BJD and Barbie - harmonize quite well too ^_^

Marian kept the string taut and the arrow notched as she approached, her steps light and graceful. Her eyes locked on the target, she was a bit surprised at the light splashes of cold water. No matter, she paused and sighted.

She slowly took in her breath, expanding her lungs, and held it. Now, all was still. The gentle babble of the stream seemed to harmonize with the song birds.

Steady. Keep it sighted. The lush foliage around her was a tapestry of greens, with sunlight filtering through the canopy, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. It would be so easy to lose the target.

-thwwiiissshhh-THONK!

Marian smiled in satisfaction.

Who, or what did Marian target?

Located in a serene Amsterdam park, the "Bolbewoners" sculpture captures the essence of human connection through its elegant figures. Set upon a circular base, this artwork harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding greenery, inviting viewers to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature. A perfect blend of artistry and tranquility in the heart of the city.

Rainbow Bridge reflection,Tokyo 2011

The Rainbow Bridge (レインボーブリッジ, Reinbō burijji) is a suspension bridge crossing northern Tokyo Bay between Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront development in Minato, Tokyo, Japan.

Construction started in 1987 and was completed in 1993. The bridge is 798 metres (2,618 ft) long with a main span of 580 metres (1,903 ft). Officially called the "Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route - Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge," the name "'Rainbow Bridge" was decided by the public.

The towers supporting the bridge are white in color, designed to harmonize with the skyline of central Tokyo seen from Odaiba. There are lamps placed on the wires supporting the bridge, which are illuminated into three different colors, red, white and green every night using solar energy obtained during the day.(Wikipedia)

the winter is so beautiful. the soft sounds of flakes gently touching the frosty earth. melodies of bird calls harmonizing in the misty air. footsteps of grace wandering through the powder, reminding me that my heart is new. white as snow.

Thousands of flowers can elegantly live here to entertain all the visitors. Relaxation can only be acquired when you are here or hopefully, you can feel it through the photograph.

“When the sunlight hit the trees, all the beauty and wonder come together. Soul unfolds its petals. Flowering and fruiting of plants starts. The birds song light up the spinal column and harmonize the hippocampal functioning.”

The Austrian Parliament Building (German: Parlamentsgebäude, colloquially das Parlament) in Vienna is where the two houses of the Austrian Parliament conduct their sessions. The building is located on the Ringstraße boulevard in the first district Innere Stadt, near Hofburg Palace and the Palace of Justice. It was built to house the two chambers of the Imperial Council (Reichsrat), the bicameral legislature of the Cisleithanian (Austrian) part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Since its construction, the Parliament Building has been the seat of these two houses, and their successors—the National Council (Nationalrat) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat)—of the Austrian legislature.

The foundation stone was laid in 1874; the building was completed in 1883. The architect responsible for its Greek Revival style was Theophil Hansen. He designed the building holistically, aiming to have each element harmonizing with all the others. He was therefore also responsible for the interior decoration, such as statues, paintings, furniture, chandeliers, and numerous other elements. Hansen was honored by Emperor Franz Joseph with the title of Freiherr (Baron) after its completion. Following heavy damage and destruction in World War II, most of the interior has been restored to its original splendour. (Wikipedia)

Laos has remained virtually unchanged for half a century. Rich in history and culture, Laos and its peoples, more than 47 ethnic groups, harmonize life to ancient rhythms and traditions that evoke timeless Asia. The vast majority of Lao people live in Laos is approximately 4 million. Laos is generally very rural areas, and Many Lao people support by agriculture, with rice being the most important crop. Women hold dual responsibility for farm at home. In rice farming women in Laos have a substantial role. Traditionally, men plough, make bunds and prepare seedbeds, and women do more than half of the transplanting of rice, weeding, harvesting, threshing and post-harvest operations. Aside from this enumerated work, a gender division of labour exists in Laos which assigns women the major responsibility for childcare and housework. As household size averages seven people these tasks require numerous hours of work each day in addition to women's work outside their home. Such hard life for elderly women where life expectancy is 59 years est. 2008. Although the trappings of the modern world are becoming increasingly visible, Laos remains the least developed country in Southeast Asia. Laos has enjoyed high economic growth, despite poor national infrastructure and a dominant, inefficient agriculture sector. It is also heavily reliant on international assistance programs. In 1998, Laos began formal negotiations with the World Trade Organization. In 2008 a 5.60 US$/day per capita.

