On September 18th, Gallery Hijinks opened “Highly Contagious,” featuring works from Chris Blackstock, Sebastian Wahl, Robert Minervini, Langdon Graves, Jen Mann, Andrea Wan, Catherine Ryan and Peter Gronquist. The space offered an interesting array of various themes presented on media that ranged from multi-layer resin collages (Wahl), to installations including beer bottles gathered from friends’ apartments and bits andpieces from Tenderloin street corners (Blackstock.) We spoke to some of the artistsfeatured in the show to find out more about their work and how the show came together.

For Mardi Gras this year we went to this old, old, dive bar on lower Greenville where you bring your own liquor and for a couple of bucks they give you a set-up of ice and a mixer. This is Hillary holding our bowl of ice, looking festive.

These have been a long time coming. The party was back in September, but right after this event things got really busy for me, but here they are, finally.
Shooting a large group of kids has always proved a bit difficult. Getting them all to look in the same direction with cute smiles on their face all at the same time is an almost impossible task. The more you try to force it, the more agitated the kids get. I've found that shooting them early on (which I unfortunately didn't manage) and letting the cut loose after a bit and act silly (which I obviously manage to do) loosens them up a bit and makes them easier to direct. Plus, you usually end up with a fun picture that the kids enjoy.
