And here we are a day before the workshop in New Zealand began, goofing off in the fields along the lakes and mountains of New Zealand. That’s Karen Hutton there taking a photo of Curtis Simmons. It’s very meta and all that. You can also see my new truck there on the right. It’s a Volkswagen Amorak. Who’s ever heard of that? Not me! I didn’t even know Volkswagen made trucks till I moved here. Everything here has a different name… it’s kind of like a parallel universe when it comes to cars. The focus of this paragraph has shifted.

WHAT IS NOW A MUCH-LOVED attraction called Monkey Island was once a little more like a monkey detention center.
The island itself wasn’t always an island. It started out as an easily-missed rock outcropping that took out the bottom of boats on a fairly regular basis. A developer named G.A. “Furgy” Furgason finally decided to take action, and instructed crew members busy at a nearby location to “throw some dirt” on the rock pile to keep boaters from bottoming out. The crew were a little over-enthusiastic, and when Furgason returned from a business trip in Africa, where a small, hardly noticeable outcropping used to be there was now what could only be described as a small island.
Always the optimist, the developer threw a lighthouse and a few trees onto the new island and went back to more pressing business, primarily the new wildlife attraction (now Homosassa Wildlife State Park) he was building a little way up the stream. The attraction was to include all sorts of exotic plants and wild animals, including a small group of monkeys brought into the country by polio researcher Dr. John Hamlet. Their use as research animals exhausted, they were to retire to the wildlife park as attractions.
It’s fairly common knowledge that monkeys and their hijinks can be amusing, but they are clearly also a giant pain in the ass—and these particular monkeys were exceptional escape artists and a special sort of obnoxious. After several run-ins with tourists that included swiping candy from children, breaking into cars, and taking bites out of trusting, food offering hands, Furgy was up to his ears in monkey business and repeatedly stated he wished he could send the little hooligans to Alcatraz. Then, it dawned on him. He had a monkey-sized Alcatraz right there in his grasp-the tiny island with the wee little lighthouse, the perfect getaway for the monkeys to live in peace, observed by visitors who could enjoy them without becoming victims of their mischief. The three spider monkeys and two squirrel monkeys were shipped off to their new monkey jail, which of course then earned a name and became an official plot of land—Monkey Island.
After some trial and error, (trees originally planted had to be replaced with some that were a little less delicious to the monkeys, huts built to act as homes needed to be rebuilt a little more durable) peace between man and beast finally settled across Homosassa, and 40 years later, the surviving monkeys (and some new additions!) still live and play freely on the island while delighted tourists observe from a safe distance.

Rainbow Lorikeets like to eat the fresh growth on the Native Frangipani Tree (Hymenosporum flavum). Their main diet is nectar and fruit.
This was some hijinks at my senior class play rehearsals. It was the final dress rehearsal. The guy was my best friend, Kent, who passed away in 1999, and the girl was Renee, who was dating one of the cast members. This was a shot I took in my capacity as yearbook photographer and it made it into my senior yearbook - the class of 1979.

Maybe intrigued by its own reflection in the camera lens or just having a ball cavorting amongst the bougainvillea in the winter sun, this little mantis nymph reached out and pursued me relentlessly as I retreated to keep it in frame.

High altitude hijinks...spied this retro beauty headed my way on FR24 and took the shot from my back porch. Very clear air today resulting in a very sharp image...which was surprising because I forgot to drop the F-stop after earlier photos today. Normally I shoot these high altitude passes with the lens wide open.

While in Northern Ireland a couple of years ago we took a bus tour of the coastal areas. This included a visit to the Bushmills Distillery which is self-described as the oldest licensed distillery in the world, dating from 1608. Friends who are fans of whiskeys had told me it was a must visit (and taste, of course). Sadly, I am clearly not imbued with a sufficiently educated palate to appreciate the reputed liquid gold produced there. But others were and with slightly reduced inhibitions following a day-long tour, a group of American visitors elected to engage in some hijinks at a classic British phone booth in the distillery’s courtyard. One quick snap and back on the bus to continue our tour. - JW

PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: scale image to 9000x6000, convert to B&W and decrease the green and red channel gamma values to get a suitable tonal representation, enable Graduated Neutral Density/GND tool and rotate as well as shift it to cover the bright wall area in the upper right and bring its tonality into better balance with the rest of the image, enable Shadows/highlights tool and recover highlights as well bring up the shadows slightly (to bring up details inside phone booth), slightly boost contrast in L-A-B mode, sharpen, save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the levels tool in Auto mode to get a good overall tonal representation, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000x4000, sharpen slightly, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.

Just finished my 29th straight month of daily hijinks with the We’re Here! gang. Being the obsessive type I am, it’s going to be really hard to see a break in that continuity – but I plan to take June off. I’ll be traveling in Europe, and it’s just going to be too stressful to play this wacky game while traveling.
I’ll still post something every day for the 365 group though, and I’ll be keeping a blog. As some of you might have noticed, my uploads have been seriously lacking in the past year...or so. >_>
I've just been spending far too much time in the RL rather than on SL, and it's not as common for me to post on Flickr when I'm having another 'break' from the Grid.
Anyways, here's one of many things that I have been known to get up to recently. If you haven't tried this game out, I highly recommend it. It keeps me in a fit of giggles most the time, but is a worthy time-killer if you're a fan of the TV cartoon series featured within it. Link to the game on Steam ...and it's free-to-play!

There were six of four-ways one could approach the subject of love, forays into the unknown. In by this, it is meant the analysis of its corporealness, head-on-a-slabstone type thing, or conversely, avowing ‘em whilst wowing ‘em, as with the essential tenets of religion conviction - blind man’s belief baby! The subdivisions, crossovers, cluttering up of diverse yet succinct meanings, definitions of the two, without the help of the One, picking up of pertinent and salient points, as if they’d fallen off a domino and were scattered all about the joint, these were but a few of the tangents one was mostly likely to go off on as the stalking took form, got backing and was executed. Never without some kind of hijinks involved, or a multifaceted stratagem lurking in amongst the hedge grove, or perhaps even, at its peak end, a brush with death, the entire kit and caboodle often just stunk, even going so far as suggesting a trip out to the tip and disposing of the whole lot.
