Hinge was an online cultural journal operating out of Aughts Philadelphia (ed. Marilyn Bess), which featured original poetry, music, and visual art.

I was inspired by Art Nahpro to display some intersting found objects which do easily become precious being they are so unique. This is a home-made hinge I found in an old abandonned stone house somewhere in the countryside of Umbria. It's interesting how simply and brilliantly it was made. Originally one flat piece of metal. I probably was made in the 30's or 20's

The door is double-hinged so that it'll fold all the way open. Not quite sure why you'd want to do that, though - the point of buying a case like this is for silence, and it's quieter with the door shut.

The old hinges were replaced with new old stock items. I was really happy that after the overhaul the door handle for the first time closes down to the horizontal. If you look at old photos you will see that most jam halfway due to being set up wrong.