Along the way to Wat Luang temple in Pakse we met this old woman. She was sitting in front of her house busy with household duties. Lao women have played a central role in the national country's and household economies over the past two decades. Women's participation exceeds men's in the economically active population. Due to dual responsibility for farm and household they are usually overburdened with work. At home some of these duties include water collection, which may take two to three hours a day; husking rice for family consumption, which may require two hours of work; milling rice; and caring for the sick and the elderly. Girls assist their mothers with these chores and they are often made responsible for care of younger kids. In spite of their major economic contribution, women are generally not considered as workers. However, women, particularly older ones, do control household budgets and share in financial decision making. However, for some intangible reason, the Lao people are still wonderfully friendly, hospitable and passionate. They do not have much, but show it off with pride and wear warming smiles.

De gemiddelde verdienste per dag is 5,60 US$ per hoofd.

Welcome to the tranquil beauty of a traditional Japanese garden, possibly located in Kyoto. This image captures the serene ambiance of a meticulously designed landscape. At the heart of the scene is a sprawling tree with exposed roots that spread across a lush, moss-covered ground. The tree frames a tranquil pond, its still waters mirroring the greenery and a charming traditional wooden building on the far shore.

The building, with its dark wooden structure and gracefully sloping tiled roof, harmonizes with the surrounding nature. Meticulously maintained shrubs and trees border the pond, creating a picturesque and serene environment. A small arched bridge in the background adds an element of traditional Japanese garden design, enhancing the overall aesthetic and inviting peaceful reflection.

The garden’s design embodies the principles of simplicity and harmony with nature, elements central to Japanese aesthetics. The Rijksmuseum had more visitors than usual because high school students were making one of their outings to the museum that day.

During its extensive renovation from 2003 to 2013, Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum underwent a significant transformation of its entrance and lobby areas to enhance visitor experience and restore architectural integrity. Spanish architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz led the project, focusing on unifying the museum's layout and modernizing its facilities.

A central feature of the renovation was the creation of a spacious, light-filled atrium by excavating and connecting two previously enclosed courtyards. This new entrance hall serves as the museum's main access point, housing ticketing services, information desks, a café, and a shop, all situated below street level. The design includes a gently sloped ramp descending from the museum's historic passageway, facilitating seamless entry from both the Museumplein and Stadhouderskade sides.

The architects aimed to harmonize modern interventions with the original 19th-century design by Pierre Cuypers. Restoration efforts included reinstating original decorative elements, such as murals and terrazzo floors, and introducing contemporary features like large chandeliers that diffuse natural light throughout the space.

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a pefect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot, letter to Miss Lewis, 1st October 1841

Why not photographing this little light house becoming lost in the long range of North Sea? I like these colours harmonize with the landscape. It is always impressive how fast the weather can change. Behind me there were lots of big dark clouds. I hope you enjoy this photo. And by the way do you guys guess where this is? :)

Just a short break from my Light Painting album in progress with this shot, especially taken for the 20th Birthday of Flickr (true colors).

Shot in diffused electric lighting, still with stamen and pistil highlighted, this time with a small battery torch.

A 2" long exposure with my Canon EOS 250D to allow the blue background to be seen without any special editing, just a little crop.

The editing went later on to better render the background* on the electric blue fabric backdrop, to make it smoother and more harmonized by means of a manually painted light vignetting.

on a vibrant day at the place des lices market in saint tropez, the scene is an eclectic mix of sights and scents. an elderly man, adorned in red trousers, a shirt peppered with cherry prints, and red glasses, stands thoughtfully before a bustling rotisserie stand. the vivid red of his outfit harmonizes with the bright decor of the chicken grill, creating a striking visual contrast against the sizzling, golden chickens. this snapshot encapsulates a whimsical, yet poignant, interplay of life and culinary tradition, wrapped in the warm hues of a mediterranean afternoon.

