I met Peter Gronquist about a year ago and immediatly connected to this out-of-the-box thinker and artist. Gronquist is well known for his Gucci rocket launchers, chain saws, and other art works that feature high end brand names on weapons of destruction. No stranger to utilyzing taxidermy in his works, where animal's horns have been replaced by gold plated AK-47s, Gronquist continues to juxtapose luxury with nature while bringing up questions about money, culture, and society.

Steven Tyler
The Bad Boys from Boston, American rockers Aerosmith headlined the first of two nights of the Calling Festival newly relocated to South London’s Clapham Common.
The Steven Tyler-led rockers brought their unique blend of entertaining rock to a damp London evening, re-energising the sodden crowd with a mixed set drawn from their extensive back catalogue as well a cover of The Beatles 1969 hit Come Together. They began the 18-song set with Mama Kin from their 1973 eponymous debut album before moving onto Get a Grip hit Eat the Rich and Pump classing Love in an Elevator.
Hits Walk This Way and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) also featured before the encore was opened with classic Dream On featuring Tyler playing piano and Joe Perry playing guitar … on the piano!
It’s surprising just how much energy the 66-year-old Tyler and 63-year-old Perry convey up on stage with such engaging performances and on-stage hijinks that kept the crowd enthralled from the outset until the closing bars of Toys in the Attic classic Sweet Emotion.

On September 18th, Gallery Hijinks opened “Highly Contagious,” featuring works from Chris Blackstock, Sebastian Wahl, Robert Minervini, Langdon Graves, Jen Mann, Andrea Wan, Catherine Ryan and Peter Gronquist. The space offered an interesting array of various themes presented on media that ranged from multi-layer resin collages (Wahl), to installations including beer bottles gathered from friends’ apartments and bits andpieces from Tenderloin street corners (Blackstock.) We spoke to some of the artistsfeatured in the show to find out more about their work and how the show came together.

Bat 'N' Rouge, Seattle, 2013.
Bat 'N' Rouge is an annual softball game between The Drag Queens and The Dykes. It is also a fundraiser for Seattle Area Support Groups, and one of Capitol Hill's most-anticipated summer events. Both teams put up a good fight, but the Drag Queens were victorious in the end.

Hijinks penny dreadful cover, Handsome Harry of the Fighting Belvedere No. 11, 1876, anonymous (E. Harcourt Burrage). Reprinted from a serial in The Boy's Standard (1875). Shipmate Ching-Ching somewhat breaks Asian stereotype as he is neither pirate nor cook (in fact he does not work). He was popular enough to spawn several other magazines: Cheerful Ching-Ching (1877), Ching-Ching's Own (1888) and Ching-Ching Yarns (1893).
Waiting (for over an hour) for a fairly expensive Ultramar ferry to ISla Mujeres, we saw this hilarious elimination game. One girl gracefully retires when all her balloon s are gone but another clearly doesn't know when to quit.

Another snapshot from the Ogram, Williamson, Parkinson find. Inscription on the reverse; "Susan Jane (right) Haack and Maryelisa (left) D'Arcy (Bessie's mother)".
Bessie D'Arcy appears in the group photo I have posted of Ograms and Williamsons with an old touring car.

In May 2015, Hijinks hijacked Madame Tussauds Sydney, turning the wax attraction into an over-the-top, fake-it-till-you-make-it party where everyone had made it to the big time.
The night featured pop-up bars, interactive games, and performances, including a Katy Perry tribute show from Pickled Tink, an Elvis performance by Nick “the King” Nicolas, a Marilyn drag show by Decoda Secret, stand-up comedy from Sam Kissajukian, a chorus girl performance by The Big Spenders, paparazzi by the Jetpack Collective and a giant Beyonce dance lesson by Diesel Darling.
For more info on the next Hijinks event, visit www.hijinkssydney.com. Hijinks is presented by The Festivalists and Merlin Events Australia.
HIJINKS takes over popular venues and re-imagines them as after-hours playgrounds and pop-up bars for adults. Featuring interactive activities and live performances by some of Sydney's brightest up-and-coming artists, these events remix the city into something unique and entirely unexpected.
