentioned a series of architectural solutions meant to ease the anxiety when familiar surroundings begin to become unfamiliar, even threatening. We both noted that seemingly ordinary architectural and design features could be unsettling to someone experiencing the early stages of dementia. It occurred to us that, in instances of disorientation, architecture may appear to be flexible and shifting, perhaps even conspiring against one. What came to mind was the unsettling potential of mistaking a cast shadow for a hole in the floor…too dangerous to step across.
This section of tongue and groove flooring hosts a wedge (which is also a custom piece of tongue and groove flooring) locked within the structure of the floor by the surrounding planks. From one angle, the wedge disappears, but in casting a menacing shadow there is a perceived danger. Rather than just a visual misunderstanding, the plank actually extrudes upwards and has become a genuine threat.

“10 x 10: A creative exchange between visual artists and writers”
Clark County Government Center Rotunda Gallery
Las Vegas, NV
October 24 – December 2
Visual artists and writers whose work is influenced or inspired by Southern Nevada engage in creative discourse for this exhibition that celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the Vegas Valley Book Festival, with a nod to the recent centennials of Las Vegas and Clark County. The exhibition and accompanying limited print publication will present the sculptural objects and literary texts emerging from this exchange. A First Friday reception will feature a spoken word event on November 4 from 6-8 PM. Video footage of poetry, fiction and non-fictiion prose readings by participating authors will be presented on the Clark County Parks and Recreation web-page for smart-phone access in the space.
This project is a partnership with the Vegas Valley Book Festival and is funded, in part, by the Nevada Humanities and the Nevada Arts Council, state agencies, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a national agency.

No one else goes to this area, except for this mink which fishes for crabs and starfish. Sadly, my lying around interrupted his suppertime hunting. He was very shy, running under the rock on the right several times before daring to come out. What great swimmers and divers they are.
I'm trying to loosen up my artwork (although I may never totally get away from it in paintings). Anyway, I started drawing and the lady showed up. I saw her as being on the high side of 30 and loving attention. She had planned to do a fancy dive to impress everyone and then possibly lose her bikini top in the pool so some gentleman would bring her a towel to cover up with while she portrayed maidenly modesty. Note I said "portrayed". So I was sketching away merrily, the diving board was taking shape, and then the cat appeared from nowhere. The lady's maidenly modesty will have to wait, while the cat decides if he's going to jump in or go back the way he came...whatever that was.

Well it sure has been a while since I made a Fence Friday appearance! All the more reason I suppose. I saw this fence last week when I was out and around and wanted to get back into the game. It didn't look near as nice when I was up on it, out of the car, but I worked it out I suppose.

Before I post any more shots of our most recent trip, I have to explain a few things.
We decided to go earlier this year than in years' past. Usually we hit Denali at the end of August, but this year, we wanted to "taste" Denali and Alaska at a bit different of a season. We were fearful of the legendary mosquitoes that many speak of during the Alaskan summer (though we have plenty of those in our hometown), or the crowds (we hate crowds), or missing the cold weather (which we crave coming from summers in Florida). To our delight, we saw literally only 1-2 mosquitoes, the crowds were extremely minimal, and the weather was still a welcome chilly relief. What we weren't prepared for was the extended daylight hours......
We arrived at Denali NP at about 8:00PM or so, checked into our campground, and then began to "troll" the first 15 miles of the park (which is the only accessible section for private vehicles). We were amazed at how empty the roads were, as we had limited encounters with fellow photographers along the way. I then checked my watch and realized that it was already 9:20PM, but the sun was still quite high and shining brightly.
I was amazed at how light it still was - remembering that on a past trip to the Canadian Rockies, it remained light out past 10PM, so I thought I was get a shot of the light at 9:20, assuming that within an hour or so, it would begin to go down.
We further travelled the road, photographing grizzly bears, moose, snowshoe hares, and ptmarigan - to name a few.
As we began to head back to the entrance to go grab a bit to eat, we noticed that while it was still quite light out, we had effectively been out until after 12 midnight! Even at 2AM, I got up and peeked outside and it was quite literally still light enough out to go for a hike!
So that my friends was the beginning of my "no rest" vacation. We finally fell asleep after 2AM with a 5:45AM wake up call! Most nights, that pattern was unfortunately repeated. LOL
I always thought that the hardest part of living in Alaska would be the darkness of winter, but for someone who feels the need to "make hay while the sun shines", it presented challenges for us the entire 2 weeks......
....... and now everyone knows why it took 3 weeks for me to start posting my photos from this trip - that and the 6500 shots I had to get through!

New FEDE toggle switch
In recent years, FEDE has set the latest trends in switches, with its wide range of solutions: rocker switches in various brass finishes; the touch switch, activated through touch rather than by pushing, and the rotary switch, with five different handles, the inspiration for our first catalogue "The art of switching on the light".
Now we would like to present our new toggle switch. We love its retro air, which fits perfectly into the design of our collections, ideal for classic, vintage and contemporary settings with style.
Technically, it represents a very versatile advance, since it attaches onto our standard switch, which means that rockers can be easily exchanged for toggles. All of our electrical mechanisms adapt to European back boxes and are modular.
Added to easy installation is its decorative function, thanks to the careful design of the metal toggle.
In short, a new "must have" from FEDE, designed for high-end décor projects.

Muito sono... e muito trabalho... péssima combinação, ainda mais quando se trabalha com criação. Bem que poderia existir um interruptor para as ideias.