Nestled along a quiet street in Kanazawa, this elegant ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is a stunning blend of heritage architecture and refined hospitality. The warm glow of shoji-screened windows contrasts with the modern high-rises in the background, showcasing how Japan harmonizes its past and present.

The building’s yellow-ochre plaster walls and dark wooden accents reflect a style that dates back to the Edo period, designed for both aesthetics and durability. The wide, overhanging eaves with kawara (ceramic roof tiles) help protect the structure from the region’s heavy snowfall, a feature commonly seen in Kanazawa’s historic buildings.

The large pine tree near the entrance adds a sense of serenity, embodying the Japanese philosophy of integrating nature into architecture. Beneath it, a softly illuminated wooden sign welcomes guests, setting the tone for the inn’s peaceful ambiance. The stone pathway and carefully placed garden elements reinforce the ryokan’s commitment to traditional design principles.

Ryokan like this have long been havens of hospitality, offering guests a kaiseki dining experience, tatami-matted rooms, and onsen (hot spring) baths. Walking past this illuminated retreat at night, one can’t help but feel drawn to its quiet elegance—a stark yet harmonious contrast to the bustling modern city just a few steps away.

In their quiet way...

Aboutme

Dartmoor, Devon

.

For today's image I thought I'd post one from last Autumn showing the dappled light through twisted oak trees on Dartmoor. I thought the warm dappled light harmonized with the orange and rust coloured leaf fall, and the cool rushing water complimented these tones.

Jackal, Cthulhu and Greedo got together for today’s photo. They may not hail from the Emerald Isle, but you should hear them harmonize on “Danny Boy”.

Eukalyptus is a particularly dear koala bear.

He's only recently with us and has taken our hearts by storm.

His relaxed, modest and gentle manner harmonizes beautifully with his benevolent humor.

He was found together with Luchsi DeLuxe in a remote animal rescue camp,

where the two have made a close friendship.

Here with us Eucalyptus met Prof. Rauz,

who took him under his wing immediately,

and with whom he talks for hours on all sorts of topics -

often throughout the night ...

For modesty he only wanted to show his silhouette

for this first photo;

So we can look forward to a real portrait that will surely follow soon.

Wood Thrush singing - New Jersey

There are many songs of the woodland songbirds that I love to hear each Spring but most likely the song of the Wood Thrush is the one that always brings me joy and peace while wandering around the forests of the Northern New Jersey.

Here is an interesting fact about these birds:

“During his three-part song, a male actually sings pairs of notes simultaneously, which harmonize and blend to produce ringing, ethereal tones.

The Wood Thrush's complex song begins with several low, almost inaudible notes, followed by the rising, flute-like ee-oh-lay, finishing with a complex trill. Each bird can sing unique versions of each song part, and one male can easily sing over 50 distinct songs!” - source: American Bird Conservancy

Opening in March, 1915, the Santa Fe Depot was built by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to replace the smaller, ornate, wooden D Street station built in 1887. A larger station was needed for expected visitors to the Panama-California Expositon 1915-1917. The architecture, designed by Bakewell & Brown, is Mission Revival style and was intended to harmonize with the buildings of the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park. The interior has redwood ceiling beams and colorful tile wainscoting embellished with the Santa Fe blue cross emblem. Originally there was a Fred Harvey lunch counter, but it's no longer there. After the opening there were 3 daily trains between San Diego and Los Angeles. Today the station is the 3rd busiest in California, serving Amtrak, the San Diego Coaster, the San Diego Trolley and the San Diego Metro Transit System. It is on the National Register of Historic Places #72000248.

Museum of Ethnography Budapest Hungary

Architects: NAPUR Architect

Area : 34000 m²

The new building of the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest City Park (Városliget) was opened 2022. The award-winning new museum building – which is part of Europe’s largest urban-cultural development called Liget Budapest Project has dynamic yet simple lines simultaneously harmonized with the park environment and communicating with the surrounding urban area.

