Cannon Beach & Haystack Rock, OR. Кэннон Бич и Скала «Стог Сена», Орегон

Jeff tied the rings into a long piece of cloth, which Kayla carried to the ceremony. (Anyone have any pictures of that?)

Cannon Beach is recognized by its well-known landmark, Haystack Rock, located southwest of downtown Cannon Beach, near Tolovana Park. This igneous rock has an elevation of 235 feet (72 m) and is often accessible at low tide, especially in the summertime. There is a small cave system that penetrates the rock and can be seen from the coastline. The rock is also protected as a marine sanctuary, Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and events are not allowed within 100 feet (30 m) of either side of the rock. Near Haystack Rock are the Needles, two tall rocks rising straight out of the water.

Or technically, top of the sea stack.

Ran across a dozen roses on Cannon Beach off of Haystack Rock. Nobody around knew where they came from. Some anonymous Mother's Day gesture, I reckon.

Haystack in Oregon at sunrise.

At least it looked like that to me.

I spent a perfect summer day at the Oregon coast last Friday, an outing that included cheese, wine tasting, a waterfall, and a lighthouse. How to top all that fun goodness? With a sunset, of course! In the evening I headed onto the sand at Cannon Beach and made the trek to Haystack Rock. All day, I was unsure whether I'd actually get to see a sunset, as fog kept rolling in onshore. Even ten minutes before this shot, I was worried about those clouds hovering on the horizon. In the end, I had nothing to fear; at 8:43 PM the sun touched the horizon and drowned in the sea, a fitting end to a fantastic day.

Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge includes 1,853 rocks, reefs and islands, stretching from Tillamook Head near Seaside south to the California border.

All of the rocks and islands of the refuge are designated National Wilderness Areas, with the exception of 1-acre Tillamook Rock.

Most of Oregon’s estimated 1.2 million nesting seabirds use Oregon Islands Refuge as a place to raise their young, and Oregon’s seals and sea lions use the islands as a place to haul out and rest or to give birth to their pups.

The first day the temperature was in the 90s when we arrived at the beach. I snapped many, many pictures of Haystack Rock, seagulls, and the Tillamook Rock Light.
