STOP THE UNDECLARED WAR IN MINDANAO. Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staged a peace rally and forum on 30 October 2008 at Notre Dame of Midsayap College, Midsayap, North Cotabato, calling for a halt to the surgical military operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) supposedly aimed at capturing three “rogue” commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) but have caused the destruction of myriad properties, death of many innocent civilians including women and children, and displacement of over half a million people.
Children reach for candies being distributed during a relief operation conducted by the local government and the Peace and Development Advocates (PDAs) in Barangay Mudseng, Midsayap, Cotabato Province. The children are among those displaced as a result of the armed conflict that has affected eight barangays of Midsayap. The PDAs, many of whom are members of the Moro National Liberation Front doing volunteer work for peace and development, are among the partners of the GoP-UN's ACT for Peace Programme in sustaining peacebuilding initiatives in Southern Philippines. looks like a piece of industrial art!
i took this shot to remind myself what it's supposed to look like when it is all put back together. if you look at the largest size, you can see that i've been neglectful. i figured i'd be detail stripping and cleaning when installing the trigger, so there's a bunch of gunk left over from the last range trip.

Other outstanding architectural features include fine stone arches, quoins, heads and cills, whilst internally the property provides some fine exposed stonework, original beams and trusses which all add to a home of immense character.
When complete in December 2010, the hallway will showcase exposed handmade brick archways and oversize Oak strung staircase winding up to the first floor and second floors. The huge kitchen, which features a hand cut natural stone arch with countryside views will feature an AGA and JL Designs solid timber handmade units with natural stone flooring, walking into the lounge you will confronted by another natural stone arch with clear views down the Tyne Valley and turning to a handmade brick & stone fireplace housing a traditional stove.

I had quite a good seat on the plane from North to South Island and rather liked the rainbow effect created by the propellor.

Every June, the central "red ditch" converts from green to scarlet. Rhododendron Vulcan's Flame is a wonderful old West Coast hybrid that has done well for us, slowly building in scale, blooming after the general peak of late May. After years of tough triage, we started winnowing down to our favorite rhodys, adding more of the same. Doesn't this work better here than a collection of colors?
"The rake's progress" (with apologies to Mr. Hogarth) : we find ourselves increasingly more interested in "creating experiences" with plants than in just having or growing them. We enjoy visitors' surprise in coming around a hedge to suddenly be blasted by this scarlet vision. The rhodys are planted to be backlighted after noon, so the result is the red is exaggerated even more.
Here, the backlighting is in fog, causing the flowers' edges to dissolve a bit in haze. Fun!