The collection, which comprises 250.000 items from the Carpathian Basin and from every corner of the world, has been hosted by various facilities since its establishment in 1872, but never in its history did it operate in a building designed specifically to cater to its needs. The project was one of over 1700 entries from 115 countries. According to the decision of an international jury, the competition was won by the Hungarian architectural studio, Napur Architect (beating leading world-class architect studios such as Zaha Hadid, BIG), whose building is distinguished by a dynamic yet simple design harmonized with the natural environment of the park while communicating with the urban texture of its surroundings. The gently curving lines enable the building to function as a gateway and a passage linking the city and the park. Sixty percent of the structure is under ground level, and thanks to the landscaped roof and the transparency of the sections over the ground, the new museum is adapted to its environment in its scale too. The grass-covered roof area will be a pleasant community space awaiting visitors to Városliget.

The spectacular trademark of the building is the glass curtain wall surrounding the landscaped roof garden, reminiscent of two intertwined hillsides, with a unique characteristic, consisting of nearly half a million pixels, a raster made by metal grid based on ethnographic motifs selected from the museum's Hungarian and international collections.

The new functions and flexible spaces of the modern and state-of-the-art museum building will facilitate the understanding of the historical heritage embodied by the collection as well as the various aspects of contemporary society. Besides passing down this historical heritage, the realization of more recent professional and research themes and perspectives continues to be among the priority objectives of the museum, as confirmed by its mission. The creatively built spaces will open up new opportunities to communicate with visitors, enabling the presentation of the everyday objects, phenomena, and ideas of the past and the present side by side.

044/365 - Day 44 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today I could only spend minimal time for my Photo Challenge due to professional requirements. Therefore my dwarf-scented lilac had to be the motif today. Fortunately, we had great weather, and the sun shone with very soft light.

I concentrated on the flowers directly, which I separated from the background with a large aperture.

The soft green in the background and the pink flowers harmonize perfectly.

Also this time I refrained from using a tripod to find the best shooting angle.

Hope you like the image!

this build is literally just a test to find out if sand red and dark orange harmonize (generally a lot of color tests for my cyberpunk build lately), so don't judge it too harsh;)

I've been to Italy so I might upload a few pictures of that if you want... now I'll have a professional internship in a luxury restaurant so I won't have a lot of time to build but maybe later:)

happy easter and see you later,

Timm

Arthur Hacker (1858–1919) was one of a generation of British artists who trained in Paris. Here he developed a style that harmonized plein air realism with academic idealism. His art was also influenced by his travels in Spain and Morocco as indicated by the lighting and setting of this painting.

Now that there's the 1/35 Mini (and quite a few other vehicles built in the meantime) I thought it might be a good idea to update the scale system I'm using for vehicle builds.

The "Larger City Scale", as I call it, is an attempt to harmonize the different vehicle widths and scales used in Town/Minifig surroundings into a single system, according to the following requirements:

- It must be possible to build all sorts (quite an important point) of vehicles in a more or less realistic manner, especially regarding proportions.

- The widths used should be able to reflect the different characters of cars (it's obvious that e. g. a full-size car/landyacht must look much more massive than, say, a pony car like a Mustang).

- It should be possible to combine vehicles and figs standing next to them.

- It should be possible to use the typical vehicle stuff in minifig scale/City surrounding like mudguards, windscreens, wheels and roofparts.

- The seating of minifigs is desirable but not a strict requirement. However, it should be possible to seat the figs side by side or - if there's only room for one fig - to avoid placing it in the center of the car which I can't help looks odd.

Using a single scale throughout to fulfill these requirements proved to be quite difficult. Even if the figs are altered to a 1/40 scale (like I do with all the figs) it is a problem to build matching - and at the same time well-proportioned - cars - the more so if you want to place figs into them. Thus for passenger cars a 1/35 scale proved to be a good compromise. (It is quite interesting that there's at least one clone brick manufacturer - which I won't even name - who produces Lego compatible car models in an explicit scale of 1/35 which I regard as a confirmation of my approach nonetheless).

On larger vehicles like buses or semis a 1/40 scale is no problem, trains are a bit smaller in scale (1/43, 9w) because at 1/40 which would mean a width of 10 studs (at least regarding US style) trains become hard to handle and tend to "dwarf" even buildings. Still they look as massive as they should.

