Damn! Forgot the eggs!

This is a detail of a first edition lino block print of two zebras. The one on the left is known as Grevy's zebra and the one on the right is known as Burchell's. These are carved on a single block, and printed in black water-based ink on Japanese kozo, or mulberry paper. The sheets are 14 inches wide and 8 inches tall (35.6 cm by 20.3 cm).

The Grevy's Zebras were having a fun time chasing each other; as if they were playing tag. They would roll in the dirt and make up. These boys were having fun summer day. These photos were taken of the Grevy's Zebras at the San Diego Zoo on a sunny June day.

Scientific Name: Equus

Location: Los Angeles Zoo

The stripe pattern of a zebra is as distinctive as human fingerprints. It is also the most important adaptation for its survival, as movements of stripes within the herd are very confusing to a predator. (lazoo.org/animals/mammals/grevyszebra/)

Grevy's Zebras are the largest of the three zebra species. They can also be identified by a large patch of white found on either side of its tail. There are fewer than 3,000 Grevy's Zebras remaining in the wild.
