This is one of my favorite passages.
It begins with Mathew 7:1-5 : "Stop judging so that you will not be judged. Otherwise, you will be judged by the same standard you use to judge others. The standards you use for others will be applied to you. So why do you see the piece of sawdust in another believer's eye and not notice the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to another believer, 'Let me take the piece of sawdust out of your eye,' when you have a beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye. Then you will see clearly to remove the piece of sawdust from another believer's eye."

I find that a lot of people (from every part of society), sadly, have big problems with these simple "tasks".
And from someone who has experienced both sides of it: Believe Me __NO-ONE__ benefits from beig judge, nor judging.
And this is true: If you keep judging people and treating other people in a negative way, you are putting yourself in a "bad/negative (psychological) state". A positive attitude gives a better life...
I must say that this group seams to be frre from negativ attitudes, and for that we should be glad (I am...).

But I just reread Cory Doctorow's "Little Brother", a slam-bang-kick-in-the-ass-ma'am modern political science fiction novel. Now officially in the top ten favorite books of mine for all time; it survives rereading well.
Officially juvenile lit (it was on the NYTimes bestseller 'chapter books for kids') it is a rollicking rebel anarchist opera - Hair with hacking instead of music.
I highly recommend it to everybody.
The beautiful Exconvento of Cuilapam de Guerrero was built in the late 1500s and is being restored by INAH, Mexico's equivalent of the Smithsonian Institution. It was built by Dominican friars with slave labor to convert the indigenous Zapotec people. When the friars demanded that the Zapotecs stop the practice of human sacrifice, the Zapotecs looked at the paintings the Friars had brought from Spain depicting the martyr San Sebastian, Christ hanging on the cross, and other bloodied saints, and called the friars hypocrites. As a result, the paintings were taken down and abstract representations of the cross were inscribed in the walls. It is said that the head of the ancient Zapotec princess Donaji is buried here. Also, in 1831 Vicente Guerrero was executed in the back of the church.

Toward the last couple of years of my over 12 year tenancy, she started even watering her own stuff. This is the doorknob to her own storeroom with close up watering. The bottom of the walls of the building had already rotted in places from her watering from a distance with sprinklers. She watered for 8, 10, 12 hours or sometimes all night.

People favourably respond to Change
Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.

An aspirational monument - if you choose to see it that way..
When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

A week before the eviction, Boris Johnson was 'sleeping rough' on the streets to raise awareness for homeless veterans. The hypocrisy of the man is without limit. As one homeless person explained to me: "He knows nothing about being homeless or sleeping rough, how can he? Isn't he a millionaire? Sleeping one night with minders, press and a credit card in your back pocket gives you no insight into being homeless at all."
Shukriya Khanum was the first Pakistani woman to obtain a commercial pilot’s licence. Being a hypocrite here, since my consciousness is mainly against eating red meat or any meat but I sill do on occasion... but “curiosity killed the cat” principle really was driving me here – this is also at La Fondue, Saratoga - they serve kagaroo and all sorts of other strange staff like oligators but you have to cook it yourself in a little pot in front of you in a rather upscale romantic restaurant, frenchy tradition... Fondue Bourguignon.
Hate to admit that kangaroo meat is tasty but this is my first and last time eating it...

Republican Congressman Steve King (Iowa) has a curious idea about the origin and the concept of same-sex marriage. Rep. King expounding on the perils of allowing gay marriage, which he believes is a "purely socialist concept":
So in the end this is something that has to come with a, if there's a push for a socialist society, a society where the foundations of individual rights and liberties are undermined and everybody is thrown together, living collectively off of one pot of resources earned by everyone. That is, this is one of the goals they have to go to is same-sex marriage because it has to plow through marriage in order to get to their goal. They want public affirmation. They want access to public funds and resources. Eventually all those resources will be pooled because that's the direction we're going. And not only is it a radical social idea, it is a purely socialist concept in the final analysis.

U.S. Rep. Steve King represents Iowa’s 5th District, and while that part of the state wasn’t devastated by last year’s river floods, his district is hardly immune to the threat of rising water.
But the Iowa Republican, who in 2005 earmarked millions for flood control in his own district, told the publication The Hill that the best vote he ever cast was against relief for Hurricane Katrina. Specifically, he voted against the second emergency supplemental appropriation — introduced barely a week after the storm hit the Gulf Coast and the federal levees in New Orleans fell apart.
“Probably the singular vote that stands out that went against the grain, and it turns out to be the best vote that I cast, was my ‘no’ vote to the $51.5 billion to Katrina,” he told The Hill.
Rep. King was one of 11 House members to vote against this urgently needed help for an area that, at the time, was still under water. But opposing relief for a devastated region of this country is hardly an act of political courage. The fact that he considers it a point of pride is appalling.
Greater New Orleans suffered catastrophic destruction not only because of a powerful storm but because the flood protection system built by the federal government failed.
While some lawmakers from other parts of the country showed a lack of concern and understanding after Katrina — even questioning the wisdom of rebuilding our community — it’s hard to understand how a lawmaker from Iowa, a state that’s also vulnerable to flooding, could be unwilling to help.
Even now, officials in Des Moines are complaining about a slow and inadequate response to their flood recovery — including the lament that FEMA is underestimating the amount of money needed to replace public buildings. That’s something that South Louisianians can understand, and in fact, we feel for Iowans.
Unfortunately, when it counted, Rep. King didn’t feel for us.