The idea of a variable scale according to the absolute size of a structure (the larger the structure the smaller the scale) is not a new idea, of course. An example is the use of 1/43 vehicles on 1/48 model train layouts (especially in the US, if I'm right). A stadium in the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg is built in a much smaller scale than its surrounding because otherwise it would take too much room on the layout - yet it's an impressive structure.

Anyhow, it should be mentioned that all this is not an exact science, all categorizations are approximative, some decisions are rather determinations - e. g. for reasons of proportions you find the Ford GT40 in the 2m (7w) class though in reality it only measures 1,78 m. As you may spot there's still a conflict between a 1/40 step van in 7w and a 1/35 Hummer in 8w - step vans should probably be 8w throughout, too (I'm actually trying this).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview of the width classes (with some further information regarding the seating of minifigs and the windscreens used; probably I'll add some info about the wheelsizes used, too).

You may spot that there's a great variety of shapes used, exploiting all the possibilities of City, Speed Champions and even Lego Movie sets. Also, you will notice some differences between this and the earlier version, inter alia the missing "+-system" regarding mudguards - it didn't prove very helpful since the mudguard parts are used for different purposes: On trucks and also on vintage cars they often belong to larger structures and should therefore count regarding width whereas on passenger cars they rather can be understood as (quite disproportionate) wheel arches which in reality are much smaller.

Rich in history and culture, Laos and its peoples, more than 47 ethnic groups, harmonize life to ancient rhythms and traditions that evoke timeless Asia. Although the trappings of the modern world are becoming increasingly visible, Laos remains the least developed country in Southeast Asia. A country where experienced travelers will appreciate breathtaking scenery and ofcourse the friendly people.

Photo of two little girls strolling arm-in-arm down the road at their hometown Kieng Than Lei. A snapshot which shows the innocence of childhood. Hopefully they always feel the lasting love of friendship. This little village is located on the Bolaven Plateau and is a great place to explore some of the lesser-known areas of the southern region of Laos. These sweet girls were so happy that I took a photo of them ;-)

Purmamarca is a large village where small adobe houses and wood cactus harmonize with the landscape and the quebrada, including "the mountain of seven colors" (el Cerro Siete Colores los).

“Handle colors and lines, is the real diplomacy, isn’t it? Because the real difficulty is exactly to harmonize all this stuff.”

Of all the places we've visited, Laos probably wins the award for Friendliest Country. Despite Laos poverty and isolation, its people were some of the kindest and most outgoing we've ever met. We were on our way to Salavan also Saravane which means one million days. A number of kids played along the road and greeted us. We enjoyed the natural surroundings exploring by local bus. Salavan spreads over a beautiful forest in the Bolaven Plateau. At this elevated area you can soak up the fresh climate and the friendly atmosphere. Bolaven Plateau greatly suffered during the Vietnam War. The Bolaven Plateau was one of the most heavily bombed theatres of the Second Indochina War. Laos has remained virtually unchanged for half a century. Rich in history and culture, Laos and its peoples, more than 47 ethnic groups, harmonize life to ancient rhythms and traditions that evoke timeless Asia. Although the trappings of the modern world are becoming increasingly visible, Laos remains the least developed country in Southeast Asia. A country where experienced travelers will appreciate breathtaking scenery and ofcourse the friendly people.

From the little village Kieng Than Lei at Tadlo waterfalls we took a bus trip to Salavan. The scenery was very good, the plateau is crossed by several rivers and has many scenic waterfalls. The scenery got even better the further East we went, rolling high hills and scattered farms and villages. Salavan province is home to the Phu Xieng Thong National Biodiversity Conservation Area, covering nearly 1,000 sq km in the western part of the province next to the Mekong river. It is thought that asiatic black bear, banteng, clouded leopard, Douc langur, elephant, gibbon, guar, Siamese crocodile and tiger and inhabit this area. This snapshot was taken from our bus window on our way to the capitol of Salavan province. A sincere smile I won't forget. A great place to explore some of the lesser-known areas of the southern region of Laos. A province to meet the friendly Lao people despite their poverty and isolation.

Nicolas Boulerice holds the hurdy-gurdy and Olivier Demers holds the fiddle while these Le Vent du Nord musicians stop to harmonize vocally. Gotta love the red smoke although I like the b&w version too — just not as much in this case.
