This was one place I really wanted to visit on our Icelandic adventure. As far as basalt sea stacks go these are some of the most famous. The place had a definite atmosphere to it. From the road we used to access the site the stacks don't come into view until your almost upon them which tends to heighten the experience. As per normal we had very little time before we had to move on, (I could have spent all day here), but I managed to fire off a few long exposures to capture the two main formations.
The stacks are situated under the mountain of Reynisfjall near the village Vik on Icelands south coast which is framed by a black sand beach that was ranked in 1991 as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.
Legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-masted ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke they became needles of rock.
Contemporary legends note the story of a husband who found his wife taken by the two trolls, frozen at night. The husband made the two trolls swear to never kill anyone ever again. His wife was the love of his life, whose free spirit he was unable to provide a home for; she found her fate out among the trolls, rocks, and sea at Reynisfjara.
RAW shot with a fair amount of post processing including the black and white conversion in adobe camera raw and photoshop. Shot using a tripod mounted Fuji X-T2 & 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 @ 55mm and a 10 stop ND, aperture f8, exposure 3.2 seconds, ISO 200.

Far Enough to Know
This is another from Grizzly Peak, above Berkeley, CA. Some rain clouds broke up just in time for sunset. Sometimes I get lucky like that.

Lush CanyonOne of my favorite places in the gorge and one of the hardest places to access. This a semi-long exposure. Evening rainbow on the inlet
This was the third rainbow we had at the end of the day. It would disappear and then we'd get another shower and another one would appear.
What is even more amazing is that they each had a shadow rainbow next to them so it was like a double rainbow.
I couldn't capture the faded double one with the lens I happened to have as well as capture this amazing reflection on the surface of the inlet at Mallacoota when we were there.

Brighton Pier
This is the pier we see from the dog beach but on Friday I was at the cafe on the other side of this for my mum's 91st birthday lunch.
I took this while we waited for the maxi-taxi to come and pick us up. It was getting dark from the heavy cloud cover and has been pretty typical in the afternoon lately but it's still a lovely scene.

Bar Beach, Merimbula, NSW
We took a day trip to Eden and Merimbula recently when we were holidaying at Mallacoota.
This is where I saw a pair of Sooty Oyster Catchers. It was a fine but cold day with a strong, bitter wind. You can see how the ocean's surface is choppy which gives a fair indication of the weather.
We had an electrical glitch with our car here so lucky it was a nice view while we waited for the NRMA (auto club) to come and sort out our problem.

We travelled this road for the first time on Monday on our way back from going to Armstrong, near Geelong. It was so beautiful seeing the hills all around even with the grey, overcast sky above.

Bridge over still water
Friday was a glorious winter day and since I had to kill some time while my car had a major service, and it turns out some extra work done, I went to this lovely park with my camera.
Karkarook park is completely man-made and nestled in a fairly industrial area but it has really become an established habitat for birdlife and, I suspect, other wildlife also. I've seen the rabbit scratchings in the ground for a start.
Now, I know this photo does not show the prolific birdlife I mentioned but you have to take my word that they are just the other side of the bridge or closer in to the reeds...really!
I took this photo from a viewing platform they have built there. It was really nice being up there with the sun shining, the sounds of various birds around me, and just a few other people wandering through every now and then.
I hope you find this image brings you a peaceful feeling also.

Looking across at the noisy neighbours
An escape from the hustle and bustle, the Melbourne Botanic Gardens is a real oasis where you can lose yourself in the beauty of the surroundings with beautiful flora of all kinds which provide a habitat for a myriad of creatures including possums, birds, frogs and insects.
But then, we look across the lake at one point and see the Eureka Tower standing tall and seemingly peering over the trees which reminds us how close we are to the heart of the city.
The tower to the left is on top of the Governer's house. You can see the flag at half mast in respect for the lives lost in the MH17 disaster.

Bare bones in reflection
