A Steam Injector. I found this hard to understand when I studied them in my thermodynamics lectures. I still do to some extent and suspect I need to just work through the maths to convince myself that it does work!
The Venturi effect is counter-intuitive. Pressure reduces in a constriction then increases again as the gap widens and the fluid slows down. This device speeds the steam up in a constriction and mixes it with water. It then widens the jet to slow it down and increase pressure - to above the pressure in the boiler! Now that is quite amazing, but also very counter-intuitive.
Maybe it's like using the steam to throw water at a wall. The steam condenses which also effects things.

These fuel injector assemblies were run through the sand blaster and parts washer, then the new injection nozzles were installed into them (the part pointing into the engine block). All of the fuel lines and secondary lines need to be attached.
There's supposed to be 4 holes in the tip. Seeing this I'm sure the spray pattern was a mess and the leak off was probably just dripping.
As far as I can tell, this is the original tip from 1969. When they took it apart to rebuild it, they said it was full of mud and looked like it was the original.
